Oppressed people tend to cling to religion more then free people.
It's a great coping mechanism when your life sucks.
this is something i've thought about for a while now.
it seems like the same story on this board over and over--the husband, who also might be an elder, ms, etc.--starts having doubts and researching, aka miseryloveselders and franklin massey and others.
he starts to smell the coffee and realizes that this organization isn't what it claims to be.
Oppressed people tend to cling to religion more then free people.
It's a great coping mechanism when your life sucks.
just never ceases to amaze me how things in the organization stay the same .
you would think by 2011 these guys could come up with something better than " makeup now ,you know jehovah hates a divorcing !
" ( but obviously he doesn't mind a woman being abused !
Countless elders give stunningly ignorant advice every day.
A good friend of mine who got a good beating from her husband was advised, "whatever you did that made him beat you, dont do that again".
Another friend who indured 25 years in a horrible marraige was told repeatedly by the elders that she must stick with him and work it out. When she finally called it quits and walked out on her husband, one of the elders that told her repeatedly that she must stay asked her "what took you so long?"
They are poorly educated men who parrot rules made by a disfunctional organization that has a very distorted view of human nature.
My cat can give better advice then they can.
i don't know if people have already discussed this on here yet or not, but this video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kzvkdul-_8&nr=1.
shows what will happen to those who do not follow the rules and regs that the watchtower bible and real estate corp have pulled out of their arses...er...figured out through careful bible examination and scriptual insight.
That was awesome.
i never could, like some others described, i could never ever see myself there, i just couldnt imagine it at all,.
i wonder if that was a sign that deep down i didnt believe it?.
I had a hard time imagining it, mainly because there was so few details about it.
OK so everyone gets there own pet lion and pick of the dead peoples homes, but would we have electricity and plumbing in those homes?
Would Jah fix the plumbing and roads and such or would we have to clean up the bodies AND repair everything?
How would there be enough shovels and tools and such to clean up everything? Would jah just hand each of us a shovel and clear the roads with a sweep of his hand? Would our cell phones still work? If not how could we coordinate an effort to clean up all the bones after the birds feasted?
Where would we store all those bushals of fruit to be used as money? wouldn't they go bad? No more need for wallets but now we need a barn to store our "money" in. It seems like small slips of paper representing those bushals of fruit would be so much simpler.
after 33 years of being mind controlled at 5 meetings a week, field service meetings, special day assembly, curcuit assembly, district assembly, finding out "the truth" is just a big hoax is like getting punched in the stomach-uppercut in the jaw-being kicked in the balls from behind and then having the rug ripped out from under you and smashing your head on the ground.
what was it like for everyone else?.
Apparently my sub consciense had been working on it some time.
But when my conscience mind cought up it pretty much hit me the way the first poster described.
A punch in the gut and then my kness buckled, I literally fell to the floor it hit me so hard.
good grief!.
how dumb can this future landfill waste magazine get?
take a look at the march issue, "five keys to better health".
Back in the 80's there was an article in the Awake about popcorn.
It stated that popcorn is actually good for you, its the butter and salt that you put on the popcorn that is bad.
My congregation was literally abuzz with this vital, secret information, that is apparently unavailable any where else.
i am noticing here and there that the wt literature will say things like "one bible dictionary says ..." or "one scholar says ..." and then proceed with a quotation.
my immediate reaction is to ask myself why they didn't provide the specific source of the quote - author, publication, page #, etc.
so i am wondering, do other magazines do this?
When my oldest was in grade school she learned how to do research and cite references. They were required to do this on all there essays.
It was a big eye opener for me, that sort of thing never came to my attention before and i quickly realized the society never did it, they lost a lot of respect in my eyes at that point.
Anyone who wants to be taken seriously will cite there references.
Anyone who doesn't do it, is just trying to fool you.... period
even those that no longer believe in "god", i wonder, do you ever ever think of god, believing possibly he may exist?.
for those that do believe in god, do you feel you have more of a relationship than when you were a witness?.
No, I never wonder if she/he/it may exist.
The older I get, the more I learn, the more rediculous the idea of a god becomes.
I really want to believe that there is a big daddy in the sky that has everything under control and will one day right every wrong.
But I do not see a shred of evidence to support that idea.
i remember when i was going to the meetings there were questions that i had which i could never get good answers too.
just one of them i had was how to explain how you knew if you were one of the one hundred and forty four thousand.
i remember trying to explain this to one of my work friends and the reasoning of you just know, like you know if u are a boy or girl sounded stupid to him.
what exactly is sinning against the holy spirit?
why is abortion murder but unborn children will not be resurected?
If we have the truth, why do we have to avoid "apostate" literature? wouldn't it be glaringly obvious that we are right and they are wrong?
Why do good non-jw people get destroyed at armegeddon but Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, and other monsters get free forgiveness and resurection?
if all the dead people will be resurected and have a second chance in a perfect world, wouldn't it be more christian and loving to kill as many people as possible instead of preaching to them? Killing would be so much more efective, a single Jw could save hundreds or even thousands if they planed carefully.
the jws side of the story:.
police side with mob in attack against christian women in indiadavanagere, indiatwo women were attacked by an angry mob in karnataka state after comforting a grieving neighbor who had lost her husband.
one of the women was beaten, and both were detained by police.. two women who are jehovahs witnesses were invited into the home of their neighbor in the city of davanagere, located in central india, on the morning of december 20, 2010. the witnesses had met the woman a few years ago and were seeking to share a positive thought from the bible with her after learning that her husband had died.
What?
Forced to sign something? They must be kidding, When I was five years old I knew it wasn't OK for a Jdub to sign anything, you were suppose to accept death first. I was told repeatedly that a true lover of jah would never do that.
To bad the Jw's during WWII didn't know it was OK to be forced to sign something. My understanding that is all they needed to do, just sign a piece of paper and they could go free. I remember more then one story in the yearbook about it.
Maybe if the Malawi bros and sisters sighed something they could have prevented all that unpleasantness.
OnTheWayOut nailed it, I think his interpretation is spot on.
