In his post there, Gus says:
>>Isn't artificially-induced anxiety one of the burdens we are told to avoid?
This is really untrue. "Creating and maintaining a sense of urgency about the time of the end" is one of the overt, acknowledged maxims of the Society and its publications.

Are they really just saving themselves?...
by Hecklerboy inwhen i was a teenager my best friends little brother (baby) died because he was refused a blood transfussion.
it really bothered me even though i thought they did the right thing.. now that i'm out i was talking to my wife about it and the whole blood thing and came to the realization that they did it just to save themselves.. think about it.
if you allow your child to have a blood transfusion, who is god going to blame?

They also like to use Abraham's potential sacrifice of Isaac as justification for this policy. See, they'll say, Abraham was willing to kill his son, because he knew that God could resurrect him. If you don't have the same attitude about your kids, you lack faith in God. Unfortunately this is exactly what it says at Hebrews 11:17-19:
(Hebrews 11:17-19) 17 By faith Abraham, when he was tested, as good as offered up Isaac, and the man that had gladly received the promises attempted to offer up [his] only-begotten [son], 18 although it had been said to him: “What will be called ‘your seed’ will be through Isaac.” 19 But he reckoned that God was able to raise him up even from the dead; and from there he did receive him also in an illustrative way.
The whole Abraham "as good as" sacrifices Isaac is one of the OT stories that has always really turned my stomach. I have always wondered if "Go to hell, God!" would also have been an acceptable answer on Abraham's part; human sacrifice was ostensibly something that the unbelieving, pagan nations at that time did, and so perhaps God was only testing whether Abraham could recognize an impostor. -

Get`em while they`re young! (JWs, this is for you)
by Hellrider inshe is only 17, and she is having a "bible study" (watchtower indoctrination program) with a jehovahs witness-woman.
and, after chatting a bit with her here, i can easily see in her posts that she is a very young, naive girl, who knows little about religion, the bible, and probably life in general.
she is probably brainwashed beyond hope allready.

I got baptized as a JW at 12; I knew someone who was baptized at 8. The WT study from today showed a girl about that age being baptized, as an EXAMPLE.
Unconscionable. -

Drowning in Literature
by 5thGeneration in.
if i hadn't thrown out most of the books, mags, brochures and bound volumes i've accumulated over the decades, i swear i would need to build an addition on my house and call it the "literature wing"!.

Lone Ranger, that is me, Debbie Harry, in my current reincarnation. I am now a redhead and that was taken of me earlier this year.
I think my mind just broke.
...
I'm over it. Never mind.

Gods organisation here on Earth
by Dr Jekyll inok so we all know that the faithful and discrete slave class claim to be gods organisation here on earth and that they claim that a god of order would have an organisation to organise his followers but can anyone pull a scripture of of their hat that proves that god doesn't need an organisation here on earth?

Cool.. nice stuff. I noticed a lot of stuff in the Jehovah's Witness bible is contraditing. Anyone come up on stuff like that? It just makes me question myself somewhat
I don't think it's really any more inherently contradicting than any other Bible. There are many threads on this board that analyze the New World Translation, I encourage you to search for them (I don't have links handy.) They boil down to this, though: There are a couple of verses here and there changed to emphasize or deemphasize one doctrine or another (John 1:1 changed to deemphasize the Trinity, for example, though the NWT is not the only book with that wording), and they added the name "Jehovah" to the New Testament where it wasn't originally. Overall though there isn't a huge amount to criticize in that Bible.

Does items considered part of the "Occult" still scare you?
by free2beme inif i met you and you saw that i wear a pentagram and often speak about tarot and rune, and mention how i do magick and you saw that i have a wiccan calender on my wall and there are statues around my house of gargoyles, dragons, and other things no good witness would be caught dead with.
would you be okay with this or does your mind still see these items as demons?
i a an adult, i can accept people being judgemental of these items and i do come to expect it, especially with my own personal background in the religion.

I feel that they are another form of self-delusion, with no more basis in fact and reality and falsifiable proofs than Christianity. I am attempting to escape from self-delusion already, and seeing material proof that there are many other forms and that they are utterly capable of pulling people in makes me ask myself the frightening question: "Could I be reeled in again?"

Her exact comments were, "I don't know why I didn't leave sooner!”
Well, she got one thing right, anyways.

Similar to Finally-Free, I cannot with certainty say that I wouldn't have developed these things elsewhere, but for what it's worth, I think that being a Witnesses made me:
* Completely free from racism
* Unafraid of hard work
* Able to open a Bible instantly to any passage
* Patient with hard luck cases and people otherwise having a rough time
* An excellent public speaker
And as the original poster indicated, I can see straight through any cult, like a laser.
It's impossible to say what I would have been like in an alternate dimension without Witnesses. Being a Witness has made me who I am; and I like who I am. Not all people feel this way and some have had absolutely horrific times, and I don't mean to minimize those people's experiences. I was relatively lucky. -

Did you ever "Feel" God's Holy Spirit upon you?
by JH in.
sometimes when i pray or when i want to talk to god, reason with him, and i make a long prayer and intense one, i feel some kind of power guiding my words, even surprising myself with what i say.

I thought I did once, but it turned out to be diarrhea. hehe j/k...
I can honestly say that I never ever ever experienced any of the more "mystical" aspects of JWdom or even religion for that matter. I have never had a spiritual experience in my life. -

What gets you "High"
by JH ini'm not talking about dope.
what makes you naturally "high"?
music will do it for me.

I don't really get natural highs or lows either for that matter. I used to be really depressed and have some symptoms of type b bipolar, and I decided it was time to get off the roller coaster. I've been better off since. I am generally happy these days.
As far as what I enjoy--let's see... gardening, computer games, my kids, research and reading (feeding the beast, I call it.)
