Do you still refer to God as Jehovah?
by nomoreTRUTHplz ini am curious if anyone still calls their god jehovah.
when i think of jehovah all i can think of is what they taught me.
it was true at first i felt a much more personal and stronger relationship with god when giving him a name, however certain things they taught forced me to see him as a cold and unloving god.

I would have to agree with you James Free for me it also represents their version and he is vindictive and slow. That was one of my questions all along, why must god wait all this time and let everyone suffer because of what adam and eve did? Why not just start over? When i asked this the answer was that would not have atually solved the issue it would have come up again later. But I say what is the difference between killing them on the spot for disobeying and killing everyone at armageddon who doesn't listen or everyone who doesnt accept him after the 1,000 years. Does it really prove that his way is right by letting mankind suffer only to wipe them out any more than killing adam and eve on the spot. Either way that logic boils down to "Serve me or DIE." To me that is basically killing anyone who disagrees, does it really prove one right just because they kill anyone with a different view???

having doubts..
by fairchild ini have not been on this board in a while for various reasons.
the main reason being that my best friend died on march 11th, and things have been different since that day.
i don't have words to describe how the void feels, so i won't even attempt.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is no wonder you would question things after losing a loved one. When I think back on my son being born and how he was sick and I thought he would die I found comfort in believing even if he died I would see him again in paradise. Now I look at my children and sometimes wonder what I have to offer them now. I understand when you say you want to know and to believe for selfish reasons, I have felt that way too. Sometimes it helps me to remember that Jesus did not tell his disciples everything until they were ready to handle it. Perhaps the only answer we really have from what we learned with the witnesses is that NO ONE has all the answers. Maybe accepting that needs to be enough at times. If you still pray I would suggest praying for strength and to have peace. Once again I am so sorry you are going through this trying time.

Thank you all for the welcome. You are right I need to be honest with my daughter it's just that right now I have not decided what to celebrate and what not to. I have let her celebrate birthdays at school but as far as Halloween, Christmas and Easter I am undecided. The thing that makes it harder is my mom still tells her about how she doesn't celebrate and my daughter loves going to meetings and attends with my mom sometimes. I don't want to stop her from something she likes that I no longer want, but I'm sure one of these times she will mention something they won't like and I hope they don't begin to treat her differently then. I have really avoided discussing it with my daughter due to my own confusion but you're right for her sake I will have to talk openly about it to her.

Wow! I totally agree with you all! When I started going in service afternoons would have been the best time for me with my schedule but the lady I was studying with wanted to go in the mornings all the time. NO ONE WAS HOME! Times I have been in afternoon you actually get people. I always wondered too... why aren't we going when people actually answer the door? And that always bothered me how they think everyone else is wrong and will be destroyed. Give me a break there are tons of non-witnesses who are more loving and all around good people than most witneeses I know. I also agree about using technology to witness, there is a lot of progessing they COULD do, but don't tell them...we aren't supposed to think on our own!!!

Hello all. I am new here. I began studying with the witnesses in 02 and was baptized in 04 but within months of baptism I stopped attending meetings. My marriage was rocky at best before I studied (husband abusive) but after it just continued to get worse. I had a baby daughter when I started and had my son while going to meetings and out in service as unbaptized publisher. Of course I was doing this without help of my husband so I would always come home from meetings more stressed than ever after keeping (or attempting I should say) my kids under control while there. Of course no one would ever offer to help with them...except when I would miss a few meetings and then elders would say something to sisters and then they would be like "Oh yeah we help each other don't we". I always wondered with all the LOVE they speak of why do they need to be reminded of something so simple. Another question I always had was the apostasy thing. If it was the truth what were they so afraid I would learn? Now I know, I would learn how many stupid things they have said in the past. Also with my marriage, they have all those rules about reasons for separation. Well everything I read about abuse said in cases of "extreme physical abuse". Well they really need to be inlightened because the verbal, mental and psychological abuse is the hardest to live with. (Speaking of that since leaving my husband and the organization I began to realize they used the EXACT same tactics of control that my husband did. So I wonder if I had not been so used to being controlled, would I have even fallen into their trap?) And it's funny when I was with my husband I did not have any support from them but once I left they're practically swarming me with offers of help and sympathy. Where were they when I really needed them? And when I spoke with elders about the abuse when I was still attending meetings the only thing they could say was "Try to keep the kids quieter, cook his supper and don't call the police because once you get authorities involved you can't get rid of them(look who's talking)." A lot of help that was. Now I just wish I had never gotten involved in it in the first place. My daughter is now going on 5, she's been taught their beliefs up until now so she asks me all the time "Do we celebrate birthdays? Do we do Easter? Grandma doesn't do birthdays does she?" She is so confused now. My family is very split because of it all. My aunt is baptized and she studies with my mom, but my mom shows no interest in progressing although she does not celebrate holidays and attends all meeting, she says she will NOT become a publisher and I hope she sticks to that.
I have been reading on here about Richie Rich and how he got ahold of the flock book. I read about that on other sites. Is there somewhere that it is on here. I am very curious about what it says. I told my mom a little about what I read before, but she isn't ready to listen I guess.
Thank you all for reading this and I am glad to have someone to talk to now. No one who hasn't been there understands. I have tried telling old friends how hard it is to leave the witnesses but they just don't get it. How much guilt you feel and how confused you suddenly are about what to believe. I really miss praying, but just don't know how anymore. Feel like I gotta figure out who MY god is because their version is not my idea at all. Thank you all.
