I agree...families and the lack of research bring people back. Honestly, I can't see how anyone can go back once they learn about all of the hypocrisy. That hurts when you've believed something for you whole life.

Did you think that you knew more ?
by A Paduan in.
as a jw, were you convinced that you knew more theologically than "those in christendom", yet hadn't really even read the bible ?
more than say, a monk who over a thousand years ago hand wrote one, and read it everyday ?

They teach you that you know more and what a blessing it is that Jehovah has taught the governing body this information so that they can share it with you--therefore you can teach it to those who do not know. It makes me so disgusted that they really don't know anything. It makes it real difficult to trust anything else you read from religions period.
Some of the pioneers were so arrogant with "their" bible knowledge that no one else knew. What got my attention was that during one of my studies before I ended them, I asked a sister a thought provoking question and she could not answer it without referring me to the Revelation book (which after reading made no sense). She didn't even understand it and then commented that it was so wonderful that Jehovah has provided this accurate knowledge to us. How stupid!

My Story..... Need advice on reinstatement Letter.
by jrjr4189 ini've been a member of the site for a month, but have been reading the posts for a lot longer, however this is my first post.
i was raised a j-dub by my mother (my father wasn't religious) with my sister and brother.
i was pretty much convinced by my dub friends, bible study conductor, and mother that i should get baptized when i was 15 and decided to go for it.

if you are only occasionally attending meetings, I would be surprised if they would reinstate you
I was wondering about that too. I had to go to the meeting consistently for 12 months both times I was disfellowshipped.

An elder just called me...just need some quick advice on how to handle it.
by stillAwitness inhey guys,
quick question: one of the elders just called me about a talk i am supposed to give tomorrow night.
well its obvious he is not aware that i don't live at home anymore (he made the comment that he hasn't seen me in awhile but figures its cause of the recent district convention stuff) and for me to let him know either way wether or not i would be giving the talk.

He doesn't seem to concerned at the moment. More worried about whether you are giving a talk on the school than your 'spirituallity' !
I've had that happen lots of times. One time an elder wanted my field service time and I hadn't been to the meeting in months! Never once asked what was going on or how am I.
You don't owe him an answer. Ignore him, eventually he won't even bother to call.

All JW thoughts, ideas, and subject have been covered her several times
by free2beme ini have come to this board for ever a year now.
one very openly obvious thing, that you notice within a couple of months.
is that subjects repeat here, often.

I agree with many of the above comments. Sometimes you miss it the first time. I have gotten a response for every questions asked and also responses for questions that I've never asked. I truly enjoy all of the information I've received from this site. Thank you everyone.

WT magazines in different territories
by New Worldly Translation inwhen i was a jw i always had a question that i don't think i ever got to the bottom of.. it was do the jw's in different countries get different versions of the watchtower and awake magazines?.
it always struck me that the magazines were always very america-centric and a lot of the issues addressed wouldn't be applicable to jw's overseas.
living in the uk i found some of the articles to be extremely patronising and i could only imagine what an african or russian jw reading them would be thinking.. there were articles about conserving money by only taking one holiday a year or only having one car in the family.

I've heard that they tailor it to the way the country looks. If it is in Africa - the magazines will show ethnic brothers and sisters, China, Mexico and so on... Has anyone else witnessed this?

Insensitive talk assignments
by Steve Lowry ini once was assigned a talk on masturbation when i was about fifteen or so.
the theme of the talk was to discourage masturbating (actually to forbid the practice), as it was considered by the society a no no.
looking back on it, it offends me to this day that they would give a kid such a sensitive and embarrassing talk assignment like that.

I remember having a part on a Circuit Assembly. My experience was edited to what they wanted me to say. I look back now and can discern the scripted experiences given at assemblies. (when I attend) Its so pathetic.

Names for the animals, Where is that list?
by Satanus inin genesis 2, it says, .
19 so out of the ground the lord god formed every animal of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name.
20 the man gave names to all cattle, and to the birds of the air, and to every animal of the field; (nrsv) .

Excellent question...mind boggling. Maybe because some of the bible texts are missing???? That's what a JW would say. I've often wondered how new names of animals come up years later if Adam named all of the animals. Does that include those microscopic creatures???

My sis calls & says,"Your dead"&"I wish you'd died in a car accident"(long)
by morwen inya know... i'm a bit amazed at times at how utterly out of touch with reality jw's can be.
here's a little bit of a background of what's been going on....
i've been having an on going issue with my jw family about my husband & i(and our 4 young children) no longer going to meetings and us having questions/problems with this religion.we are not df'd nor da'd (at this point) but have not been to a meeting in about 7 months and have been inactive for probably 3-4 years now.we haven't lived near my parents for several years so they have been a little "in the dark" so to speak as to us being inactive but we kinda were given a bit of "lee-way" since 5 yrs.

You hang in there...it's your husband... your children and you and your husband are the only ones that can discern what's right for your family.
Your family (parents & sisters) need to get a grip. Don't let them make you feel guilty. You have your reasons, you've done research and that's the end of it. You've found "your" truth.
I do hope all goes well.
