A lot of places do happy hour and people often times will get together after work for a beer (or two). Good luck on the search for new work. Sounds like you have a lot of changes you will be facing in the near future. Change can be fun!

What do you do for work? Do you have any work friends? If not, try and see if you can get to know people thru work. Really, making friends outside of the religion is easy. If you take an interest in other people, this usually opens the door to friendship. I do know that some people say that being a JW has caused them to be socially awkward and thus they are unable to make friends. I think when you put pressure on yourself, then you are sure to fail. Just be who you are. Be genuine. Show an interest in others. If there are social groups, then join them. For example, we have the Chicago Sports and Social and they do volleyball, softball, soccer, flag football, etc. If you have something like this, join it, this will allow you to get to know people outside of your usual sphere.
Good luck. Give yourself time. It is not as hard as it seems.

by minimus inthere's a tape circulating around the witnesses stating that when the separation of the sheep and goats happens, witnesses shouldn't think that they will automatically be saved just because they're witnesses.
if they aren't wholesouled, then they should not expect that having one foot in the "truth" and the other in the world will let them make it through the great tribulation....herd was trying to motivate the troops!

I remember an elder use to say this as well. It was his position that if JWs said they were sure to get into paradise then they would be the same as the born agains, once saved, always saved. He use to say "only with Jah's loving kindness and mercy, will even JWs make it". And then they wonder why people are leaving in herds (pun intended).

Cute cat! I grew up w/ dogs. They were all purebreds, so they did not have a super long life. I think the oldest was 13. I currently have two cats, which I am hoping will live forever! I adopted both of them. My first as a kitten and my second as a 2 year old.

There is another thread that has contributions by someone who is a supporter of Willie's and sees him (at least I would assume still sees him in prison). I cannot locate the thread, but I know it exists because I remember being disgusted by it. I think the user's name was something like "Willie's supporter" or something like that. You might want to see if you can tract that down as well. It will give you the other side of the coin. However, I totally disagree with that person's position and their alleged knowledge of the case, as it is based solely on Willie's account and not on court documents.

The kids name is Willie Carlson. Nowman knew him, as she grew up w/ him and his family. I will try to find the early postings involving the case.

JW children - conditionally loved?
by Gregor inwhen they reach a certain age they are expected to "sign up" (get baptized).
in many cases if they choose not to their parents essentially "disfellowship" them.
so a lot of children get baptized under pressure from the parents and when they fail to live the jw life and get df'd the folks are the harshest shunners.

From what I have seen it is rare for a JW parent to love their kids unconditionally. I know this also from personal experience and seeing it from the family side. I have a few friends whose parents loved them and would never turn their backs on them, but it was one or two out of the huge group I grew up with. The religion is a black or white, wrong or right religion. Hence, the take of you are either with us or against us, and that applied to family as well. It is also a way of isolating people and making them think 1) someone loves them (jah and/or fellow jws) because they live by strict guidelines 2) they are superior to others and 3) they are promised a hope for the future which they desperately desire because they are so miserable. These people are unable to think for themselves because they are spoon fed and do not wish to have it any other way.

much of what we do on a daily basis is routine and of no particular, earth-shaking importance.
however, after reviewing letters of family going back to wwii, it is fascinating to read what dad was doing on board the aircraft carrier in the pacific on any old day, what mom was cooking on her ever-steaming range, how i was dealing with the roller coaster of emotion at bethel [mom saved all my letters], how nana wrote that she would not study with the witnesses [per my request] but 'here are some mittens i knitted for you when you canvass new york with your magazines.

Well I am on my way out the door to start work as well. I am running late, because I just cannot seem to get motivated today. If I did not have stuff planned thru out the day, I would just work from home (but really not work). Oh well. The weather here is a little hinkey and I am not sure what it is going to do. I am hoping for good week end weather because of all the bbq's that are planned. How sad is my life that I am also looking forward to the week end so I can totally clean my place since it has not really been cleaned because I have been working non-stop for too long to even mention.
On a side note, I have a GF whose son just had surgery and because they are JWs, I got a uber long e-mail telling me all about the miracle of life and how Jah has given his peeps knowledge ahead of time .... her son is out of ICU and is healing quickly because of no blood, blah, blah, blah. It is really hard to be supportive w/ crap like this. But I do believe in "to each their own" and if that is what she and her family want to believe I must support them because they have always been supportive of me regardless of where I am with the religion. But it still feels like I have eaten hot pizza and the roof of my mouth is burning because I am holding in all the words I wish to express to her.
