"They feel 'chosen' in some special way. Could their 'wicked' actions be explained by the 'Father' that has chosen them?"
Well, it would be to reason that if Jehovah is the name of God, the "one true God", a name that the Jews regard as so holy they were/are superstitious about saying-writing it, and the WT claims to be the sole channel for his communication to men...
then the outcome is this:
they have just used the divine name in a way that mocks and 'defiles' it.
if any of the bible is true, then one can see how "Jehovah" would not be the one laughing in his own face.

How many people do you 'witness' to?
by cyberdyne systems 101 ini find these days that i'm talking to so many people about being a jw and why i am not one now, and in a sense 'giving a witness' as they would term it - only from my point of view its to say why they should avoid it.
i always say to people to ask any witnesses who call on them to ask how the animals managed to cross over the continents after the flood?
like how did the kangaroo's get back to aus?.

I'll talk about the WT to anyone who will listen (ad nauseum). I've given CoC away. I made my very own freeminds.org t-shirt,
hmmm, so if i wear that people sometimes ask what its all about...good way to start some preventitive discourse..

perhaps not always as thoroughly and systematically, but,
YES THEY DO:::
http://www.exmormon.org/mormon/mormon303.htm
" Recently we've been the target of shunning from those faithful members of the church."
"I live in Utah and I will say that this is the NORM for Mormons here. They have treated me and my family this way for 20 years and I am still the topic of gossip after all these years. It just reminds me that their hearts are cold and they are lost. I've tried to be loving and compassionate, but now have grown bitter and want nothing from them. Sorry that my first post is so negative, but I know how this feels and it is so unchristian. How can they live with themselves?"
"I live in Utah in a nearly totally Mormon community. I knew and associated with my neighbors and had a good friendship. I was told by some that they were told by the bishop to stay away from me. It's not just me taking the initiative. In fact, I did at first. It is a practice of the religion to stay away from anyone who has left the church (apostate or knows the truth)"
http://lds-mormon.com/benson.shtml
"In other Mormon circles, we have been shunned and condemned. One of our children was derided by a Mormon classmate, who said that now that we had left the church, our child would end up 'doing drugs.' Another wanted to leave his Mormon Scout troop because of icy treatment from some of the boys.
Many Mormons have branded us as liars, called us ignorant, denounced us as publicity hounds, declared us to be possessed by the devil and accused us of disloyalty to family. It has even been falsely suggested that we left the church because of sexual infidelity. Still others sent us anonymous hate mail, accusing us of committing spiritual suicide and consigning us to hell."

What "world coming to an end" dates have Born-Agains set that you know of?
by booker-t inwhen i left jw's after finding about all of the "false" dates that was set for armaggeddon, i thought that they were the only ones that did this.
but since leaving the jw's and doing 15 years of "research" on all religions i found out that jw's are not the only ones that have giving false predictions.
the christian church is also guilty of this.

Vegetarianism
by rezamichael inwhy aren't witnesses vegetarians?
it's well known that adam and eve were vegetarian.
there was only ever a concession given by god to allow meat eating after the flood as there was no vegetation so it was forced and rather a temporary fix up rather than a new permanent diet.

Hi there booker
"When I left JW's after finding about all of the "false" dates that was set for Armaggeddon, I thought that they were the only ones that did this. But since leaving the JW's and doing 15 years of "research" on all religions I found out that JW's are not the only ones that have giving false predictions. The christian church is also guilty of this. So I am just wondering why so many "ex-jws" that become bac's don't have a problem with born-agains giving false dates, but they are ready to burn JW's and the WTS at the stake for setting dates. I now condemn all groups and religions that "date set". I know alot of born-agains were saying that the year 2000 was going to be the year of the rapture. Many bac's were let down when the year came and went. So I am wondering posters do you know of any other dates that bac's predicted that failed to come to pass?"
smellsgood: The trouble with this inquiry is that the BAC's are not in any way structured like the Witnesses. If a pastor in arkansas announces to his congregation that the end will come in 2007, then perhaps some in his congregation will get worked up about it, but it won't affect many beyond his 'circle.'
The entire WT structure from the beginning, and today with the 1914-1919 nonsense, is basically founded on dates/date setting, when the end will come.
The "Christian Church" as you put it today is not a top-down structured hierarchy (excepting the RC/Catholic church), much too heterogenous, there are standout pastors with massive following, appeal, influence what have you.
you said: "So I am just wondering why so many "ex-jws" that become bac's don't have a problem with born-agains giving false dates, but they are ready to burn JW's and the WTS at the stake for setting dates."
I would think that a ex-jw would find any pastor or "organisation" that sets a date for something that does not come to pass WOULD indeed be highly sensitive to this, and from experience, not just brush it off with the whole "imperfect men" spiel. yeah....heard that one before.
Like I said, the basic premise is a little off, its a bit of an apple/orange comparison really. The "bac" do not have a single leader. I think roughly 45% or so who identify themselves in the Christian category, claim to be "born again." This being so, there is no "faithful discreet slave class" who are the "mouthpiece of Jehovah" there is no "mother organization" they don't have doctrine interpreted for them from that "fds" through an organizations publications.
If there is some nutjob pastor who loses his marbles and starts setting dates that are entirely wrong, he should be transparently called what he is at that juncture: a false prophet.
I do know of other cult leaders who set dates for armageddon. I believe David Moses of "The Family" did so back in the 70's.
http://www.sullivan-county.com/nf0/y2k/bible_ca.htm (alot of WT on there!)
Oh, yes, and Jack Van Impe does not "set dates" but he is a "just around the corner" guy. I watch his show from time to time to see what new suit Rexella is wearing. Oh, yeah *scoff* and for the "in depth, cutting analysis" of "events around the world"......
he's a strange man.
at the end of the day, I think one of the biggest ways the watchtower has gotten and retained their power is through datesetting/implying. I think the basic message that bacs believe tends to place such power more with Jesus.
