i saw this guy on the today show this morning.
after failing to climb k2 he was helped by pakistani villagers.
The 9/11 hijackers attended college. They were educated.
They were also brainwashed by religion.
Many here went to school, maybe even college and university, yet still got brainwashed by the Jehovah's Witnesses.
Smart people can still be completely wrong when it comes to their religious beliefs. They need to be educated on the religion they follow, from more than a source which is a part of the religion itself.
i know that the atheists are pissed that the theists are always trying to convert them/condemn them to hell and the theists are tired of the atheists always trying to knock down their beliefs.... .
where the heck are you hanging out that theist/atheists are always haranguing you and trying to convert/deconvert you???
am i just missing the roving hoards of these two groups that are searching for the unsuspecting pedestrian or coffeeshop patron and then whammo -they try to convert them???
Where I am, not very many people will take a religious person seriously if they start to be vocal about their beliefs. It's respected as long as it remains private, and if someone starts going on about Jesus it's seen as amusing more than good points to consider. Anyone in the UK who went door to door will know what I mean. So what's the harm in that? None. It's fine. And I'd like it to stay that way. It's more likely to stay that way if non believers aren't afraid to respond with reason to those who like to spread their faith around.
Personally, I don't care if anyone wants to try converting me in real life as it gives me the opportunity to get into a debate on the subject. But it does interfere in other areas. Faith schools, for example. The indoctrination/conversion of minds that are too young to know the counter arguments.
ok. i used to believe in creationism even after i left the dubs.
i was a braindead window washer at the time.
i don't believe in creationism now, but i do believe in a creator and that is different.
Here we are, MORE proof.

LOL I love it when I see people mentioning the Big Bang, cosmology and abiogenesis under the topic of evolution. Shows they don't actually have a clue what evolution is. It's none of those things.
having believed the whole bible, hook, line and sinker all these years i get the impression many of you have come to the conclusion that we should take it with a pinch of salt and not hold to it so dogmatically.
and some possibly believe in it just as much as you did when you were a witness.
to save me some time please, lovely people, as i am very lazy - could you share with me why you do or don't believe in it - what evidence there is either way and if there are any particular books that you found helpful in coming to your conclusions?
Let's see...
It says the sun came after the Earth. False.
It says man was made 6,000 years ago. False.
It says witches are real. They are not.
It says there was a worldwide flood. There was not.
It says bats are birds. They are not.
It says demons inhabit human minds. No, it's mental illness.
It says very unscientific things such as stars falling to Earth. Think about that one. First, ONE star would wipe everything out on Earth before it even reached us, and will the stars be travelling faster than the speed of light to reach us? It says the moon will not give IT'S light. The moon doesn't give any light. It reflects the light of the sun. "Metaphor blah blah metaphor!" - Well even with a metaphor, you'd think it would be more accurate than that!
What else? Oh yeah, stories that are too silly to be believed. A talking donkey, a man living in a whale, magical hair, giants, unicorns, an invisible dragon, a man coming back to life and flying into the sky...
Well, I could go on and on. Every page makes me laugh.
many times on this forum i see the word "god" and i think " so many people have so many gods".
i would like to know how you define the word "god" .
i am not asking if you believe in one, so please don't hit me over the head with verses and things you've heard from others, just speak from self please .
As a side question; If you're an Atheist, why would you celebrate Christmas?
My own response is- why do people wear wedding rings when they're not pagan? The meaning of Christmas has just changed over the years, so many non-Christian things have been introduced to it - Santa, xmas trees, crackers...

My definition: a supernatural power that controls or used to control the universe. That one seems to cover the religious ones, the deist god and possibly the 'spiritual' power.
may you have peace!.
i would like to ask a couple questions of you, if you will accommodate me.
please know that i ask both in all sincerity: i am not trying to inflame, incense or offend.
sorry too long to read
What's that, the Bible or that first post?
i've been wanting to post this for awhile, but didn't.. i said something about a year ago in regards to dawkins that i have to retract.
i had made a comment re him which was just rude and made more likely out of being scared or possibly just plain ignorance.
can't find it, but it's quite possible that some might recall it.
In the updated version of TGD there's an introduction talking about this 'disrespect'. He quotes a few lines from restaurant reviews in newspapers (or a newspaper) in London. They end up looking completely vile compared to the kind of language he uses, yet we all accept this. I think because it's religion, any kind of criticism looks harsh because... well, the topic is religion, and that's it. Compared to things such as reviews, his words are mild. There's a video on youtube somewhere which has him reading out that new intro.
Edit: Found it!
