Perhaps it will be an announcement of a reprint of the Revelation book. After all how can a publication full of outdated doctrine regarding the UN and end times be studied all over again. Just a thought...

Thanks for holding the door.... *** SMACK ***
by Elsewhere inyesterday something happened that really pissed me off.
i was walking out of a store that has two doors you have to walk through... the inner door and the outer door.
basically a small foyer.. as i'm going through the inner door i notice a woman is behind be so i go on through and hold the door for her... she went right on through without a word and then went through the outer door, pushed it open and then let it fly back into my face.

I love it and always thank the holder. I assume that whomever is at the door first will hold it and LOVE to hold the door for men. Some become so flustered. Always hold it for older people.
I recently had a man apologize for holding the door because he assumed that I might not LIKE it. He explained that this is how he was raised in the south... I told him, "No apology necessary. I appreciate it".

What charitable works have you done?
by anewme inthe watchtower society is notorious for discouraging the brethren from performing acts of kindness and charity towards people of the world, claiming in their literature it is a waste of time or worse the funds may be absconded.
(see awake of this year "what is happening to charity?
today was 109 degrees in our town.

I volunteer at the local soup kitchen twice per month. After hurricane Katrina, I directly gave an acquaintance money because she was caring for her displaced family members who became separated during the evacuation. Because I did that in a group setting, everyone had to pony up!
I might add that as far as appearances go, I am still a Witness in good standing.

How about an elder's wife, just entering grad school? I am loving that, because this wife is MY daughter! They just say that it is their business. I hope they get enough grief and pressure about it that their priorities change, if you know what I mean...

Did u convert to JW because u were ignorant, arrogant or some other reason?
by jwfacts into believe the watchtower story takes a high degree of arrogance.
to think you were so special that god drew you to his organization for salvation.
but 6 billion other humans deserve destruction, is placing huge value on your own importance.. if you converted to being a jw do you think you were sucked in because you did not know the full story (ignorance) or was it because you really wanted to believe you were more special than everyone else (arrogance)?

Ignorant, young and idealistic...
The doctrines made a lot more sense in the early 70's, when everything was possible! I was 18 and loving the racial equality, unity and love of the organization. I wanted a spiritual connection and didn't see another religion that made more sense (because nothing makes ANY sense). I was obedient and submissive and certainly wouldn't read ANY of that "apostate" literature. I still believe that living by Bible principles is the best way to live... but the organizational "laws" and garbage attached to JW's is a different thing all together. My heart is OUT, now I have to fade the rest of me!

BLOOD ON THEIR HANDS Twisting a life-affirming law into death
by Terry inturning a life affirming rule into a death-dealing policy is an amazing accomplishment.
we can thank the watchtower society for a mindset which makes this possible.. i've gone into great detail before about the watchtower blood policy itself.
it is a blatant and deliberate publicity stunt which takes the rather simple prohibitions of the laws of noah for gentiles on murder .

"The jw's will never ever recant this policy on blood, too many people have died to date, to make any changes at this state of the game. They know any changes could and would fracture their power base to crumbles. Don't ever expect new light to appear on this subject matter because it never will. "
The above quote from a poster on this thread would be my thinking as well. However, just last evening, I had a fascinating conversation with a young elder who is also a good friend. I believe that he may be on the brink of "eldership" as he is quite assuredly "out of the box". I initiated a conversation about blood, knowing his viewpoint. When I stated that the minute he accepted a blood transfusion, he would be on the track to "dfing". He said, not so, that no one is df'd for accepting blood. He also claimed that the org will never publicly state that. He did say that the elder book says says it is a personal decision. Hmmmmm... I am baffled. My comment was that it will never be made as a public comment because there will be a mass exodus from the org due to all the lives sacrificed by refusing blood over the years.
What DOES the elder book say?

I need advice re: monthly field service report
by under_believer ini stopped going out in service about a year ago.
just couldn't take it anymore.
after that, i still continued "studying" with my kids and "counting the time" for that.

Are we all suffering here? I stay with the meetings and field service time to support my wonderful daughter. So today, my/her bookstudy we had the visit of the service overseer. YIKES! I fogot that they hand out the service cards for personal review and meditation... Now, I have the dilemma of daughters pressure to participate in the ministry on Saturday with the service overseer or fake illness. I don't think I have turned in more than 2 hours/month in the past year. Prior to reading the responses here, I had decided that April was the final month for turning in time, but now what? I could go out, waste time, and NOT COUNT IT! That could be interesting.
My daughter is a Witness due to my fine example and training. I should mention that her husband is an elder, a liberal one at that. I feel that I owe her/them the support. But what will they feel when they find out that, for years now, I have only been there for her? Some day soon, I hope the sham is over. 2 years ago, I thought I had attended my last district convention and here we are again...
At least we know that we aren't suffering alone!

The fact that this happens in "Jehovah's clean organization", is so disappointing. We have learned a new British word? "Snogging" The context is rather easy to sort out but care to define?

Are you far too trusting in other people?
by Elsewhere ini'm afraid i am.
it is in my nature to expect everyone to act in the best interests of everyone else.
i never expect that others will intentionally cause harm to another in a willfull and malisious act.

Far better to have trusted and been burned than to have never trusted.
I may well be the most trusting soul to be found. I tend to agree that there are far more caring and honest people in the world than otherwise. Yes I have been burned BUT those times can be counted on one hand. This cannot be attributed to youth as I am not at all young (young at heart, though), People, in general, are not as bad as JW's would paint them! I believe that my trusting soul has contributed to my happiness in life and I will continue to believe that. A cynic cannot enjoy the same happiness. It is hard work sleeping, "with one eye open".

Double Standards?
by OpenFireGlass intalk about a dysfunctional family life.... did anyone else experience growing up in a dub family that had a double standard for siblings?.
my younger sister was allowed too: have new kids on the block posters on her wall, as well as gotten taken to a nkotb concert... have & play a keyboard.
pick her own music, & have a boom box in her room.

The best advice you have received is, "just let go". Life goes on and all parents make mistakes. They, no doubt have regrets, too. "Back in the day", JW parents had tremendous pressure to oppress their children and discipline them physically AND harshly. Move on, my friend and don't let the past keep you from enjoying today and tomorrow.
