  Some tragic characters of the rock/pop world seem to get more attention than their talent asks for. Many often become more famous dead than when they were alive. This partly happened whilst Syd was a walking zombie and he became an inadvertent rider of latter Floyd fame (Shine On etc) but if Floyd had 'bombed' after he left rather than becoming musical behemoths, i think he would have disappeared into obscurity decades ago.

  Just watch the cd re-issues, compilations and tribute albums come flooding into the shops in a week or two.

  Parents Just Don't Understand!

  ok, so i got in a fight with my brother today.

  i was so upset.

  well my mom called and while i was upset i blurted out a comment on how easy it is for people in our family to cut people off.

  Hi Sparkplug

  I'm a parent of 3 lads ( 14,16,18 ) and the trick for parents to understand or get right, is the time when we start respecting our kids and talking to them like they're adults. This is for me the crux of the matter. We also sometimes think that WE always know what's best for them and while this is often true, it's not always the case. Some parents are pig-headed and blinkered and this is reeeeaally hard for a young person to take....and rightly so. We can't chose our parents and neither can we chose our kids.

  What JWs preach holds no interest for me whatsoever, too many bad experiences with that messed up org. There are however, some useful guidelines in the bible. JWs have 'lost the plot'!

  many people ask why doesn't god interefere to help suffering mankind?

  biblically the answer is very simple: mankind exercise their freedom of choice and in so doing chose to be slaves to sin or the demons if you like.

  Preaching to Children?

  today my daughter and her class went on a field trip which was a walking tour through boston.

  her class is made up of 12 and 13 year olds.

  while they were on the walk - a man approached my daughter with a small pamphlet.

  Not swearing is proof of the "truth"

  this was a said by my jw relative to my never-been-jw husband this weekend, during a conversation about the prevalence of swearing.. "my friend maria's husband [was unbelieving mate, now a witness] always swore like a sailor.

  he said he could see jehovah's witnesses had the truth because they didn't use bad language.".

  for all the reasons for believing jw's have the truth, this was a new one to me..

  Bollocks!! Which by the way is NOT swearing, but an old English word meaning 'nonsense'.

  We all swear, to a greater or lesser degree and i've heard many, MANY JW's swear quite fruitily.

  one of the worst things that a lot of people are scared of, is terrorism.

  its an invisible enemy, to be honest i've stopped watching the news since it just got me down.. at a convention at the manchester evening news arena (used to be nynex arena) in manchester, there was a briefcase found.

  no one claimed it and in the end it was thought to be a possible bomb.

  I remember it well! About 1996-97? I can recall thinking that bro' was a TOTAL jerk because it was announced from the convention platform for the owner of the missing briefcase to come and collect it so as to prevent a bomb scare, but the prat didn't. Apparently when the bomb squad blew it up after evacuating us all, there was an explosion of bible pages all over the place. Some people eh?
