  Our Southern Friends- Are you Pissed about the Oil Spill? I Know I Am ...... !

  ......... and i live out here in northern california !

  i mean , they go to all that humungous labor, build a huge box to put over the oil gushing out and wham 5,000 ft. deep it gets clogged with ice crystals.

  now they are talking about a couple other alternatives in the news- all the while today haliburton, bp, and other reps are meeting with federal officials getting into a pissing match and fight over who is responsible for the spill ?

  Hi Flip, thanks for starting this thread.....

  I am beside myself and pissed off that the national news chains give it little coverage between Obama's new Judge pick, the idiot that couldn't blow up New York, and the Blip on Wall street last Thursday mixed in with absolute crap about celebrity golfers, dancers, singers. etc.

  This is a catastrophe that gets worse by the hour not by the day. The dispersents being sprayed are as toxic as the oil which is slowly dripping to the bottom of the ocean. Poisening the food chain.....Krill eaten by fish, eaten by larger fish, eaten by birds, not to mention the coral reefs.

  If you love shrimp, shellfish, oysters, etc., be prepared to start paying the same price as lobster....if you can get it.

  Our pristine air in Florida is starting to stink every time the wind blows in from the west. We also have very pristine aquafers that are at risk and last but not least all the beautiful beaches and wildlife that the entire U.S. loves to come visit and enjoy.

  I cannot imagine what those west of us in the Gulf are experiencing....there is not enough money.

  No amount of dollars or promises or clean up will restore the Gulf to what it once was for decades.

  This entire episode has been down played by BP, Haliburtan, Government and the News media.

  The entire Gulf Coast is under seige and no one in charge seems to "get it"....oh its just 210,000 gallons a day......

  I can't even get started on the animals.....it just hurts too much!

  my son got suspended from school for fighting.

  not just fighting but choking another boy during their fight.

  he started it in anger over something the other boy did, but none of that actually matters.

  Tec, I've have a funny story for you....

  We had our boys enrolled in an expensive private school ( pre junior High)...There was a bully torturing my older son, and my husband told him, just punch him out. Well, the opportunity arose, and my son followed through.

  Who was called in?.....MY HUSBAND! We still laugh about it to this day. The staff took him to task, and also talked to my older son, but my husband was the one who took the heat! The bully never bothered with my son again.....which was my husband's point.

  My boys are now 23 and 26....the older 6'1 and the younger 6'5. They've had a few more altercations over the years....just expect it. My boys are known for their patience and then absolute crazy tempers if need be. No one messes with these Irish boys.

  It's normal for boys to be boys!!!!! There isn't any way around the testosterone! Believe me, ....I grew up with all brothers, and raised all boys.

  other than that, i don't wear anything else.. my ex loved (still loves) jewelry and she's got an unbelievable collection of goodies....what aboutchoo?

  Thanks Zid, I use to buy very nice sterling Jewelry from Spiegel and Marshall Fields in Chicago. I have a necklace and matching bracelet that must weigh close to 1/2 pound or more. Absolute solid sterling...but black as coal at this point. I haven't worn either piece in years. When they were new...absolutely stunning. Small tiny beads in what must contain 20 strands each. I will get them cleaned and store them as suggested. I always think I am taking off a layer of silver if I try and clean them.

  My mom gave me her 18 carat gold wedding ring after my dad died. Its huge, meaning wide with many channels from Baily Banks and Biddle. For an Anniversary my dad had 10 diamonds put in, and a 1 carat in the middle.....The middle is a Zircon !!!!!

  I have tons of beautiful sterling silver I have bought through the years but it winds up in a dresser drawer and turns an ugly color as we post! I mean huge weighty pieces but ridiculous to keep up. Kind of like a batch of sterling silver ware.

  do you remember the short little dresses small girls wore back then in the khall?

  my mom wouldn't replace ours until they were very short on us.

  she was very cheap.. when we sat down in a chair, it was very difficult to keep the skirt down far enough.. i remember getting slapped hard on bare skin several times because i couldn't keep my dress down when told to.

