Annoying trend in TV commercials...
by Gregor inhave you noticed how it seems that the tactic of making commercials deliberately annoying is becoming popular?
i'm sure you can think of a commercial or two that quickly becomes like fingernails on a chalkboard.
that is why they are produced and repeated over and over, they accomplish the purpose of getting your attention and causing you to remember them.

What I can't stand are the commercials for the online dating sites, where they show these couples that are sooooo in love. Gag. That and the ones for prescription drugs. I think that all of the Rx commercials are done by the same director and production company. They all have the same feel. And all those stupid disclaimers. Don't take it if you've ever had liver problems, are nursing, pregnant or could become pregnant, on and on.
I love funny commercials. There's a couple of new Geico caveman ads out that are a scream. And the Sonic commercials with the two guys or the married couple, god those are so funny. -

One thing that I never understood about evolution (and hence was completely bamboozled by the WTS "Creation" book) was that the proof for it doesn't consist of wide, overarching, irrefutable logical statements like you might find in mathematics or other areas of study. Rather, the proof lies in incredibly numerous, very fine-grained individual observations and evidences that have accumulated and taken together paint a picture that is unmistakable.
That again and again we see on this board questions such as, 'well if evolution is true then why don't monkeys talk?' and the like demonstrates the incredibly shallow consideration that evolution (and science in general) is given in our schools here in America. The finer details of evolution are never considered. What we're taught amounts to little more than 'there's fossil evidence and stuff that shows that it's true'.
Slappy, I'd suggest you take the advice given to you here and really dig into some of the finer-grained evidences that support the theory of evolution. Nobody here or anywhere is going to be able to prove evolution to you in a few short paragraphs because evolution isn't math. The proof is in the evidence, and the evidence is so abundant and so finely detailed that you really do have to spend many hours of your own time investigating. The '29 Evidences' section of the Talk Origins website is one place you may want to check out.

The change in tone from the body of that letter to the closing is hilarious.

Mankind's Great Diaspora
by hamilcarr inthe incredible journey taken by our genesproject maps humanity's voyage out of africa to new continents and domination of the worldrobin mckie, science editor the observer, sunday august 31 2008 .
sixty thousand years ago, a small group of african men and women took to the red sea in tiny boats and crossed the mandab strait to asia.
their journey - of less than 20 miles - marked the moment homo sapiens left its home continent.. the motive for our ancestors' african exodus is not known, though scientists suspect food shortages, triggered by climate change, were involved.

Could you provide the link? At the risk of sounding uptight here, I don't think it's fair to copy and paste full articles from websites whose existence depends on advertising revenues.

The Buckeyes! YEAH!
The USC game should be interesting. Pete Carroll was one of the few people who accurately predicted the outcome of the '07 National Championship game between Florida and OSU, and I think he (like so many others) views Ohio State and Big Ten football as antiquated. He could be right, although I think there were other factors in the past two National Championship games besides a talent or coaching disparity that caused the Buckeyes look way worse than they really were. The USC game is a shot at redemption, I hope they can pull it off. -

DA'd March '02. Glad I got out before they merged the DF/DA announcement into its current form. I haven't seen any of my former JW acquaintances in years. The last time it happened, I was walking into a local eatery as a few of them were coming out. Their faces clouded over like a storm on the high seas at the sight of me. It kinda freaked me out as it's one of the only times I've experienced a hard shun like that.

How to Debate an Evolutionist (if you must)
by hooberus inthis thread is primarily directed to biblical creationists and other non-evolutionists here (as such no or limited responses will be given to evolutionist posts here).
please if you are a non-evolutionist attempt to refrain from debating evolutionists here on this thread, as they will likely try to derail any learning, or exposure of their tactics.
i will try to avoid debating here but instead posting information in a series of posts.. i consider myself to be an informed biblical creationist and probably one of more experienced creation/evolution issue debaters to have been on this forum.

Evolution is a mean master.
Well said. People want to believe that the universe is, ultimately, a friendly place, that there's some consciousness "out there" that made our existence possible and for some purpose. It's not, there isn't, and the evidence for evolution and by extension the knowledge that it imparts to us of the millions of years of vicious struggle and slaughter that made our existence possible is too gut-wrenching to contemplate. But it's true.

Love that intro...did any of those people actually do anything that made them deserve to be shot down in the street like that? And then, cue the sunny heroic music..."The Rifleman!"
