  My Son is Going Back to Iraq for his Second Tour

  and i am so angry about it.

  he leaves on the 29th of january and will be gone for 15 months.

  i am so scared that if i think about it for too long, i have panic attacks that leave me breathless and immobilize me.

  Selling of Magazines and literature

  i was thinking the other day that the watchtower society used to sell the mag's and books to people at the doors for a set price.

  i know that realisticly they need to cover costs but everyone knows they made profit off of their sales and still do through the donation method now in place.

  what i wonder is how did they justify selling for a set price when it clearly says in the bible "you recieved free, give free".

  Do you really believe his name is Jehovah?

  i read an article somewhere when i first started studying with the jw's that said that the name jehovah was actually just a hypothesis from a monk in the year 700 or some other thing.. i don't remember if this is correct in the year or where i read it - i read so many things when i first learned what the witnesses were really about.

  everything i could get my hands on.. but for some reason i don't know why but calling god jehovah just really bugs me and always makes me think of the witnesses.. does it bother anybody else and do you think if he exists his name really is jehovah?

  The JW's are not the only ones that believe that Jehovah is the correct pronounciation. That doesn't mean that is the right way to say it.

  I still have a problem with the whole idea of calling God by his name. I feel as though it might be inappropriate. Think abou this: Do you call a judge by his first name? How about people that deserve respect? In school we didn't call the teachers by their first name. We still probably say yes sir, to a cop, or a superior officer in the military.

  How is it that the creator of the universe shouldn't demand the same respect? How about Lord, or, here is an idea, how about, God?

  Met a JW elder for the first time since leaving JW

  i left about 14 months back and stopped attending meetings cold turkey.

  so i haven't seen any jws for ages and for some reason i've never bumped into them at the mall or in town - and i guess that means they haven't seen me either or know what i'm up to.. i was at a cafe with a male friend today, we look like a typical couple that is we're the same age, shop together etc but its purely platonic.

  but you know how it is with jw .

  Problem is that so many witnesses think that if you leave "the truth" you will be sooooo unhappy.

  They don't realize that one can live a productive, healthy, positive life without them.

  that's how i titled my response to a thread (on a non-religious discussion board i frequent) asking: "in honor of the lord's baptism today, were you baptised?

  I couldn't agree more.

  That is one of the biggest complaints I have with the witnesses. Every decision you make after being baptized, is critical to your social and emotional well being. You do something wrong as far as the congregation is concerned, and your life as you know it, is over.

  Cabbage Patch Dolls?

  looking at the smurf thread i was wondering, in my congregation in the 80's there were also storys of demonic cabbage patch dolls attacking jw kids.

  i wasn't allowed to have one because they might be demonized.

  was it just my cong.

  sad to hear john basedow is presumed dead after the tsunami, and has not been heard from since december 25. .

  It would be just pure torture to have to go out in service these days. Didn't like it then either, but can't even imagine it now.

  There are tons and tons of witnesses that are in the automobile touch up business. Leathery and vinyl work, etc.
