Am I an "apostate"?

Relating to Non-JW's
by LucidSky ini read the "ex-witness singles" thread and it seems like a good idea.
the thought has crossed my mind many times before since non-jw's often don't seem to care or understand.
i would love being able to relate on something that has played such an important part of your lives (uh, understated - something your world is supposed to revolve around.

As a non-jw who was befriended by a JW, it's true that I was in a situation where I could never have understood the "this is okay, that's not okay" mentality. I didn't understand the rules, it was that simple. I probably would still be stumbling around in the dark if I hadn't heard one too many crazy comments and decided to start poking around for answers on my own. Yes, now I have a better understanding of what's taboo and what's not. I understand that there can be anxiety related to certain activities/people/things. I have a much better grasp of the situation though it's absolutely unlike anything I've ever experienced.
But when I read things- hateful, ugly things- in their articles about me (a worldly one) and more so about people who are far finer individuals than I am (yes, and worldly, imagine that), well, I can't even begin to explain how it felt when I first read that stuff.
Here I was, not thinking too much about witnesses, but boy- were they ever devoting time thinking about me (not personally, of course). And they weren't thinking such nice things! It blew me away.
I'll probably be talking to my JW friend within the week (after very sporadic contact over the past few months). I tried pretty hard to understand a belief system and a thought pattern that was completely foreign to me. I don't think my friend really, fully extended that same courtesy to me. I know I shouldn't be surprised, but in some ways I am. It's about time to have it out with my friend, just to say the painful things and move past them. Not looking forward to it, though.

Options
by openminded inyou are driving along on a wild and stormy night.
you pass by a bus stop, and you see three people huddled on a bench, waiting for the bus: .
1. an old woman who looks as if she is dying.

See? This is why I don't do well on these ethical dilemmas. I wanted to grab my soulmate and stick the old lady in the trunk. Screw the friend who saved my life- he's a hero, he can deal with a little rain!

I have a question--Surviving Armageddon
by Tammie inok, i have a hipothectical question.
i have had this thought going through my head for some time now.. now i know some beleive in armageddon and others well they don't.
but let's take this route just for the heck of it.

well, I think it would be incredibly awkward for them particularly if, say, the survival rate in no way reflected that witnesses had the "truth". For example, for every witness who survived, ten non-witnesses survived. Imagine the bummed out feeling they'd have as they sat there realizing that- whether they liked it or not- there was still diversity in the world after armageddon. As our poor witness survivor gathers twigs with his Catholic counterpart, he'll have an eternity to wonder why god made him go door to door every saturday and let a Catholic (or Baptist or Buddhist) survive armageddon without a beautiful Saturday squandered.

Joel's post made me wonder how much people paid for magazines to place? Anyone want to give an estimate on how much you spent (just to leave them in a closet or garage or donut shop)?

How to get someone out?
by Hyghlandyr ini am seeking information on stories of those who have assisted relatives or friends out of the organization.
particularly i would like books, or websites, or personal experiences, suggestions on step by step methods, to carefully present ideas to those who are staunchly pro jw, without alienating them further.
i am especially interested in situations in which a df person was able to finally break down the barriers.

I also want to mention Steven Hassan's second book "Releasing the Bonds: Empowering people to think for themselves". Lots of suggestions in that book!

I'm not actually suggesting that anything even remotely inappropriate resulted from the pranks but I would like to point out that if you substitute the title elder with priest, more than a few eyebrows would be raised.
Just another point of view.

Love that last story there. I'm not really sure I see the mythic quality of it though.
A woman gets followed and harassed on a bus? Yeah, so? If he was following her and harassing only because she was a witness then she must have been butt ugly because there isn't a woman I know who can't name their own personal horror story of harassment- particularly if they take public transportation.
Getting harassed by a crazy person on a bus. What a surprise, Opie.

JW email poetry....<gag>

This stunning poetry reminds me of a quote I pulled off the old greatcrowd site.
Taking anyone from the world is settling for not even 2nd best, and isn't worth it.
It's amazing how someone can couch their words of bigotry and hate in a piss poor rhyme scheme and actually pretend it's art. -

JWs and Blood Transfusions
by MavMan inthese are some excellent links for those that are investigating the pros and cons of blood transfusions.
the bloodless medicine & surgery institute .
the nj institute for the advancement of bloodless medicine and surgery .

Again you miss the point, yoyo.
You are trying to derail the validity of the argument against watchtower blood policy by doing two things:
1)saying that blood transfusions will not necessarily save lives
2)by saying that witness refusal to have transfusions has contributed to modern medicines exploration of blood alternativesBoth points, unfortunately, are irrelevent to the concern over watchtower policy.
You have admitted that:
*there are no blood fractions in the bible
And yet you would have us believe that some blood parts, after fractioning, are no longer blood. At the same time, some blood parts after being fractioned remain "blood" and are therefore unacceptable to God.
Just a reminder... there are no blood fractions in the bible.
So, Mavman, why does God want hemophiliacs to live but Leukemia patients to die?
