  while talking with mom(active dub) this morning, i said " aren't you glad i was never baptised so you can still talk and have a mother son relationship'?

  her response shocked me in that she said it wouldn't matter your still my son.

  and she would be able to talk with me, just cannot discuss the jw religion.. i was always under the impression you would be shunned for the rest of your life, unless you went through the chain of command for reinstatement.

  Ahh, quite timely indeed. We are approaching our one-year anniversary of freedom. Since then I have had only one conversation with my mother, in short I asked her to please clarify here previous statement (8-months prior) when she called me Satanic. Have not spoken since (if there is a god insert thanks now). About 5 weeks ago there was a ‘local needs’ part given in all the surrounding Halls stating very clearly that family does not come first, let the shunning begin. The next day my wife’s parents turned off like a light as well as other DF’ed friends of our families all got the shunning on the same day. Oh its official that the family is dead last if they are not towing the Dub line.

  There is a KM article that specifically states that they should shun family members, I will find the date when I get home and post it.

  how many of you were required to give up a certain career you had in order to become a jw or before you could be baptised?.

  help here in naming all the job positions and careers that dubs are not allowed to have and the scriptural reason for it.

  detail if possible.. can a jw be a mortician?.

  Statistically it will be skewed I agree, so peace on that point.

  If you compare the number of responses to this post to the number of views you will see that within this "death to the bOrg" environment fewer endorse this type of story than one would expect. So the population I am sampling, this board, appears to be more representative of the general population, rather than just a bunch of ex-JW.

  Who here would like to see, if possible, a news story by a somewhat national news firm? Specifically dealing with individuals constitutional rights (i.e. which comes first, the rights of the church or the rights of the person). Sorry I must remain vague on the who’s’, what’s’ and when’s’. I hope to show that there is a large body of interest out there and that a story along these lines would "sell".

  So please post a quick comment if you would watch something on this subject, even a single word of acknowledgement. I plan on giving this as a link to a friend, so your participation is important.

  Additionally if any of you are currently involved in any other discussion boards please feel free to ask a similar question and put a link here to the question. The more the merrier.

  every cong has them, the petty dictators who make up arbitrary rules and insist that the rank and file follow them or pay the penalty.

  a couple mine had - sisters could not have skirts that were either too short (above the knee) or too long, below the mid-calf - either extreme was worldly.

  also, in order to have privileges (cause there were so many wonderful and fulfilling things for women in the borg) sisters must wear pantyhose.

  As teenagers, "if you had prior knowledge" that someone was going to be at a "gathering" it was a date. That did not set well with my wife, she asked if CA and DA were dates because we knew each other would be there. They stopped her from Pioneering for that, amongst other BS.

  I'm new....and I have a rant

  ok, i apologize for this impromptu introduction/rant, but i am reeling right now and really have no where elso to turn.. let me start off by giving you a little history of what has gotten me to this point.

  this post might be a little long, so you might want to dust off those .

  reading glasses.. anyways, my parents were baptised as dubs in the pre 1975 frenzy to make it to the new system...if they only knew 30 some odd years later...suprise, we are .

  I agree completely with WOnce. If you put yourself on their radar you will get the ax dropped on your neck. So depending on the age, maturity and the depth of your relationship with your kid, could the treatment you receive by the borg give him/her some new light on what being baptized means. That is to say if you only request that this issue not be pushed until your kid is older, a simple request, and you get DF’ed how will your kid perceive this? Having three of our own we have gladly ‘taken the bullet’ so our kids are not in a cult. Play your cards right (including recording the JC meetings, where single party consent allows) and you can allow your kid to see what actually happens behind the scenes.
