I'm going to a JW wedding on Saturday. The Groom is 20, and the bride is 22.
A bit young this, don't you think? They argue A LOT as well. I think they're only marrying because they want sex, but then, I don't know for sure, but I don't see any other reason why they would get married, since they never seem to talk to each other much except to moan at each other. They don't APPEAR to get one.
Anyway, they're going to London for their honeymoon. During the week one of the Groom's friends is in London, and the Groom is trying to get away from his wife so he can go spend a day with his mate. ON HIS HONEYMOON. Have you ever heard of anything like this? True story.
Whilst I can't help but laugh at how ridiculous that is, I sincerely hope they don't have children any time soon.

Well, looking at this from a biblical point of view. The Jehovah's Witnesses believe they are the only true religion, as they are the only ones who have the correct doctrine, and the only ones who go house to house preaching. Ignoring the fact that they have false doctrine, I can't find anywhere that the bible actually says that having a proper understanding is even an identifying mark of a true worshipper.
James 1:27 says: 27 The form of worship that is clean and undefiled from the standpoint of our God and Father is this: to look after orphans and widows in their tribulation, and to keep oneself without spot from the world. It is therefore my opinon, that a true religion would encourage it's members to look after people in need and follow God's commandments. This is all that is necessary for a true worshipper to do, and all it takes to be a true religion. I can't find anywhere that says preaching is a neccessity. If this is all it takes to be a true religion, then why would God choose just ONE to do this work? (I know one mark Jesus gives of a false religion: Luke 21:8. Who would that apply to?) -

Questions for JWs
by Ellie inhi everyone, been away for a while so firstly just want to say hello, hope you are all well.. theres a really interesting thread about witnesses running on another board, loads of people are asking basic questions like "why dont you celebrate xmas" etc, and a whole load of witnesses are answering, obviously happy to increase their hours.. i just thought id be evil and ask you lot for some awkward questions to ask them.. so come on, give me your worst.. by the way, the other forum is not witness related at all..

Hi Ellie, Ask them: 'Since Luke 21:8 quotes Jesus warning his followers never to follow or be misled by people who say the end is near (or 'the due time has approached'), in reference to his disciples request for a sign of his second coming, why do you expect people to follow you when you preach that this time is near?'

When, recently, has the Watchtower tried to explain 607 BC leading to 1914?
by Gill ini just haven't seen any new articles or books on this subject from the wt recently.
have i missed something or are they about to try and sweep this irritating date of 607 bce under the carpet and pretend they never said it or have received new light?

Gill, this contradicts both the Society’s, and the Bible’s teachings.
The bible teaches quite clearly that Jerusalem was destroyed in the 18th regnal year of Nebuchadnezzar’s reign. The Society agree with this, and say this happened in 607 BCE. Secular History teaches it happened about 587 BCE. Here is a Society quote: *** Insight Volume 2 p.481 Nebuchadnezzar ***
Finally, in 607 B.C.E., on Tammuz (June-July) 9 in the 11th year of Zedekiah's reign (Nebuchadnezzar's 19th year if counting from his accession year or his 18th regnal year), a breach was made in Jerusalem's wall. Zedekiah and his men fled but were overtaken in the desert plains of Jericho. I can’t remember where the supporting biblical quotes that say Jerusalem was destroyed in the 18th year are, but compare this with Jeremiah 52:28-30 28 These are the people whom Neb·u·chad·rez´zar took into exile: in the seventh year, three thousand and twenty-three Jews.
29 In the eighteenth year of Neb·u·chad·rez´zar, from Jerusalem there were eight hundred and thirty-two souls.
30 In the twenty-third year of Neb·u·chad·rez´zar, Neb·u´zar·ad´an the chief of the bodyguard took Jews into exile, seven hundred and forty-five souls.
All the souls were four thousand and six hundred. As you can see here, the Society teach that the 18th regnal year was 607BCE. The bible shows that people from Jerusalem were taken into exile from his 7th year, not beginning in his 18th. It also shows he was still taking them in his 23rd year. Nothing in the bible indicates he was still taking them into exile in his 38th year. -

Gill, Your parents are wrong. 607 isn't flexible at all. The Society get to the date, by saying that Jerusalem had to have remained desolate for 70 years, and that since the Jews returned to Jerusalem in 537 BCE, Jerusalem must have been destroyed by the Babylonians in 607. According to JW chronology, 607 WAS the final attack, NOT 586. JW's will often make up things to support their own beliefs with no proof whatsoever. (Cognitive Dissonance) For example, a JW told me that all Babylonian chronology was inaccurate. I asked him, then, why the Society agree with secular historians that Babylon fell in 539BCE. He said 'That date is based on Jewish and Persian records, not Babylonian ones' He's still trying to find the evidence to support this. The reason most JW's don't research 607 is because most JW's aren't aware there is even conflict with another date. The Society rarely mentions 586/7.

Heathen,
'Do more , we've told you stories that are unverfiable about people that have disability , we can't even produce a picture of these people'
They do actually have a picture of the disabled woman in the Mag, but I agree with you about it being used just as a guilt trip. -

Jehovah Reveals
by Norm inthe watchtower society has a long history of failed predictions and flip/flop teachings.. this is rather strange considering their bold claims of having this unique direct line to the almighty.
there seem to be no end to what jehovah reveals to the guys in brooklyn.
the watchtower magazine never tires of reminding its readers of this remarkable connection.. in the beginning russell had adopted a chronology involving dates like 1799, the beginning of the end, 1874, jesus parousia or invisible return, 1914, the end of this system.

Witnesses will focus on anything now. I showed a JW a news link quoting Elton John saying that 'Organised religion should be banned' His response was to state that Elton John was a popular figure, with lots of connections, and that maybe this could bring about the Great Tribulation. It's incredible what you can convince yourself to believe when you want something to happen enough.
