The congregation that my family and I are zoned to attend (if we went to the Kingdom Hall) are supposed to be building a Kingdom Hall right within walking distance of my house. They have purchased the land and the building on it. The building is an old run down place. The witnesses use it for a place to meet for field service. They have to use it for some type of religious meeting place for tax reasons.
They have yet to build a Kingdom Hall on the property and they've purchased it about 3 years ago. I guess that the growth is happening like they thought that it would. Now they are holding onto the property and the run down house on it for whatever reason.

My Kingdom Hall is near extinction!!
by RULES & REGULATIONS inour kingdom hall was started in 1973 with only 3 families totaling 13 people.it grew to 85 members in the early 90's and that's because many were related to these 3 families.with older members dying, the young leaving when they reach 18, 5 divorces and many disfellowshipped, the congregation is down to 26 members.talk about low morale.
where is jehovah's blessing now?

History Channel on Cults...
by james_woods indid anybody else get to watch that two-hour presentation last night on history channel on dangerous cults?
an excellent program, imho.. i thought it was a real eye-opener on several fronts.. first, they made the particular point of the general similarity of many cults: commonality included such things as the disturbed self-appointed messianic visionary founder (i.e.
jim jones, applegate, charlie manson, david koresh, the pseudo-mormon polygamy guy, and such), the die-hard belief in an apocylptic prophecy, the manipulation of the followers by thought control (brainwashing) techniques, sexual control or manipulation of the followers, monetary exploitation of the followers, the desire to make the followers look ridiculous to normal persons, the tendency to create communes and to isolate the followers from society, the belief that certain of the cult activities are in fact in fulfillment of eschatological prophecy and are thus "helping" to bring about the collapse of society, .

I watched it last night. I remember a lot of those cults and I also remembering the Watchtower Society speaking about them in their literature. I plan on watching it again. It was surely worth watching!

Possible Police Reunion?
by freedom96 inafter 20 years, there is some talk of a possible reunion for the police, including sting.. they are going to do something to celebrate 30 years after roxanne came out, and apparently there are discussions of more!

i will for sure, for memories and history!

That would be great if those guys got back together again to kick around another tour! If the Rolling Stones who are as old as the earth itself can still tour, then The Police would be great!!

Jehovah's Witnesses and Racism
by karnage ini have been wondering and trying to find some information into whether the wtbs has ever played the race game.
when i see pictures of the society of old, all i see is white people.
i don't see any blacks, asians, hispanic, or mixed (black and white or whatever) couples.

Since the WTBS was also around during the turbulent times of racial uprisings, I wanted to know if there is anything out there where the society practiced segragation and then changed their mind about it (like they do about anything and everything else). I guess that you can say that I find it hard to believe that the JW's were that revolutionary in welcoming people of all races to worship together in the early years and then some.

YOU "THINK" YOU KNOW.....BUT...YOU DON'T KNOW!!
by Terry inthe door to door work is a sham.. the central activity of the watchtower bible and tract society is not spreading their so-called "messege" about the kingdom of jehovah established in the heavens in 1914. that's a load of propaganda.. the door to door activity is feckless in producing converts.
in fact, it is an immense failure of mammoth proportions!.
but, it is a diversion.

I was discussing some of these very same points to my wife just the other day. If they Witnesses were trying to gain more people into the organization, then something like community events or a hospital would surely get them some attention. But instead, they do nothing. They would rather ambush you at a gas station or super market (Parking Lot Witnessing) into present the Watchtower and Awake magazines. I don't get it all. It doesn't make any sence to me.
Terry, you are on to something brother! Just where does all of that money that the WTBS gains goes? Great questions! -

Baptism and At What Age?
by karnage ini have seen and noticed that most people who are raised as jw's get baptized at a young age.
ages like 14-19. how is it that someone can dedicate their life to jehovah at these ages, when maturity is still in development?
this seems to be something that jw's push and practice on a regular basis.

My sister was baptized at 14 or 15, soon after that... she was having sex in the back seat of cars, smoking and God knows what else. She is now DF'd and living with her partner (she's a lesbian). I remember her ramping up her studies and pressing hard towards baptism because her associates were all doing it and she liked a Ministerial Servant in the congregation.
She regrets thinking it out a little more. -

You wouldn't let someone get married at those ages, then why would anyone let them get baptized at these ages? No wonder why the disfellowshipping numbers are so high. I'm not bashing anyone who got baptized at a young age, it is just something that boggles my mind.
I stopped studying for baptism at 18 years old. I am glad that I didn't make that step. What age did any of you get baptized and why did you do it? -

Confessing to the elders...
by tan inhas anyone ever had to confess their sins to the elders...left out some of the details or "other gross" sins...but wondered if you were truly forgiven of your sins?
or was reproved and given back your priviledges but knew that you didn't tell everything.
how did you feel afterward?
-

First of all, there is no forgiveness. Second, who in their right mind would just approach the elders and confess to anything?!
