  Current or exJW parents: What did your congregation do for kids?

  i'd like to know what your congregation did (or did not do) for children of various ages.. were there any playdates for your kids?

  did you have children's parties?.

  in my old hall, the elders and moms would rent a hall out and organise parties for the kids but as we all grew older we were pretty much left to make our own entertainment.. a friends congregation used to have "talent night" but this has gone the way of the dodo.. were you in a hall with very few children?

  Growing up dub, I remember lots of congregation parties and events.

  But In the eighties the elders in our hall put the kabosh on one event after another.

  It got to where the only thing that was allowed was weddings and the occasional, modest, not to many people in attendance, anniversay party, uhh I mean get together.

  I have two adult children, born in the early eighties, I can remember one event that was aimed at kids. A sister at our hall had a party for the kids where they could come dressed up as clowns. That's it, nothing else other then meetings, assemblies, service etc. etc.

  I have a theory regarding Elders

  there has been much talk about the reasons for the demise of the book study.

  the society claim rising gas/petrol prices, which of course is not the real reason.

  some here think its down to declining numbers of elders and those who are reaching out.

  Trickie, you miss the point. You are correct abuse happens in all cultures in all orgs etc.

  The issue is, how they hadle it.

  And JW's handle child abuse issues very poorly.

  And until they begin to protect there own children, i really don't care what else they have to say, I have no respect for them.

  many times i read the life stories of former jws.

  some of these jws are or have been married.

  sometimes their spouses share their doubt about the religion and at times they leave the "truth" together or months or years apart.

  Please Share your Experiences of Abusive Judicial Committee Meetings

  i had noticed on the board recently of several posters mentioning what they , or someone they know has gone through being brought before a jehovah's witness judicial committee - so i thought it would be good to share experiences so we all can get an idea of what has worked for some of you in dealing with it , and also methods to use when dealing with the elders , and it might open some lurkers eyes to the injustices suffered by many - which by the way usually isn't discussed in the rank and file witnesses .

  many of you know my experience - so i will be brief.

  long story short i was inactive for 3 and a half years , scripturally free to remarry , had not attended meetings for that long.

  At fifteen I was interrogated by three elders after i accused my step-father of assaulting me sexually.

  Those three old goats, sitting in a semi circle around me, firing sexually explicit questions at me was a rape in itself.

  What stuns me to this day is that none of those men ever checked up on me after that.

  They told me that they couldn't do anything about it because it was his word against mine, they also forbade me to speak to anyone else about it. So they refused to help me, plus they made sure i could not seek help elsewhere, and then they never checked up on me again!

  It still just blows my mind how they can treat children in that manner............... I just cannot get my mind around it

  as the men in the congregations suffer from burnout and quit helping out as ms and elders, do you think the situation of shrinkage will become so desperate that the wts will be forced to start using women in positions of authority?

  they have a huge commodity that they are refusing to use.

  that makes no sense at all.

  The only way the society will survive is if it goes more mainstream, otherwise it will eventually die out.

  So yes, eventually they will give up the sexist thing.

  It's going to be a long while though.

  Q: What happens when you block my driveway?

  a: i block your car.. today i was out and about enjoying a rare day off work.

  all was well and i was feeling good and having a good time... then i came home and found this grey honda parked in my driveway blocking me from parking in my garage (the one i pay $70 a month for).

  ok, if asshole wants to block me, i'll block asshole.

  I use to know a guy who would do this sort of thing.

  It was never an honest mistake, he was just grabbing the most convenient place to park. In his own words, "I'm only going to be a minute, and theres no one there!" Usually he got away with it, that's why he did it.

  Once a woman parked in a space he paid for and all hell broke loose. He was jumping up and down, screaming at the woman to move her car. She calmly said "don't worry about it" and walked away. He was livid and called a tow truck but by the time it got there she had finished her errand and had gotten back in the car and drove away, him screaming at her the whole time.

  I thought it was hilarious, he finally got a little of his own medicine.

  I always thought the idea of a mans tie is weird.

  So you put a big old slip knot around your neck and then leave a big tail hanging down the front so anyone can just grab it!

  Really, how can you wear one without feeling vulnerable?

  Family situation

  just looking for a bit of good advice, my daughter and son in law have been dfd and i have two great grandsons, elders on patrol realise have been communicating and are now arranging for a meet with co in two weeks, they saw fit to remove what limited priveledges i still hold with all that stuff about disloyalty, sharer in wicked works etc.

  so now too visit and hug grandsons may release the damocletian sword, are any of you guys stll in touch with close family even if still in - have you had major run ins with the boe in similar situations.oh, i dont need a get out clause for the moment.

  i have been studying psychology this past semester at college, and i had a different type of question for this site.

  when abuse of any type occurs ( whether it be toward children, or adults) usually animal abuse can be found linked .

  somewhere in the abusers past.

  It has been my experience that the society has a very low opinion of pets in general.

  Back in the early 70's there was an article in the awake about dogs, it was basically three pages of nothing but negative stuff.

  I recall several times at assemblies comments would be made about how much time and money people would waste on there pets.

  After one such assembly, one brother in our circuit went home and shot the families two dogs, because they took to much time away from serving jah.

  But then again, the GB are negative about everything non-JW.

  It seems to me that other fundy groups tend to be insensitive towards animals also.
