  Strange Sudden DF'ing/Baptism Nullification ATTN. LURKERS

  ok well per my post yesterday most of you know i was suddenly disfellowshipped after my letter of baptism nullification.

  i called the presiding overseer to ask why.

  i specifically listed in my letter that i was not to be disfellowshipped nor was i disassociating myself.

  I think it is an interesting idea. It may actually work based on each cong and what those guys do.

  You would think is someone did not want to be a JW anymore they would think "fine, one less person to have to watch like a hawk", but instead it is as if you were married and you went to your clueless spouse and said I want a divorce. Come on, just let people go. They will go quietly if they are allowed to go. However, they are just shooting themselves in the foot by acting like @$$es trying to track everyone down that says anything anti-JW.

  my sister and i were talking today about how many would really be witnesses if they were allowed to leave without any reprocussions??

  what would the real count be??

  I think there are so many reasons that JWs will not change the shunning methods. Like LL said, it keeps people in. But it also allows people to be self-righteous, which is important to people who need to tear others down to build themselves up. If you are able to hinge your methods on "keeping the cong clean" you can pretty much do anything. Tell on eachother, police one another, keep WTBTS secrets, it goes on and on.

  you and your friend (elder's wife) get pulled in the back because you were "caught" driving around town listening to music in the car way too loud. bad example for the rest of the cong. Can I tell you who we were listening to .... ready .... Seal. COME ON PEOPLE! Don't you have anything better to complain about and counsel over. You've got to be kidd'n me.

  Your "New" Traditions?

  growing up as a jw, we were never allowed to have holidays or birthday's etc..... never able to show my brothers affection on their special day killed me.

  now every year, i sing "happy birthday" to my brothers nick and ben.

  i call them on their birthday, if they pick up the phone i yell and tell them i am going to leave a voice mail message.

  When I started my current job (about 10/11 years ago), I never told anyone I was raised as JW and never celebrated a birthday in my life. Well a year passed and my friends at work started to realize that no birthday drinks or festivites had been celebrated in my name so they inquired what the deallo was. I informed a few. Well the following year around my birthday, a group took me out for drinks. One of the attys I work with worked his way thru school as a bartender and he and some of his buddies came up with a drink. So he wrote the receipe on a cloth napkin. Every year around my birthday, I pull out the cloth napkin and we march out to a bar and have this special drink. This year is the 9th anniversary of my day of ME.

  I use to get it all the time as a kid. As well as "a cold" in my eye. I never figured that one out??? I never realized how often I rub my eyes until I kept getting yuckies in my eye and the doctor said stop touching your face!!! Who knew??? Extra special good happy vibes going out to you right now.

  Anyone do Charity work?????

  there is a few things that i am involved in, and have been for quite sometime.

  i feel that it is important to raise my children in this type of environment, so that they see outside of the box, and not be so closed minded on our surroundings.

  many are in need, and it is easy to close our eyes and forget.. my main charity work will always benefit children.. this weekend i have gathered many things from my house such as kids clothes, shoes, jackets...and i bought many blankets, cook ware, along with money etc... this will all go to easter seals.

  I do some pro bono work for the elder, battered women and children. There is a Legal Clinic that I have worked with since the 90's. My old boss was on the board, so he asked me to help out a long time ago and I have kept with them because I know where all the money goes (because I am still very good friends w/ old boss and he is still on the board) and I can see my work and that of others making a change for people who do not have a voice. I also work with a specific catholic charity that deals with teenagers with criminal backgrounds and/or mental disease.

  It think it is great when I hear that people are volunteering. The most amazing thing was when I went to volunteer at a soup kitchen, they turned me away because they did not need any help and had people lined up for a year. YEAH for everyone who volunteers!

  Ok - can someone please direct me to what certain abv. mean. I now understand PM. But what does ppl stand for? What does bttt stand for? Is there a cheat sheet somewhere? I was hoping terms of use would give it to me, but that just means terms of use of the board, not terms used when posting.

  Can an extremely "overweight" JW's man become a JW elder?

  i remember years ago at my kh there was a brother that was "very" heavy.

  he was a very nice guy brother grover(not his real name) was very helpful to all of the elders and ministerial servants but he never became an elder.

  i always wondered why and i think it was because he was "heavy".

  Yeah, we had a lot of overweight people in our hall and 1/2 of 'em were elders. Of course they felt fine about it because they were putting spiritual things first (I guess by not going to the gym).

  My old hall had a CO that was a jerk and one time he told a pioneer chick who was a known runner that her time would be better spent in spiritual pursuits rather then running. He said some other choice things before then as well but that is another matter ... However, the Large family members were all high-fiving eachother because they felt if a CO is saying it is bad to exercise then it must be true.

  No, I like the chick idea better. She could stroll in wearing a short skirt and a low top. That would give those old coots a jolt. Their pacemakers would be going off left and right!
