all - of course i'm new to this board (or any board) and have an 'issue'.
my father and step-mother are both jw's and i know i can't argue with them.
however they're important to me and yet after a visit, i feel as if they are chipping away at my own spirit.
My family tried to study with my kids every time they went to visit to where my kids just didn't want to go anymore. They always come home confused or upset. I had to console my kids that they were not going to be destroyed or miss out on the paradise because we believe different from them.
I had to set my foot down with my paernts and family that religion is a personal matter that belongs only in my household. That is a subject not to be discussed with me or my kids.
i have read many stories here about those who have been disfellowshiped.
they express the pain of the experience, and the emotional trauma they experience.
i have to ask a question.
I was not shocked. I expected it. On my first elders meeting I told them to cut to the chase that I know I am going to be disfellowshipped and lets get it over with. They said "You don't know that! You have to wait and see what We decide." That's what pissed me off. They held it over my head and delayed the obvious.
I am not sad about being disfellowshipped. They did me a big favor. My life is good now.
only a southerner knows the difference between a 'hissie fit' and a 'conniption', and that you don't "have" them, you "pitch" them.
only a southerner knows how many fish, collard greens, turnip greens, peas, beans, etc.
make up a 'mess'.
Hominy grits were the best. Beans and cornbread. white gravy made with the grease from frying chicken. bacon grease was for everything. My granny made biscuits from memory but could not write the recipe (they were sooo good) so went her tea cake recipe to the grave with her. I have tried and tried to match her recipes but they never have come out the same. Homemade ice cream.MMMmmmm

When my boyfriend and I were first dating, he would say to me "Girl you are so good I could sop your up with a biscuit" hee hee
i know some have posted similar topics like this, but i thought it might be kind of fun (for the new ones that are coming here in droves) and others, to give some examples of catch phrases etc, that are unique to the jw world.
here's a few to start:.... "muster up boldness", "sound down into our hearts","satan's crafty acts", "paradisaic", "young ones"," discernment".....these are just a few of the more irritating.

I was always scolded for calling my "worldy" friends "friends"....." The only true friends are your Brothers and Sisters. Those that are not Jehovah's people are just associates"

you all know i just lost my first baby through miscarriage and that my mum was supportive through out the whole ordeal... well it didn't last.
she called me last night and informed me that there had been a committee meeting held and that the elders had decided due to the circumstances that they would disfellowship me.
Due to my boyfriend paying child support I can't marry him legally or else my tax return would go to paying his child support.
We are committed to each other mind body and soul. We just call it a marriage without the reciept.
i'm curious as to whether the majority of the board's disfellowshipped.
and i'm curious as to whether or not push came to shove, that you would not be overly distressed if you did wind up getting df'd........as time goes on, i am caring less.

what did you do with all your old books and magazines from the watchtower?
did you throw all of them away, or did you keep a few?.
i still kept a few bibles and a couple of books.
I have thrown away the majority of it, but kept the bibles and a few books just for show.
how do you feel, now that you are out of the jw's?.
does the watchtower society want to make it feel worse than it actually is?
would you say that the scare of being df'd was worse than the real thing?.
on the first elders meeting I told them to go ahead and disfellowship me(being an elders daughter i knew it was coming) but of course they said they had to decide amongst themselves...and the outcome was i was disfellowshipped. I think that is what pissed me off is that they held that over me, you know, prolonging the inevitable.
but that is the biggest favor they ever did (disfellowshipping me). I never really ever got encouragement or upbuilding in my whole life of being a JW. I was depressed, fearful of life and people, and suicidal. Now i am so happy. I enjoy lie. And have plenty of friends.
My entire family is still in. Some shun me some don't. That doesn't bother me anymore. I am free.

i cannot believe how bizarre mr. jackson is.... and it has given me the willies.
After we were thru watching the shows we came to the conclusion that if anyone of us regular po' folks admitted to half the stuff he said he did, we would be committed to an institution or jailed. But since he has so much fame and money. He is just considered eccentric.
