Holidays were the special field service days. You didn't have to work, so the next best thing was to go out in service.
I thought it was very rude to go bother the people at the door, especially on Christmas and Thanksgiving.
.
remember how embarrassing it was to show up at someone's door on a holiday?when i was a teenager i went out with a very zealous pioneer sister on christmas day.we worked an upscale neighborhood of town and of course all the servants were off so they would answer the door themselves.i rang one doorbell and a lady came to the door and i could see her family inside sitting in chairs in a circle opening gifts.they all looked at me to see who in the world was calling on christmas,i suppose.i gave my presentation with a red face and she just looked at me and said"don't you know today is christmas?
"how embarrassing is that?so glad i don't have to do that anymore.

These changes as posted, among others, is in my opinion one of the most damning things the WTS has done to itself.
Perfect for showing practising witnesses.
for myself it has been very frustrating when trying to help other jw's that i know to become free of the wt.society.i use to try to kill the tree,so to speak,by cutting off the many branches(the individual arguments);i since learned that it is much better to kill the tree by cutting at its roots(showing the discrepancies within the source of the arguments, the organization).in speaking with one close friend i was taking him into new and unfamiliar territory, namely ,undermining the organization itself.i did this by asking him questions concerning the wt.organization.as he was thinking that i was asking for his help,he began to realize that there were some things that he could not swallow anymore.then he began asking me, what did i know about the society that he didn't.since then i have been able to help him see clearly another side to the organization and he is slowly fading away.i have found this approach much more effective and less frustrating.
blueblades
I believe the internet is going to help out tremendously in lowering the amount of new witnesses, as well as helping those already in, leave.
The other great way that will help those already in leave, is those who already know the "real truth" and help others out, from the inside. Good work blueblades!
after reading about how we now have an increase in the lord's organization, i must wonder whether we think that their data is reliable.
the society has used "theocratic stratergy" for years and lied about anything that is in their best interests.
why take any stock in what they say about anything.
Even if the numbers are right, it does not tell us how many are unhappy, and don't believe it, and want to leave.
How many of those are gung ho zealous witnesses, doing their studies, the meetings, service? THAT would be the figures that I would be interested in seeing.
did you guys suffer the way i did every xmas?
did you want it as much as i did??
what things went through your mind and soul?
Growing up as a witness, I never knew what it was like. Looking back, I think there were a lot of fun memories lost, that we could have enjoyed as kids with Christmas.
The worst part though, was telling others that I didn't celebrate Christmas, and the looks of sadness upon those that had wished us Happy Holidays. And then hearing about all the presents the kids got when I went to school.
are you an exjw or not an exjw anymore...?
3 statements i heard people make: .
i am not an exjw anymore.
I just tell people that I grew up a witness, and saw the light, and left. Never worried about labels.
i don't think i will never join another organized religion.
that being said however, i have enjoyed going on occasion to non-denominational churches, watching the band play music, and the speaker.
if you did or would attend another church regularly, which one would you go to and why?
Ruby- What happened with the martial arts school? I have been involved with the arts for a long time, and have not heard of anything like that.

was it natural for you to speak in public, either from door to door, or making talks at the hall.
for some, it was a real scarry thing to speak in front of a group.
was that a big load off your back when you quit going to the meetings?
I am glad that I learned how to talk to people, as it helps me with my current businesses. But, I could have learned that elsewhere too, and wouldn't have had the witness stuff behind me.
i rely on it for business.
some reports say that they cause brain tumours...?
they also save a lot of lives (indirectly, of course) by allowing the user to dial for emergency services when there isn't a payphone nearby.
They are such a time saver.
