Right To Die?
by hamilcarr inor a government ban on assisted suicide?.
assisted suicide of healthy 79-year-old renews german debate on right to die.
roland magunia/agence france-presse getty imagesby mark landlerpublished: july 3, 2008frankfurt when roger kusch helped bettina schardt kill herself at home on saturday, the grim, carefully choreographed ritual was like that in many cases of assisted suicide, with one exception.. ms. schardt, 79, a retired x-ray technician from the bavarian city of wurzburg, was neither sick nor dying.

Her last words, after swallowing a deadly cocktail of the antimalaria drug chloroquine and the sedative diazepam, were “auf Wiedersehen,” Mr. Kusch recounted at a news conference on Monday.
[...]
In Ms. Schardt’s case, he counseled her about how to commit suicide, but did not provide or administer the drugs. He left the room after she drank the poisonous brew and returned three hours later to find her dead on her bed. He videotaped the entire process as proof that he was not an active participant. So, was she able to get the two drugs mentioned without a prescription? It's hard to know where the line is on what constitutes "assisted". If I publish on a website a failproof suicide cocktail comprised of easily available ingredients, am I assisting suicide? (btw, if anybody knows of any such websites that they'd like to point me to, PM me!)

That is an excellent letter, well done.
While they had their reasons for staying away, they loved to be able to say, “But I still believe it’s The Truth!”
I have a coworker that is much the same as your friend - not active at all in the faith, but is still very sentimental about JWism and is intolerant of criticism. I think what it comes down to is the same fears that active JW's have when it comes to apostates - fear that all these absolutes that they've accepted aren't true and that there really aren't any sure things in life.

What CHARLES MANSON and FRED FRANZ have in common...
by Terry incharles manson and fred franz had something in common.
both believed the end of the world was coming.
franz believed it would start by the governments destroying religion.

Ol' Fred was an odd bird, but was he that far gone?
Have you read the Revelation Climax book lately? ;) A man who sees in the convention of an obscure Adventist offshoot held in Cedar Point Ohio nothing less than the fulfillment of Gawd-inspired Bible prophecy is "that far gone" and then some. lol

Ugh, that email was so condescending. The CrackTower's stock-and-trade since the days of Joey Rutherford has been to continually and loudly denigrate every other religion on the earth as being of Satan. "Upbuilding" my arse.

The Long Road To Forgiveness
by BurnTheShips inso many of us have suffered so much here in our experience with the watchtower cult and at the hands of others.
this afternoon's segment of npr's this i believe reminds us of the liberating power of forgiveness.
i heard it on the drive home and wanted to share it here with you.

Rapunzel I usually enjoy your input on this board (you're one of the many people here who I feel very uneducated and inarticulate in comparison to) but in response to your posts on this thread, it seems to me that the tendency to proselytize is an inextricable aspect of virtually all religions, whether it's Buddhism, whose many current practitioners are all the progeny of ancestors who converted to the faith from something else, or Christianity of course, certainly one of the more aggressively convert-seeking religious groups in history.
While I'm no Christian apologist, the idea of Christians calming the f down and realizing that theirs isn't the only way to salvation is to make a it into a simple moral philosophy whose adherents (if you would even call them that) don't believe that their beliefs are of any ultimate consequence. I guess what I'm saying is is that the belief that one's beliefs do have ultimate consequences is what makes religion, religion. You can't have one without the other.

The 2001 drama (the last one I attended) was so so so bad...and it sounds like they're only getting worse. I can only imagine the puke-worthy dialogue between the characters...I haven't the stomach to watch it on Youtube.

well even on post it's still expensive.

I've become very conscious of how much I drive, and this has led to my consolidating some trips and avoiding others altogether. I used to hop in my car and drive distances of 15-20 miles without a second thought, just to do a little shopping or whatever but now such trips are very rare. I also have been employing some hypermiling techniques such as filling the tank in the morning (cold gasoline is more dense so you get a little more for your money) and immediately letting off the gas completely if there is a red light ahead. It's funny how people race to get to a red light.
I am still spending a lot on food since I don't cook and cooking for one person is next to impossible anyways, d'oh. -

What about those little microscopic bugs that live in our pores and stuff...will we not bathe, in order that none of them get washed down the drain and die by drowning or for lack of sustenance?