  Short skirts?!!!!!.....the things I wore were always below the knees from toddler time on up. If they couldn't be bought long enough they were home sewn. I can remember getting so far from my house and rolling skirts. Volumes of material that needed tight rolling, that always wound up crooked but at least they weren't below the knee.

  I was skinny enough to allow the huge waist expasion of material. The schools didn't allow pants at the time....it was a nightmare! All the other girls were wearing short little minis. I showed up on the first day of 8th grade with a billowing, below the knee dress. The laughter I will never forget.

  there are times - or will come times - in our lives when things happen that are so horrible they are beyond belief.. after going through such trials, we are never the same again.. our whole outlook, how we view or respond to certain situations, how we interact with others, is impacted.. these things can make us or break us.. somehow, though, the majority of us make it.. my thanks and kudos to those who help us make it!

  Sylvia, I know exactly what you are saying.

  After my brother died on a motorcycle at 20, I have never let anyone go out the front door without worrying. In other words...it can't happen to me doesn't apply anymore.

  Infact, I anticipate and expect more calamities so at all times I am prepared. As negative as this sounds, I will never again be in a state of utter shock that I was at 24 when my brother died.

  There have been more calamities in my life, not easier, but prepared...... quietly and mentally prepared.....This was a major change in my life and my inner being.

  Oh my god! When did the Elders become hot stuff? When I was growing up...they were the Wardens of the masses. To be dreaded, feared, and certainly not attractive to any free female or married female for that matter.

  They were cheap suit, plastic bag carrying assholes. So self absorbed and self important they were the epitome of disgusting . I never knew any other version.

  just a comb through once daily over your pet with the hair put into a ziplock bag will keep you, your house and your pet flea free.

  fleas love the face, (eyes, mouth, and chin....they drink from these areas) spend about 10 minutes a pet.. gross but it is reality.

  Gross but it is reality. If you daily comb your pet over these areas you will not need the chems that make your pets sick.

  Cats especially love this combing once they get use to it. My old long haired diva cat starts purring when I say" its time to comb." I cannot touch her tummy, but she lets me go to town until she feels she is finished and then gives me a good swipe.

  The Doberman, I can do anything to and I have yet to get a flea off of his bod after 3 years. I bathe him weekly with human shampoo and conditioner.

  I have yet to buy flea meds for either animal. We are in high flea season here in Florida.. We just had visits to to the vet...no worms, heart worms, or fleas.

  I do purchase heart worm meds for my dog.

  Anyway, if you take care daily...this is not a problem and no need for the horrible meds.

  How did 1975 effect your family? here's mine...

  i just spent a few days with my dad.

  i asked a few questions about the time when mum became a witness which i know is still, 38 years later, a painful thing for him to talk about.

  in the course of it, he also learned some stuff that he did not know about the pressures of the times.. as i expected, mum and dad have different versions of this time, and it is pretty hard to find the real truth in it and in some ways it does not matter anymore.. mums version: she first was contacted in echuca late 1960s and dad put a stop to it.

  1975 was the focus of our family life. My parents bought a new home in 1973 and had terrible guilt about it, but figured "they would be watching the big A out their cozy basement windows.

  My mom was born and raised a witness she is now 76.

  My dad finally let go in 1976, after being an elder for years, but went through it by himself with no Internet help and a very angry JW for wife for life.

  Even after he left, he hand enclosed a porch, including: Custom windows , laying a herringbone hardwood floor, having air conditioning put in, special lighting and gorgeous furniture.....all for my mom and her "feather in cap" of having the Tuesday night book study in her home.

  He in-turn would disappear on Tuesday nights. It makes me sick because this was 25 years after 1975.... he was still trying to make a jw happy.

  We kids balked for ages before 1975. It was a religion of rules, regulation, stupidity and spying....a total farce in our young eyes. r.

  I'll try to recognize when I'm stepping out of bounds....... I do love women...... and having a great mother and being privy to so many unhappy marriages for two decades..... has messed with my head. I know it.
