a bethel insider in the know told me that all of the child abuse lawsuits where the watchtower bible and tract society was one of the defendants were settled back in the beginning of this year.

i questioned it and called napa myself and they were absolutely settled back then.

Well that's all the WTS ever tells us is "wait, wait, wait" and nothing ever happens. What are we waiting for???? Come on Danny, give us something to munch on.

many of us were trembling when we first happened upon this site.

one new poster, calls herself snowbird, just revealed that she's been lurking(reading without posting) here for 7 years!.

It was about 2-3 months before I made my first post. I spent that time reading up on what was going on and familiarizing myself with how the site worked etc.

It wasn't an issue for me to post. I didn't have any second thoughts whatsoever. I only choose to reply to threads that are of interest to me at the time so I don't post often.

i questioned it and called napa myself and they were absolutely settled back then.

This is an important victory for all those that oppose the WTS. The sheer scale if the settlement and the number of people involved makes covering it up tenious at best. Word will get out. I am glad that the victims were able to get something out of it and can now work on building/rebuilding their lives.

The only problem is now the WTS can say that they settled to prevent the victims a long and emotionally draining trial. They can very easily put a positive spin on the decision to settle thus the rank and file can be given a "credible" (I use the term loosely) alternate view than the ones being expressed here. I fear that it won't make a real difference in the numbers. For a real shock wave to sweep the org a victory in court is necessary.

Somehow, somewhere a victim will come forward with a damaging case and be willing to press forward in court and get the victory we all desire to see.

ANOTHER 200 Scientists Document Global Climate Change - Yo Deniers!

another international slate of scientists have released their findings regarding global climate change and human's effect on that (see the above link).. after the last major study released by several hundred scientists a few months ago, it does seem there is a serious concensus here among the leading thinkers and scientists on this issue.

i know i've banged heads with a few who disagree with this, but it does seem as though that handful of folks who disagree with the science are looking more and more like deniers, as in holocaust deniers, moon landing deniers, etc.. in other words, out there on the lunatic fringe.. so, do you folks think it might be time to reconsider?.

I cannot recall another period in human history in which we destroyed more forest than we do now.

It's strictly a suspicion on my part but when you pump billions of tons of CO2 into the air if we still had most of our forrests they would act to balance it out but we lose an area the size of the Netherlands every year to deforestation they can no longer do the job as effectively as they once did.

We are always going to have natural heating and cooling cycles but when you compound that with centuries of abuse it disrupts nature's efforts to repair the dammage.

The Thames was once so polluted that it was considered dead. Now thanks to the massive clean up effort life has again return to this river. If earth is the Thames then we haven't yet seen life depart from the river but if the analogy holds true it will happen one day.

i'm especially interested in any investigations by j. edgar hoover.

have there been any foia requests done of the fbi about investigations of the jw's or their leader(s)?

IT did say on anoher website the FBI has 20,000 iles on jws(the website was an worldconspiracy site!)

Yeah for that reason I'd prefer to get the answer straight from the horses mouth. Does it cost $ to file a Freedom of Information request?

Not that I want to appear as if I am defending this but this thought came to me as I was reading the above posts

It's kind of a sterotypical image but what does a guy do when he wants to meet a girl on the beach, borrows his friend's dog. The thought being that you do what you have to to get noticed and break the ice. In fact I wouldn't be suprised if some pubs have tried that before. Walking down the street on a nice day, the dog gets noticed and as you start a cconversation with the stranger it becomes so easy to segue right into the kingdom....

Ok, that's enough now.

many Law enforcement officials ears perk up, when you talk to them about Theocratic warfare strategy (lying in court).

I'm sure they do but I don't think it's quite a shock because it's done all the time in politics, business etc. You never let on more than you have to. It's simple "political expediency" so to speak.

A file on CO's in 1949? The Korean war didn't start till 1950 and WW2 was over for 4 years. They must have had files from before/during the war. I would suspect that Hoover would have them investigated if for no other reason than they were accused of treason during the first war. He was in the Justice Dept during that time, it's even possible he heard of the case.

do not call to update the records.

a group of brothers will be assigned to check on these by telephone.".

Oy! Does this mean there were pubs going to the door to check on DNC's in the past when it was only supposed to be the elders? tsk tsk. I know in my cong we would never have done that. It was written right on our territory cards not to call on DNC's if i remember correctly.

Geeze with so many "obedient" followers it sure is hard to enforce policy eh?

Anyone seen a Memorial talk outline?

if i remember correctly, someone last year posted the memorial talk outline a week or so before the memorial.. does anyone have access to this year's outline?

i'm curious because of the new wt article that basically backs away from teaching that the 144,000 were all chosen by 1935. i'd like to see how it is mentioned in this year's talk because, as we all know, the memorial talk is more about the anointed and how they alone partake than it is about jesus..

Of course it won't stop the "idiots" that independently decide to stop by anyway, or don't pay attention to the DNC slip in the territory, or the slip gets lost, or the "publisher" misunderstands which house to skip.

It also won't stop the predictable "We just wanted to see if you still felt the same way" calls. It's my understanding that the elders are required to call on DNC's every so often just to judge if they still have a closed mind so to speak
