Like lostG said, grandiose delusions, for the most part. The rules that apply to other people dont apply to them.

They Gotta Know They are Running a Cult - a Rant
by OnTheWayOut ini go back and forth on this one.
do the governing body members or some higher-ups behind the curtain of the wizard really know they are running a scam of a dangerous mind-control cult?
or are they victims of their own cult?

The JW funeral talk outline - poor taste or REALLY poor taste?
by Mr. Falcon inso i attended a funeral for a jw who passed away (non-"annointed) and i would have to state that although i have heard the standard funeral talk outline for dozens of funerals i've attended, i never really took the time to listen.
and my god, i was cringing.
the outline is essentially broken down like this:.

JW funerals are dreadful.
They are a good example of what the society thinks of its members,
nothing more then tools to be used, and used and used, even after death.

Why Don't Witness Parents Get Angry?
by metatron inthere are a great many puzzlements in regard to the meek and servile compliance of witnesses but one area has long interested me.
specifically, why don't more witness parents get angry at the do-nothing watchtower society?
i can recall one somewhat deranged elder's wife who got away with demanding to speak to the assembled body of elders because she was worried that 'all of of our kids are falling out of the truth'.

I sometimes wonder if this sad, sick cult has people so bamboozled that aside from a few momentary tears, these people look at family life as just another responsibility, one more thing that they have to do, like attend meetings or go out in field service. They seem to let go so easily of what other - 'worldly' - parents would fight for : their children. Indeed, children seem to be treated as near enemies - troublemakers, future fornicators, persons to be dominated and steered away from higher education.
Very well stated, I agree.

Scavenging for members at their place of work
by White Dove ina jw came in as i started my shift today and said that he tried to contact me before but i wasn't there.. i'm deaf and the brother was from an asl congregation.. i used to do calls like that but didn't realize how irritating and upsetting it could be for the employee/householder.
i told him that i used to be a jw but quit.. he asked me if i was under discipline or df'd or something..
wtf?!

Wow, what a strange chain of events.
I hope this doesn't mess with your job situation, especially since you said you really like your boss.
JW's have had their personal bounderies invaded so much that they really dont have a concept as to what personal boundaries are. In the real world you dont go to a persons place of business at random times and bring up intensely personal subjects. Any normal person will tell you that is just crazy.

While a JW, I learned not to do business with other JW's unless it was something minor.
Becaue if things dont work out, you cannot sue your "brother", you will just be SOL

Did The Elders Ever Try To Adjust YOUR Thinking?
by PublishingCult in.
did the elders ever try to "adjust" your thinking?.
can you share what they felt was incorrect about your thinking?.

JuanMiguel,
My JW ex had similar experiences. He locked horns with the elders to much to ever be a MS or even handle the microphones.
But it was obvious that the elders saw him as an over-intellegent threat, and repeatedly tried to knock him down a peg or two.
When that happened he would verbally slice and dice the poor elder.
I think the only reason my ex got away with that sort of thing was because what he said was true, and he had no "privileges" that they could take away from him.

Have you REALLY changed?
by AK - Jeff ini don't get around to visit this board very often these days.
still, when i do, i always come across a thread or two by former jw's who are now church members.
they don't look any different to me than jw's in so many ways:.

When I left the JW's, i tried really hard to continue to believe in the bible and the bible god.
But having been deceived for the first thirty some years of my life, I could no longer accept anything at face value.
The more I researched and tried to make it real, the more it just fizzled into nothing.
I have some christian friends who feel sorry for me because the JWs ruined christianity for me.
But christianity did that all by itself.

Crisis of Conscience, Chapter 3
by snowbird inthe chapter is entitled governing body, with a subheading entitled three monarchs.. in this chapter, ray franz thoroughly debunks the notion advanced by fred franz that wt leadership is modeled after a so-called 1st century governing body.. however, something else that got my attention was the fact that rutherford was referred to as chief by overseas jw's.. on page 70, there is a picture of the london bethel family.. the caption reads: "see 'em grinning?
the chief had just finished telling them something in the "colored language.".
now, this really grabbed my attention!

Ruthorford was in the right place at the right time and saw a chance at power and grabbed it.
In my opineon He did not appear to have any redeeming qualities whatsoever.
I dont thing he even believed any of the doctrinal stuff either, it was just a vehicle to power, adulation. and money.

I know someone who was dfed for "willful disobediance" does that count?
It was a long time ago though, so it did not involve any new light, just elders that were pissed because she did not obey them.
