At the Service meeting tonight the Service Overseer announced that the British Bethel had received 50 requests for bible studies since the campaign. This surprised me, though I suppose it's not really a huge amount, I wouldn't have expected that many.
Also, our Cong has run out of tracts, and we're only half way through the campaign, with lots of territory still to cover. They were almost begging people to bring back any tracts they don't expect to use as 'the Society won't send any more' - Worldwide message indeed... Well, I know I will not be returning any of the 140+ tracts I have sitting in my cupboard! (I've stolen loads of other dubs' tracts, telling them I've run out and need more - Call it Theocratic Warfare Strategy - keep them away from the householders!)
And finally, the SO had an 'experience' where he met a former priest, who left his religion because of the lack of love, and is 'very interested in finding out more about the love in our organisation' He's in for a disappointment...

How do the JW's interpret the mark on the right hand and forehead and 666?
by JH inand it puts under compulsion all persons, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free and the slaves, that they should give these a mark in their right hand or upon their forehead,17and that nobody might be able to buy or sell except a person having the mark, the name of the wild beast or the number of its name.18here is where wisdom comes in: let the one that has intelligence calculate the number of the wild beast, for it is a mans number; and its number is six hundred and sixty-six.. in these few verses alone, they talk about a mark on the right hand and forehead, as well as not being able to buy or sell without that mark, and finally the number of the wild beast 666.. after studying the revelation climax book a couple of times with the jw's, i still don't recall a clear explanation for these verses above.. if we are so close to the end, wouldn't they know what 666 means by now?

According to JW's - The number 7 in the bible represents perfection. (Similarly they teach that other numbers represent other things i.e. 10 - Completeness)
So, 6 = Less than perfection (smaller than 7) So, more 6s, or 666 = Even further from perfection. Basically, it is meant to represent man's imperfection. According to them! Edited to add: 666 is nothing to do with the devil, just man's imperfection! -

Society's viewpoint of other bibles
by Zico ini like this quote, from page 145 of theocratic ministry school book about using other bibles.
'you must realize, however, that some bible translators have taken liberties with god's word.
their renderings may not conform in all respects to what was in the original bible languages.

'You must realize, however, that some Bible translators have taken liberties with God's Word. Their renderings may not conform in all respects to what was in the original bible languages. A number of modern translators have eliminated God's personal name, obscured what the original-langauge text says regarding the condition of the dead, and concealed what the Bible says about God's purpose for the earth.'
What about inserting Jehovah's name where it never appeared, or mistranslating parousia and proskuneo in order to support the faulty invisible presence doctrine, and to relegate Jesus importance? Hmmm.... -

by Zico ini have decided to respond to this post via a new thread in order to stop ub's thread from going off topic: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/122731/2171641/post.ashx#2171641 .
"those who are afraid of the shunning policy {process} need to feel this on some level in order to fully comprehend why so many are hurt and angry, still.
why we are fighting so hard for truth and justice.

"Again, I'm not sure why some think my post on that thread was off topic. Perhaps a moderator can point it out."
Either way, UB didn't want us to debate/argue on his thread, and since it was his thread, I'll respect his wishes. I don't think it matters?
"You all do what you think you have to do and speak about it. I'll do the same, as I'm doing in my posts."
That's what I'm doing here. Since my opinion is so different to yours, I want to offer you a different viewpoint, and discuss it with you.
"Devoting threads to judge my freedoms of speaking out and basically try to shut me up, is silly and futile. Not to mention, a waste of bandwith."
I originally wrote my post to go in the other thread, but took it into a new post as UB wouldn't have wanted me to post it in there, and I wanted to debate/discuss my opinions on your own opinions that you placed in that thread. This is a discussion board after all.
"This issues of fraud and hypocrisy at the expense of the children and unsuspecting "householders" is big for me and I will continue to expose the lunacy at every opportunity presented. And it appears the opportunity is gaining momentum."
I've just presented an opportunity! -

