Oh Marvin, that is a heartbreaking story. and sadly, so typical of these bulldog puppies. kudos for the elderly guy who stood up for himself.

What is the most out of line / disturbing experience you have seen from Circuit Overseers?
by Poindexter Lionel Humperdique ini once heard of a circuit overseer blaming a loyal ministerial servant, that served as the accounts servant, of steeling from the contribution boxes, simply because he deposited the congregation funds bi-weekly instead of twice a week.
due to the accusation, the ms was immediately removed without hearing his side of the story.
isn't this rather counter-intuitive and innefficient?

1st: MIddle aged CO obsessed with demons and teenage sex. He would hound small groups of teens after the meetings to talk about masturbation and why shy girls get pregnant first.
second: parasitic CO who would blast my family from the platform for materialism, but gladly accept the privacy of a cottage provided by my father for his visits, we would then get bills for hundreds of dollars from international telephone calls made by his wife to her family...
...same guy, in my house, within yards of my hearing (I was 14 yo), on the phone with elders from another congo, yelling out loud how they had to "kick out" this "leech" who was "poisoning the congregation". I went to school with "the leech's" daughter, so I knew all about the witch hunt that was going on.

11 years ago in February. I had been DF the year prior and was planning to leave the country once reinstated. They did not want to reinstate me. But I had done my effort and my father supported my career move. The hall had a long hallway to the street. It is one of the unforgettable moments of my life, running towards the street through that hall, knowing that I would never have to step on it again.
Then I met my husband and he set me mentally free. I attended meetings after that (I got reinstated after several years, so I could see my parents again) but I was free. Those don't count.

Some fairly alarming medical news in Discovery magazine - Nov. 2010 issue:
by james_woods inexpose article on dangers and misrepresentations of a number of new drugs - some points made:.
1) - according to an agency for healthcare research and quality report in 2001, more than 770,000 americans die each year from drug complications.. 2) - care patients don't need of failing to give care that is necessary accounts for an estimated 30% of the annual health care budget - more than 2.4 trillion dollars per year.. 3) - avandia, the diabetes drug made by glaxosmithkline was subject to 42 studies and a 2007 report by dr. steven nissen which showed it plainly increased chances of heart attack and death.
the u.s. senate committee on finance says the company knew about the cardiac side effects for several years before this report was published.. 4) - in 2002 jama published results of a huge study, called the antihypertensive and lipid-lowering treatment to prevent heart attack, or allhat, which showed that inexpensive generic drugs such as diuretics were just as effective as name brand drugs for controlling blood pressure.

Drug reps were not allowed in the organization where I trained, nor are they allowed where I currently work. I prefer to prescribe old drugs, not only because they are in the Walmart $4 list, but they are really well known and I have experience with them. I believe that not dealing with reps is becoming a trend in all big health care systems because of the stringent regulations they are subjected to.

When the same thing (minus the fatalities) happened in my country 30 years ago, they blamed it on kids on the bus playing with smurf stickers

Did you have to try another church or religion on your way to unbelief?
by donny inback in 1992 when i was slowly extricating my way out of the wacthtower, there was no internet, smart phones or any other type of quick data download available.
i had basically 3 choices to obtain viewpoints from ex-jw's.. #1 - go to go to the library and look for books critical of the society.
#2 - go to a christian book store to look for the same.. #3 - order item like these from addresses or phone numbers listed in the back of these publications.. and while doing any of these things, you were always looking over your shoulder to see if any "brothers" were around.. the problem i experienced is that virtually all of these books, while giving you good reason to doubt the watchtower, always pointed to "christendom" as the way you needed to go.

Yeah, I did. I tried hard to go back into believing in an invisible sky daddy, this time of the good kind. The Presbyterian services I attended felt cagey and boring like the KH. And I just didn't swallow it. And then I bumped into the "God Delusion" and it made so much sense...

So Emilie does not fit in a stereotype conceived by a person who stereotypically does not want to understand different cultures. How very unsettling and threatening.
