***I say the bitterness is directly proportional to the amount of emotional committment we made to their teachings.***
I'm 27 years out after 14 years in. I was never really committed to the JW ideology, and when I left I was happy to forget about it.
But earlier this year, I started researching the JWs on the internet for the first time. I always thought I had a rough time with the JWs, but when I started reading about how much worse it was for so many others, I finally found my anger. It seems wrong to me now to turn my back on my JW past when so many continue to suffer from the WTS lies.
I don't know how this fits with your theory, but am I angry? Hell, yes!

Am I angry? Hell, yes!
by Fatfreek inwhy are departing jw's bitter?
i say the bitterness is directly proportional to the amount of emotional committment we made to their teachings.
if we accepted them wholeheartedly, the bitterness was immense as we discovered the lies and coverups, while getting the blame on the missed date predictions, and seeing the ever-increasing legalistic structure of the society, not to even mention the shunning by loved ones who still remain.

How many 'real" friends did you ever really have in ther "truth'
by The Lone Ranger insure we got to know a lot of people, we knew a lot more people then the average person, but how many real friends did we ever have?
a friend that we could trust, that we could confine in.
i can say i had just one, bro x and even then i still had to be careful, bro x is an elder now and he tells me that im the only real friend hes ever had, he cant freely talk to anyone.

One. She left the JWs at the same time I did, though for a different reason. We've been friends for almost 40 years. She's one in a million, a true "sister."

Dune, you are the MAN!!! True, you caught some flak for doing the right thing, but the knowledge that you helped stop an abuser should carry you through it. In time, your friend will realize you took the only course worth taking. You are the MAN!!!

JWs have a misguided belief that Jehovah will protect them during FS and Bible studies.
I remember as a young teenage girl, I often went into rundown apartment buildings alone to place magazines. None of the adults in my car group ever expressed any reservations about this or any concerns for my safety.
Looking back now, I realize I was extremely lucky. This elderly couple were not as lucky.
What they experienced was reprehensible and uncalled-for, but all JWs should realize that unrestricted contact with the public carries risk. -

PRAYING.... Is it the answer to eating disorders?
by Gill ini found that the article on 'young popele ask....do i have an eating disorder?
' in the awake magazine for october 2006 to have worrying advice in it.. apparantly the answer to this problem, according to the wtbts is prayer!
how did psychiatrists miss this for so long?.

Many eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa and bulimia, may be psychiatric in nature, but that fact does not mean these disorders should not be taken seriously. I've seen stick-thin patients whose idea of a huge snack was to paste a dot of peanut butter on a corn flake. Many of these patients die.
Several years ago I worked for a hospital review board whose function was to evaluate new medical studies that involve human participants.
At one meeting, a research proposal for a new treatment for anorexia nervosa was dicussed. The proposed experimental treatment involved a moderate degree of risk for the patient. At first the board was hesitant to approve a relatively risky treatment for a psychiatric disorder. But when several pediatric and psychiatric M.D.s reminded the others that the condition has a VERY HIGH RATE OF MORTALITY, the board approved it unanimously.
For the WTS to advocate prayer first and medical treatment as a last resort for eating disorders is criminal. Such advice will cause, and almost certainly has already caused, needless deaths. -

For the sake of the children, don't throw in the towel too soon. Sometimes after the "honeymoon" period wears off (a year sounds about right), the character traits that used to amuse now annoy. If the two of you can't resolve your problems, you might want to consider marriage counseling.

I bet they could make a pretty penny selling off those wheels and axels. If I recall my medieval history correctly, the Catholic church did very well selling off about a gazillion relics of the cross. It's amazing what people are willing to buy (in every sense of the word).

Sorcery is a Viable Pioneer Recruiting Technique
by KennyC in"good sense stress", was the description of an elder for a circuit overseer's undue emphasis on the words "the children are helping mommy and daddy to...pioneer.... yes".
he said this during a talk of his in the early 1990's.
upon going to a pioneer meeting on that saturday and seeing him first hand using his hands in a circular motion around a pioneers face who was sitting too close in front of him, he stated "did you ever notice that little glow they have?

***I have stated for years (and I'm certainly not alone) that dubs are among the most superstitious religious freaks around.***
A few years ago, my sister told me about the "haunted" house her husband grew up in (he believes it; so does she). During this narration, my JW mother kept whispering in terror, ".....demons.....demons......demons....." I kept turning open-mouthed in disbelief from one to the other. It was like being an extra in "The Exorcist." -

I tried to donate immediately following 9/11, but a medication I was taking made me ineligible. I wasn't trying to be defiant, just trying to help.

***Now they shun my husband and I also. But guess what? That part I have no problem with.***
You're right, Quandry. The only way to avoid problems with elders is to get away from them. The bunch in your cong were perverts! It's no wonder that the few elders that are decent men don't stay long in the org.
