Hi and welcome to the board.
My suggestion is that you meet up with like minded people. I don't know where you live but I'm sure there are some ex jws nearby. It's not as scary as you think it might be and often turns out to be a real help.
If you are from the UK why don't you PM me in case you live in my neck of the woods?

Smoking when pregnant.
by Moomin inon the radio today they spoke about people who smoke when pregnant.
a woman rang in and said it was probably absolutely fine as her mum smoked when pregnant with her and she turned out alright?!?
the news was that some young mothers-to-be are deliberately smoking as they heard that it will make the babies smaller and therefore easier to give birth to.

I heard that every time a pregnant mother takes a drag on a cigarette, it's like she is putting her hands around her unborn baby's throat and squeezing it.
Therefore, if you smoke whilst pregnant you clearly do not love your unborn child. Simple as that!
It takes all my energy not to walk up to pregnant women who are smoking and snatch the cigarette out of their mouths and give them a lecture. Fortunately I don't see it that often. -

GREAT BOOK - GREAT QUOTE!
by Dansk ini'm re-reading walpola sri rahula's wonderful book what the buddha taught and, on page 5, a couple of paragraphs immediately stood out for me considering the amount of islamophobia and nationphobias recently exhibited here.
they read:.
"truth needs no label: it is neither buddhist, christian, hindu or moslem.

That proves just how arrogant the jws are in calling their religion 'the truth'.
I always hated that. -

What more can they possibly take from her?
by ButtLight insome of you may remember my mom was diagnosed with a rare disease that shrinks the brain.
(corticobasildegeneration) how i remember that is beyond me!
anyway, since she was diagnosed, they started out by taking her licence away about 3 years ago.

Why don't you move her in with you and then you can treat her however you see fit?

The Capable Wife....
by LivingInReality inright before i got disfellowshipped in 2002 i was sitting in the kingdom hall listening to an elder give a public needs talk.....and this one floored me.. so the brother starts talking about what it means to be a capable wife...of course all of the scriptures and regular bullshit we've heard over and over....but then he goes on to say...."so what i'm saying sisters is.... to save money to help with the household you can make a garden and get food from that to make your dinners.... you can learn how to sew so that you can make your own clothes instead of spending money to go and buy them at expensive department stores.... and you could look into your circumstances to see if its feasible for you to quit your jobs to stay home and run the household....blah blah blah.." i can't much remember the rest because my head had blown up to the size of jupiter with the hot steam i was about to let go in the middle of the talk.
i decided it was better to get up and go... and i did.
i only mention this now...because (now divorced from my ministerial servant husband of 10 years), i am a single mother that has worked her ass off not only in the secular world, but now as a mother raising two children, getting my college degree and maintaining every avenue of the household responsibilities on my own.

Which is greater, your time IN, or your time OUT?
by gaiagirl inspecifically, were you an active jw longer than you have been inactive or out of the organization, whichever applies?
i was active for about 15 years, then faded into inactivity, although never df'd or da'd.
time out hasn't yet caught up with time in, but time out is gaining.

Why did you choose the Alias that you did?
by The wanderer in<!-- .style1 { font-family: arial, sans-serif; color: #663399; } .style2 {font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;} .style7 {font-family: arial, sans-serif; color: #353185; } .style8 {color: #353185} --> why did you choose the alias that you did?
being curious about why people do or act the way they.
do led me to this discussion.

If you know any cockney rhyming slang, you'll know that Bubble and Squeak = Greek.
Since I am Greek Cypriot, I am also a 'Bubble' which is what the phrase is usually shortened to. -

family disowning you!!
by awol inafter 8 yrs not being a jw (not dfd just left)... my b.i.l has decided for the good of his family that they are not to associate with me!
my sis was like my best friend, and now .... after they had marital difficulties (which he knows only the half of, cos she has kept her mouth shut) he has now become a mini man!!
he has told my sis and my beautiful nieces and nephews that they cannot associate or speak to me at all.

Welcome Awol. This is an awful situation you're in. I hope your sister makes a stand against this horrible man and leaves him. I think if she meets the right person and falls in love, that will be her get out from the marriage and the religion. Sounds like this could be a strong possibility considering her 2 'misdemeanours'.

Richard Hammond by Jeremy Clarkson
by Simon ini was sent this ... apparently it's from jeremy clarksons newspaper column after his co-host on top gear, richard hammond, was badly injured in a 300 mph + crash .... .
september 23, 2006. in the wee small hours of thursday night, just 30 hours after what is almost certainly the worlds fastest ever car crash, richard hammond suddenly sat up in bed, opened his eyes and asked what had happened.
youve been in a car accident, i said.

As usual Clarkson is spot on. I absolutely love Top Gear and would be devastated if it was taken off air.
Long live the petrol heads.
