Grand and Lesser Apostate Delusions
by slimboyfat inwhat is it makes some of those wacky apostates appear from time to time claiming russell and the witnesses were/are all part of some great freemason/illuminati plot?
i'll tell you what it is, and it may explain a few other things for you too!
people who come up with these theories demonstrate a basic psychological insecurity stemming from their involvement and subsequent disentanglement from the witnesses.

Not getting enough attention lately, are we sbf? Time to put down the entire board again?
First of all, I'm not an apostate. I reject that title.
Secondly, your screed is far too generalized and paints with broad strokes. I entirely agree with you about the illuminati/freemasonry people (because I am allergic to conspiracy theories). I even agree about your identification of their motive--it's hard to believe that what you see is what you get with the Witnesses, because if it fooled ME (or whoever) it must be some kind of sinister plot, or be using hypnosis, or something.
But there are well-documented cases for some of the other things you mention--for example, the Creation book is a model of disingenuous, twisted, misleading quotations from scientists. It's full of deliberate lies. The Trinity brochure is the same way. Rutherford was a well-known drunk. Etc.
If you really want to discuss some of these issues I suggest taking them up in separate topics. -

Smoking when pregnant.
by Moomin inon the radio today they spoke about people who smoke when pregnant.
a woman rang in and said it was probably absolutely fine as her mum smoked when pregnant with her and she turned out alright?!?
the news was that some young mothers-to-be are deliberately smoking as they heard that it will make the babies smaller and therefore easier to give birth to.

Smoking while pregnant is evil. The fact that it works out for some people does not change the inherent evil of doing it.

Is the WTS changing positions on the croos vs. stake?
by whyizit inmy husband was listening to a radio station the other day and said there was news that the wts has decided that jesus dying on a cross rather than a stake may not be as far-fetched as they once thought.. have any of you heard this?
i have been cruising the threads to see if there was already one on this subject.
if there is, point me to it!

Is the name Jehovah the GOD of the WTBS?
by architect inif the english version of jehovah is not correct and the wtbs insist on using it based on their research is it right to say that this is the god of jehovahs witnesses?
.
is this a correct assumption?.

Well, no. I wouldn't say that. It's true that it's not likely the original Hebrew pronunciation, nor even an anglicized version of the original Hebrew pronunciation. The pronunciation "Jehovah" is based on a combination of the Tetragrammaton and a misunderstanding of bible copyist instructions.
However the name isn't a god to them so much as it is an icon or an idol. I would definitely consider their use of it to be idolatry, but the God the Witnesses worship, for all intents and purposes, is their organization, the Watch Tower Society. -

How Come So Many Bethelites Leave The Organization
by ilovemusik inhello i'm new here but i've been reading the things on this db for quite some time.
i am still an active witness, but i've been having doubts for quite sometime and have been looking into the background of the organization, very shocked at what i'm finding.
since i lived next to headquarters and had a lot of bethelites in my congregation, i was shock to learn (not only on this db) that so many bethelites who leave bethel also end up leaving the organization.

BluesBrother, I think it DOES happen in significant numbers. However, I, like you, remain unconvinced that it happens at a greater frequency among Witnesses than it does among non-Witnesses.
The issue for me isn't the frequency--it's the response. The secular response, at least in first-world nations, is much more robust and protects children much better than does the response among Witnesses. Witnesses often, even typically, end up failing to protect children from abuse and punish the abuser, often resulting in the abuser abusing again. I don't know, in my grandfather's case, if his proclivities came to the attention of the elders in his hall or not. I wish I did. I suspect it remained a family affair.
The only way the religion came into this story was the disowning and shunning of my uncle, who chose to leave the religion and his family over the issue, and the fact that this story illustrates the complete impossibility of believing that the Holy Spirit has anything to do with the selection or retention of the "glorious ones"--elders. -

I hate to question a newbie (hey welcome to the board, ilovemusik!) but are there really a lot of Bethelites that leave the organization? More or less by percentage than non-Bethelites? Just curious whether you know this for a fact or it's just a guess.
