when an apostate(a) and jw having a conversation.. a : in genesis 1:26 with who was god speaking to ?

gen 1:26 and god went on to say: let us make man in our image, according to our likeness, and let them have in subjection the fish of the sea and the flying creatures of the heavens and the domestic animals and all the earth and every moving animal that is moving upon the earth.

Re: "immortality"

The Watchtower goes by their interpretation of the Bible's use of the terms, not the dictionary's. Adam and Eve, angels, and resurrected humans all were/are/will be, so they say, deathless, but not immortal. Only Jehovah, Jesus and the 144,000 will ever be immortal. To be "incorruptible" means more than deathlessness, it means "cannot be destroyed." This is a subtle doctrine kind of just taken for granted these days, but back when Russell and the Rutherford made such a big deal out of disproving the immortal soul doctrine, they'd spend entire chapters explaining this stuff. Now you're lucky to find a couple of paragraphs, besides the quote someone was nice enough to dig out of the Insight volume, in the last 40 years of books and magazines that does more than tough on the subject.

when i left the witnesses, i picked up a bunch of christian books on what the bible says.

isn't it weird that you have to have so many books, just to tell you what another book is saying?

anyway, i went through this phase where i still wanted to argue scripture with people.

Oh, I did the same thing. One fateful day I spent a good 300 dollars on books at an xian bookstore. I wanted to learn what evangelicals taught, what christadelphians taught, what everyone taught, and why. All these different ideas, based on the biblia. I'm not nearly that hardcore any longer but it still resurfaces from time to time. Bible study was my heritage when growing up. I guess I'll always have an interest in it. Now I'm going back to my hockey game on TV.

The few JWs I know hardly represent the infantile, murderous god they think they 'render sacred service' to. That's likely because I don't know very many anymore and the ones I do are watchtower-rule-breakers. But there's no question that some JWs whom I have had acqaintance with are incessant naggers and needlers. In other words, they seem so spiritually bankrupt they project their most loathsome feelings onto others, and sometimes go so far as to feel valiant and righteous by mistreating people and allowing their self-hatred manifest itself, "to their own destruction." I like to think of Christians (and JWs) as individuals involved in a false religion (as if any religion was true, besides the religion of self, i.e. What's the most important thing in life? Answer: Necessity. Any given human will do whatever he or she deems necessary at any given moment in time).

In my experience, and from what I've noticed since I awoke from my Bible/JW-induced mental slumber, good people are good people in spite of their religion, not because of it. Contrary to that, a greater percentage of bad people are bad people and do bad, even wicked, things, because of their religion (e.g. murder, shunning, theft of a person's most valuable property and asset - his mind).

one good thing with the latter: they are usually much shorter.. so we often discuss how the logos was or wasn't "god/god/divine" etc.

Well, MASH, I don't believe the Bible is the word of God, but sometimes I find it irresistable to talk about. Sometimes I (and others!) wish I'd shut up about it, but for some stupid reason I still have a desire to share my opinion on certain biblical topics and enjoy hearing others' opinons. The great thing about the internet is, I can always take a step back and leave it alone whenever I want, which isn't the case when you're a JW. Especially so tonight. I'm only posting this now because it's in-between periods of the hockey game I'm watching. If I was still a JW and the service/TMS meeting was tonight, I'd be stuck there.

I don't think the biblical record anywhere suggests the logos was created by God; rather it was always some part of him.

It is interesting that the John 1:14 doesn't say theos was made flesh, or the Son was made flesh, but logos was made flesh. A strong case for preexistence (eternal or created) could have been made here, but wasn't.

edited to add: I like "came to be through" better than "by" as well. The "he/him" trips me up though. I sure like "it" as the pronoun instead.

lately,i haven't been as concerned with my jw past.it will always affect me,and this website has changed my life,for the better.i guess i know that thetre will always be people that will believe in religious bullcrap.thats thier problem.i am proud that i didn't drink the kool-aid{i say to people now"don't drink the kool-aid"}i have not posted as much lately,and feel less concerned about the whole situation,which is a good thing.. .

as card-carrying apostates we all need to be careful about our information.

even one mistake, whether intentional or not, gives dubs the chance to jump up and say, "see those apostates lied about that thing.

my folks have had one lying round for years so now that im more mature and older i have taken and using a program to put it on the computer.

i have spent all day on it and prob no where near finished.

i have so much more research to do it.

Hey, I live in Buffalo and I think Arnold was a fine chap.

A couple of decades ago before the Mormons got on the internet and developed their ancestry history thingamajigger, my aunt traced our family back to Richard the Lionheart. I proudly display my family's British crest.....um... somewhere around here.
