Odrade, I appreciate how you turned them around into positive ideals! Unfortunately, some of our parents just aren't "thinking persons" — yet.
Puck said: my mom isn't just brainwashed, she's gotten the bleach and softener in there, too.
LOL! Add cobwebs to that recipe for my spiritually weak (tm) mom. I often have to explain current doctrines to her, as they've changed so much over the years.
When I pointed out some outright lies and omissions in Kingdom Proclaimers, she proclaimed, "Well, you should stop reading those apostate books!"
Uh, yeah. Whatever.
We should just be glad our moms still contact us, and try to show they care for us, in their own weird WT way.

The Church Of Toast
by Madame Quixote inokay, someone just gave me a fun idea.
who wants to role play?
i want to be god for the church of toast, but we can vote on it; however, all true believers know that they have free will to believe in me, or else "they're toast.

Question: Will the Other Eaters of the Margarine class who are resurrected to Peperidge Farm get to keep their crusts, or will they go crustless?

Do you have a personal hero?
by zagor ini was just doing my page on myspace and this question really stuck with me.
i dont know if something is wrong with me or what, but if i have to answer this question truthfully i have to say i dont have one.
i like to learn about many different people and their achievements but in reality i just like being myself and not try to emulate someone else.

Please say hello to my wife.
by nicolaou ini've been posting here for quite a long time, so long in fact that it just doesn't feel right that my wife isn't a part of it.
earlier today i created an account for her with the username heron, she'll know why.
i'm not sure if my wife will ever post here but i would feel much more comfortable knowing she is aware that i do.. this is the one post i am going to ask her to read.. so, i'd really appreciate it if you could say hello to my lovely wife.

Hello and welcome, Heron.
We have a resident blue heron who eats fish out of the pond like it's popcorn. So slender and graceful and peaceful.
We feel blessed to have such a beautiful creature live with us.
Maybe that's why Nic picked the name?

Don't know if this is helpful, but may be worth a try...
I kept getting the example at Matthew 13:24-30. The weeds will be allowed to grow amongst the wheat for awhile, yes.
Yet if Jesus' Kingdom was established back in 1918, wouldn't he have tore out the wheat AT THAT TIME?
When he entered the temple (a foreshadowing) and saw the moneychangers, he dealt with them immediately, on the spot.
He did not sit around complacently almost a hundred years waiting for people to figure out they were getting ripped off.
Also, if his kingdom is to REPLACE Satan's wicked system, how come we are obviously still in Satan's system? This 1918 established Kingdom is less effective for 6 million JWs today, than for the handful of faithful Jewish worshippers at the temple 2,000 years ago.
For this and similar reasons, I rejected the 1918 approval. And the GB, too.

Did anyone work for the TV/Newspaper while a JW?
by Junction-Guy inand if so were you instrumental in keeping negative jw publicity from reaching the public?
did you find yourself editing out comments that werent favorable to the jw's?-----im wondering if the majority of newspapers and tv stations dont have at least one jw on their editorial staff who helps protect things for the wt.
-

Yes, I did. And no, no editorial staff I've known would allow a JW to favor or protect the WT. They're just not that important. IMO, it's general religious tolerance in this country that prevents the media from negative publicity of the Witnesses. They don't want to seem harsh or critical of anyone's faith. (No one wants a lawsuit, either.)
JWs would have major conscience issues anyway. How would they handle holiday ads, for one thing? Or political reporting? Or a piece on gay marriage?
Other problems are the long, round-the-clock hours and tight deadlines. "Excuse me, I must leave for my meeting now," does not cut it. News happens 24/7. Deadlines won't get pushed ahead because you had to get your hours in for field service, or attend a 3-day convention.
I have about 18 years experience in publishing and advertising as a graphic designer, editorial assistant, and production manager. Have yet to meet even one JW.
Many left-wing commie editors, but no JWs! :–)

Once I learned the truth behind "the Truth," I concluded it was all a bad dream, a daze. Now I have an improved outlook, and am confident for better days ahead.
The avatar is from the 25th anniversary of an autumn picnic called "Proud to be Alive Day."
So, I'm Proud to be Alive, and hoping for Better Days.

I guess because we arent like them
by IP_SEC inyesterday i was working outside a convenience store.
a black woman and her little boy pulled up to get gas and were asked to use a credit card or prepay.
this is common to everyone around here.
-
betterdaze
IP_SEC, maybe they really were treated rudely inside the store. You really can't know. I, for one, vote with my wallet and will not patronize a business that treats any people rudely.
Look at the bright side, that little boy is being taught valuable self respect. As a JW, I was taught: Always turn the other cheek, let people sh*t all over you, Jehovah is watching and He will repay. Just keep putting up with one another, forgive 70 times 7, blah blah blah.
It made me into a veritable doormat. It's taken years, but I'm finally getting in touch with my "inner b*tch."
I once saw a Middle-Eastern couple get turned away from a hair salon. The stylist whispered to me, "We don't serve those people here (wink, wink)."
I waited 'til my haircut was finished, paid, and said "Here's you're tip: Turning away any business is bad business. You could have gotten 10 new customers through that one Muslim lady. Now, you'll never see me or anyone I know, ever again."
BTW, their waiting area always had up-to-date Watchtowers.

That the Governing Body, a bunch of false prophets, are Jehovah's "mouthpiece" here on earth when the bible clearly states that Jesus is His Word.
Oh yeah, and that Jesus is mediator *only* for them. The other alleged 8K anointed don't even figure.
