Did u convert to JW because u were ignorant, arrogant or some other reason?
by jwfacts into believe the watchtower story takes a high degree of arrogance.
to think you were so special that god drew you to his organization for salvation.
but 6 billion other humans deserve destruction, is placing huge value on your own importance.. if you converted to being a jw do you think you were sucked in because you did not know the full story (ignorance) or was it because you really wanted to believe you were more special than everyone else (arrogance)?

I was dragged by my mother into the JWs as a child. My mother grew up in Europe during WWII and suffered some terrible experiences then. I strongly feel that she joined the JWs because they offered a "haven" of security, certainty, and friendship, all of which had been lacking in her life up to then. I don't think she was arrogant or ignorant, just lonely and frightened.

Eliminate bathroom time and waste by requiring adult diapers for everybody (bring your own, of course).

The back door to my house makes a distinctive sound when it's opened. A few years ago, while I was upstairs and alone in the house, I heard the back door open. I ran downstairs but no one was there. This happened frequently over the next week--I'd hear the back door open, but when I went downstairs, no one there. I was getting frantic; I didn't know if it was a neighbor kid playing practical jokes or something more sinister.
The riddle was solved a few weeks later as I sat in the kitchen drinking coffee. My parrot sat on his perch next to me and was going through his morning repertoire of whistles, songs, and phrases, when suddenly he exactly duplicated the sound of the back door opening! I started laughing me head off. Every time I had run downstairs in response to this sound, I had inadvertently been giving the parrot a positive reinforcement for making the sound. Sound = attention from owner. When I stopped responding to the sound, he soon stopped making it.
I hope your problem is as easy to solve. -

Would I really want to be in the "new world" anyway...
by hartstrings inthis morning in the shower i was thinking about why it is that jw's preaching (like i used to do) about a paradise with no wickedness really bothers me.
if jw's are right and god is going to destroy the majority of people so that just those who happened to live at the right time, in the right place, etc.
can live forever with a couple of men telling me, a woman what to do, no thanks.

There was a sister in my cong that really gave me the creeps. She was malicious, cunning, and somehow disturbing. I could never quite put my finger on it, but she wasn't quite right. Just before I left the JWs, my last prayer to God went like this: "Dear Jehovah, if it's really your will that I must choose either to die or to live forever with the likes of Sister ---, then all I've got to say is, 'Strike me down now!' Amen."
I meant it then, and I mean it now. -

In spite of the constant trumpeting of their "resurrection hope," the JWs I knew didn't bear up better than anyone else when a loved one was sick or dying. In some cases, I believe they had a tougher time because they were expected to demonstrate their hope to the world by keeping up a "brave" front. Being a JW does not inoculate one against life's traumas.
From your description, it sounds like your friend is suffering as much from the JWs' empty comforts as from her personal tragedy. Although you feel responsible for some of her pain, I believe it's just unfortunate timing that her understanding about the JWs was not followed quickly enough by her leaving the org. She's caught in the middle at a very painful point, but I don't believe that's your fault. And I'll bet she doesn't believe it's your fault, either.
The only bit of advice I can offer your friend is to do whatever she feels necessary to get her through this trial. As for the comfort of belief in an afterlife, I've never seen anyone, even JWs, eager to die to get to that afterlife. Even for believers, death is still an open question. None of us really knows for certain. Personally, I find comfort in that uncertainty. After the suffocating confines of JW certainty, a little uncertainty can be reassuring. -

Contacting the "other side"
by sinis ini find it very interesting that the bible and mythology are very close, when speaking about god.
also the statement made by god in the bible to worship no other god but him, in effect saying that there are others gods.
has anyone actually looked into the occult, for lack of a better word, and actually made contact with an entity?

***Has anyone actually looked into the occult, for lack of a better word, and actually made contact with an entity?***
Anyone who has ever prayed to God has attempted to make contact with an entity. No different from a seance, casting a circle, entering a trance -- all are attempts to contact and comprehend divinity. -

Breeze,
***Just stop it and get onto doing something positive with your life.***
Why do you assume there is nothing positive about talking about the WTS? Many people here have said this forum has contributed greatly to their getting out of JWs and has helped them through the inevitable rocky aftermath of departure. Do you think they're lying? Do you think they're deluded? Do you think? -

I'll never forget the elder who used to clap his hand over his screaming toddler's mouth and nose to stop his screaming -- and breathing -- until he carried him downstairs and then beat the living daylights out of him.

What is your town or area's claim to fame?
by free2beme inevery where you live, the local area has something about it that is either famous for something good or something bad.
as an example, you go to one town and it may have the historial site of a famous war battle.
you go to another an it might be the place something was invented, or the birthplace of someone famous.