"Those who are afraid of the shunning policy {process} NEED to feel this on some level in order to fully comprehend why so many are hurt and angry, still. Why we are fighting so hard for truth and justice.
I used to say no one deserves to go through it { the shunning }. I don't subscribe to that any longer. My opinion is that it should be mandatory if you are going to try and help those after you exit yourself. Why should you be exempt?"
I don't understand this. Why would you ever wish pain on anyone else? I admire you and everyone else who lost everyone important to them and had to cope with the shunning, but everyone's situation is different, and I see no reason why everyone should go through the shunning if they don't have to, and it's not your place to decide what we should and shouldn't do, nor is it up to you to judge us. Each individual on this board knows their own situation best, and they know how best to help the people around them. If I get DF'ed I will not be able to help any of my family or friends, as they will shun me, especially if it's for apostasy.
Do you also realise that you would have a much harder time battling the WTS without the Active JWs on this board - The spies. Or at least the Inactives who still have contact with JWs and can get info on what they're up to. I don't think this board wouldn't be half the place it is if everyone here was DF'ed.
'But that's just me, I'm sure. {Actually, I'm not so sure it's only me}.'
Probably not only you, but then have you noticed how few people back up your opinion when you post your judgements?
'You get what you give. It's simple.'
It really isn't. A JW is far more likely to talk to a fader/inactive JW than a DF'ed one.
How many people have you helped out of the cult?
"And why shouldn't you? How much time has to tick away? You either take a deep breath and dive into the process, knowing it's gonna be hell and sacrifices are a part of this, or you keep the wheels of the WTBTS greased and running while children trapped in these lethal beliefs and policies, ENFORCED BY THEIR PARENTS WHOM GET THEIR RULES AND REGULATIONS FROM HIGHER RANKING MALE MEMBERS { "thus saith jehovah the mouthpiece..."}, decay...spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically. Should be a no-brainer people."
You keep the wheels greased up by donating them money and bringing people in, who can give them more money, or more people to donate etc... etc... I bet you will NOT find one active JW here who has brought an individual into the Society once they realised it's not the Truth. And the vast majority of them, certainly don't give the Org or their Cong any money.
'Stop worrying about YOUR losses and start thinking about what so many children CONTINUE TO LOSE ON A DAILY BASIS.'
sKally - Being realistic, what would hurt you more - The death of a VERY close family member or friend, or the death of 1000 people in some kind of disaster, none of whom you've ever met?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm willing to offer help to anyone on this board to help them bring down the Organisation which I hate, as long as it doesn't compromise my standing in the Org FOR NOW. Once I am confident that I have done everything I can to try to help my family and friends out of this cult, then I will be willing to take a more active role. I don't, however, take issue with anyone who chooses a different route. Each to their own, but I come here not to be judged by someone who thinks they're better than me just because I'm fortunate enough to not yet have been submitted to the shunning process. -

Holidays
by LittleToe ini was recently pmed about celebrating holidays, and thought it might be worthwhile posting a thread about it, even though it has been covered many times before.
the explanation i give below is a mini-refutation of the ills of enjoying such "decadence": please feel free to add comments, though if it must be an essay please keep it short enough to be readable without the need to go to the restroom for a bladder-bursting break!!!.
"there is no new thing under the sun" eccl.1:9.. if paganism can be called a distinct religion (given that it has as many amorphous guises as christian denominations), then it already did everything and tried everything, not really leaving an awful lot for any subsequent religion to uniquely call its own.

I've never celebrated Christmas, or a Birthday, but don't have a problem with them anymore. Considering how competitive, snobby and jealous some members can get though, I often wonder if it's a good thing that the JWs aren't allowed to celebrate Christmas/Birthdays? It would cause mayhem!

PREACHING TO THE ANIMALS NOW....
by Mary inok, someone sent me this and i just about pissed myself laughing.
apparently, there's nothing abnormal about preaching to animals if you need to get those hours in.
i'm still struggling whether or not this actually happened, or if it's just a wt legend:.

If it was such a 'vicious dog', so vicious that they couldn't get past it to get to the man, wouldn't it have attacked them when they went to speak to it?

JW Weddings
by sandy inare witnesses permitted to have non-witnesses (family members) in their wedding party and still hold it at the kingdom hall?
i forget some of the rules.
-
Zico
At a wedding I went to last year, the groom's sister, who had left the JWs was a bridesmaid.
I don't believe there's an official rule, but if anyone did use a Non-Witness in their wedding party, it would certainly be frowned upon. The guy I mentioned was heavily criticised for allowing his sister to be used (behind his back, of course)
Being the son of a prominent elder probably helped him as well, otherwise he may have been advised against it. Certainly if the Non-Witness was DF'ed it would not be allowed.
