I'm a year round (3 or 4 times a week) runner. I've done one marathon, a few 8 Ks, and half a dozen or so ten milers. Great stress relief.

SixOfNine, I know the feeling, when a song really hits home. Sometimes I think the whole album "Takin' It To The Streets" was a personal messege to me ( to leave the JWs and hit the streets, as it were). Some of Neil Young's music connects with me like that, as well.

About 30 years ago there was an elder (now dead) in our congreation who was offering the prayer at a circuit assembly. It was after the song just prior to the introduction to the featured public speaker. He was supposed to do the prayer, then introduce the speaker. But towards the end of the prayer he just started into the introduction, as if he were praying the introduction. At the end, instead of saying "amen," he said something like, "and now let's give a warm welcome and our undivided attention to Brother So-and-so." The whole place was like WTF?
We later found out that he had a long time drinking problem, but was able to hide it somehow. You never smelled alcohol on him, so whenever he did or said something weird, everybody just assumed it was because of his age. A very sad case. Spent his whole adult life a JW, only to be DF'd for alcoholism in his mid 70s. He got back in before he died, but all I can think is, what a waste. The other brothers weren't very kind to him or sympathetic to his problem

Speaking to an Elder tomarrow, I'm almost free!!!!!!!
by drew sagan inmajor developments in my world, just wanted to let you all know about it.
i'm meeting with the elder tomarrow afternoon.
i'm going to stick heavy to the watchtowers interpretation of matthew 24 and how it is unbalanced, sensationalized and out of touch with any historical evidence or respect for the bible.

Hey SixOfNine, maybe you should credit Jackson Browne for those lyrics. That is, unless you ARE Jackson Browne.

Hi Drew,
I was raised in the so-called Truth, but thankfully avoided baptism, etc. Something in my gut always kept me from making that final step. Anyway, good luck to you. I admire anyone that has the courage to stand up for what they think is right. It's the best example a person can set. My best to you and yours.

What are your reasons for not joining another religion?
by MARTINLEYSHON ini am going to start this debate of by saying that those of us who were raised in the so called truth, and i being one of them, can only come to terms with our past by accepting that our parents infected our minds like a virus infects a computer.
we wouldn't categorise children according to their parents' political stance, since they are too young to make up their minds about such matters.
but they (jw) segregate them from the world.

Because in the end all religions are based on FAITH -- an absurd concept.

This is the question I will ask any JW that crosses my path (Note: I've been living in the same house for eight years and no JW has showed up on my doorstep. And it's a middle-class, safe neighborhood. And there's a Kingdom Hall less than five miles away):
My question: Is the WTS inspired/directed by God, the only channel by which God deals with mankind?
If they answer YES, then my comeback is, "So why have there been so many failed predictions/flip-flops in teachings in the past? Certainly, divine inspiration would not have allowed this."
If they answer NO, then my comeback is, "So why on earth would you follow and support an organization that has been wrong in each and every past prediction and continously flip-flops on various teachings?"
I asked my JW brother (and I mean my actual blood brother) the above question a few years ago, and he quickly changed the subject.
