Did the elders ever blackmail you with dead loved ones?
by Fleshybirdfodder inthis is kind of a sensitive subject for me, but i had to get it off my chest.
when i was eighteen my father died suddenly of a heart attack, and i started drifting from depression.
i wasn't doing anything wrong, i was just in shock and started really questioning my beliefs.

congregations disbanded
by Fleshybirdfodder innot sure if it is the correct terminology, but i've heard of a few instances where the society had to step in and completely "delete" a congregation because of issues with incompetent elders and out of control publishers.
i've never heard specifics.
does this actually happen?

What did you say to your teachers?
by Fleshybirdfodder inremember the first school year your parents passed the torch on to you and you had to talk to your teachers about opening exercises and holidays and such?
did you just give them the school brochure?
did you have a speech prepared?

Serving with a date in mind.
by Fleshybirdfodder inmy parents had a "feeling" that the end would come in october 1994. i have no clue what this was based on, but i remember this was preceeded by other "feelings" about when the end would come that didn't materialize.
i guess they just did it to get keep the feeling of urgency since the end was "just around the corner".
my dad was an elder and i don't remember anyone making a stink about it when he voiced his ideas in service... just a big hearty chuckle all around with a "you may be right!

A wedding UNinvitation... please help me before I flip
by Fleshybirdfodder ini just got of the phone with my younger brother and i am angered to the point of apoplexy.
he was planning on going to a wedding of an old close friend of his accompanied by my mom (an active witless still), but happened to check an email address he doesn't use frequently anymore.
surprise!

What did your worldly friends think?
by Fleshybirdfodder inat around 19 years of age i started dating a "worlding" girl and brought her to meetings to get the elders off my back (to no avail of course... i was "marked").
needless to say word got out and some of my other friends decided to check out some of the meetings.
one of my closest friends who had been to many church services (he is a gifted musician and played organ at his church and several others) came to a theocratic ministry school/service meeting.

Double Standards with Liberal Witness Friends
by Fleshybirdfodder ini'm sure this may have been covered, but many ex witnesses i know that have not been formally df'd or dissasociated thenselves still retain some friends among witnesses.
any friends i have for the most part that are still in the org are really congenial people, until it comes down to any discussion that might teeter on the edge of being remotely deep.
i've had one friend i hadn't seen in a while who came to visit me tell me right off the bat that we were not to "discuss religion", because i'm "too smart" and he "he won't be able to argue" with me.
