  Hypocrisy

  wondering everyone's best hypocrisy stories.. one of many for me is an elder who told me he doesn't think gambling is wrong and smoking the "odd" cigar is fine.

  Nothing real exciting, as this is conservative Iowa...

  PO's wife argued with the cable company about the porn movie on her bill, saying there was NO WAY it was correct. Yeah uh huh... you have what, THREE chances to click out of one of those on PPV, right? (I wouldn't know. ) The PO is a creep -- got some issues with sex, that is obvious from his goofy comments from the speaker stand ("Esther was probably a good-lookin woman" re: swimwear- "leave nothing to the imagination" and a plethora of other squicky, inappropriate comments in his talks)

  Siblings in the KH -- one DA'd a few years ago. Decided to come back (stupid girl) and sat with her parents as she was returning. Her brother was DF a couple years after. He was NOT allowed to sit with his parents as it would "stumble" some. Whatever.

  my last appeal hearing is tonight.

  i plan on continuing the good christian with a few questions act.

  after they reach their decision whatever it is i will pull out my camera and tell them that this whole procedure has been recorded.. 1. do you think i will get df'ed tonight?

  Well SoL, whatever happens, I'll be thinking of ya. You done good with all of this. I know how it feels to want to make them up and NOTICE. BTD(oing)T.

  Yep, I'm guessing they'll prolly DF ya, if for nothing else, out of pure frustration at you. LOL You have quite crawled up their asses and I don't think they like how it feels.

  As for what to say -- there really isn't much left! The only thing that I would do (if it was me) would be to shush them right before they give you their decision, snap their pic and hand them a DA letter with a friendly "f*** you" and walk out.

  How did your parents punish you?????(Fluff)

  now i know the topic may be thought of as abuse scenario, however it is not.....(i am sick of hearing about abuse).

  i threw a party at my house(parents came home early)....anyway, as a punishment i was to sand and stain shingles for the house.

  this was a huge job it took me 2 weeks to get it all done.

  Here's a weird one (but one I would consider doing to my own kids if need be). When my brother and I were about 12 and 14 respectively, the parents and their couple friends went out, leaving my bro and I and their two kids who were the same age as us. We decided to raid the alcohol. Just a tiny taste... When the parents all got home, they knew what we'd been up to. Our punishment? Drink a whole.friggin.huge.glass of Mad Dog. We were soooooo sick and I have not had a drop of MD since. *shudders*

  hi all, hope that someone can help!

  i was recently studying with the jw's and i'm just not sure on what to do.. i feel guilty because i canceled study for the time being.

  i just have so many questions.

  Red flag, right there. You should be able to question, research, learn the history of your chosen religion. There shouldn't be cover-ups, lies, flip-flops in doctrine. You should be able to ask questions and receive solid answers. Getting the run-around or having your questions avoided should bring up yet one more big question -- WHY do they do this? Stick around here and you will without a doubt get answers.

  In the meantime, I agree with those who say to take a VERY extended leave of your studying. Get the book "Crisis of Conscience" by Ray Franz (got mine at amazon.com). You will learn much.

  A religion that encourages severing of family ties screams cult. Seriously. http://www.freeminds.org/psych/lifton.htm This link shows the 8 marks of a mind-control cult. Each one of them fits the JW. This was a breath-holding eye-opener for me.

  their little boy was playing with a sword and his mum told me he had been watching 'narnia' (based on the lion the witch and the wardrobe).

  how many homes would you say the average jw hits in a year?

  i notice they do not leave the literature if nobody is home, usually.

  Here in the boonies, it depends on if it's rural or town territory. (Nice days = town, crappy weather = rurals) On a given Sat morning, we'd hit maybe 10-15 houses. Not-at-homes were not left any literature unless it was the second time thru, specifically targeting the NAH. In the rurals, we'd leave old rags mags first time thru for NAH -- one sister, if she was in charge, would tell us to leave 2-3. Rurals had a catch-22 -- break was limited to filling our coffee cups at the Qwik Trip as we headed outta town. If we were doing town territory -- ahhhh, loooonnng coffee break. Some used it for a full-on breakfast.

  I'm so glad to be done with this.

  I've thought of doing this exact same thing.... Skulking around the parking lot Thursday night, putting copies of the outline on everyone's car. I need to check the lighting, tho, to make sure I'm not seen.

  Not "special" at all, this talk. And like ya said, if everyone has the outline, no need to take notes!
