  Does our language betray us?

  has anyone else noticed how you can tell who is new or fading, who was a long timer, who was never really into it, etc just from the way posts and language are structured?

  i think it struck me when i heard someone say they did their utmost to leave the organization..do your utmost..not a common expression in most people's worlds so it still twigged a jw connection.

  reading steve hassan's book on mind control reminded me of just how important language is in cult group membership.

  I think my writing in high school sounded JW .. It scares me to know what my teachers thought.

  One remarkable feature in French JW speak is the high rate of anglicisms (due to the overuse of "calques" in the translation of old WT literature, which has informed the local JW jargon beyond repair) among people who never learnt English.

  That's really cool to me too. I wanna know more :)

  My speech has definately changed now. I always hated how they would say "obviously then" only to come to a rediculous conclusion.

  I just want them all to come out .... So many have lost loved ones to this cult.

  I hate the organization ... But I haven't stopped loving the ones inside, wishing they too could receive salvation.

  I talked to the WT Convention PR guy today

  i saw the google link for the assembly in charleston,wv this weekend.

  the newspaper printed a press release about the assembly and there was an invite to the general public to attend the convention.

  at the end of the story was a telephone number to call- so i did!.

  What Stage Are You At Now?

  i was born in the "truth" and reached the dizzy heights of becoming a servant and that attended the ministerial school.

  in the last three years i emotionallly left the "truth" and stopped attending last year.

  however, i am still very confused theologically.

  I'm a member of a Baptist church but I tend to believe more like a Presbyterian. I think I'm still in that stage where I'm trying to decide just where exactly I want to be. I'm Christian though no matter what chuch I end up going to.

  I brought in my ex husband but he is not active any more. It is just a shame though that because of JWs he does not feel capable of living up to being a christian. I always found it odd when I was still in that he was so active in his church before and why he couldn't be active with the JWs. Now I can understand.
