I left on my own, with strong suspicions of the WT. I could not deal with the cognitive dissonance anymore. I came here only after I "knew" I was right about leaving. JWD has been very effective in helping out afterwards.
Thanks Simon!
just curious, what percentage of people here actually left the jw org because of this site or similar sites?
do these sites really help people to get out?

someone just sent me a link to the 2008 annual report.. haven't read it yet.

I can tell you right now those figures are false.
Some of those hours reported were mine and they were made up.
Don't believe everything you read. The increase of 2% means absolutely nothing.
The truth about this religion is spreading like fire - how many of those poor souls still reporting really believe it's the truth?
How many of them visit here?
Spot on TS, as usual!

However there are numbers in there for them to be pleased about. Total average pioneers is over 1 million for the first time ever I think - a number that has been steadily rising the past few years.
The trend I see in the borg these days, (and the last few years I was "in"), has been that they are becomming more polarized. It is no big surprise that the number of pioneers is up. These days, in the org, you are either a super dub or on your way out, (even if slowly).

just a thought....what do you think?
and if so what will it be?
Like any other entity, (social, religious, biological, etc), they will either evolve, or eventually become extinct. They have too many factors working against them at present, (no dates, can't really have dates because people will see that as "whacky", financial issues, a smarter and better informed r&f, numbers too big to be controllable, etc), to last in their current form much longer.
That said, they will probably go into some type of recession, then rebuild and change, as required.

i'm currently listening online to wbgo public radio out of newark, nj.
jazz, swing, soul and some funk on the weekends.
great historical commentary, too.
I did some work for WBGO back in the '90s, (maintained their phone and voice mail systems).
While on the topic of radio stations, another really good one is another public/university station WXPN out of Philly. A good mix of adult alternative rock and a good album based classic sprinkled in for good measure.

i haven't seen this question posted here before, but did any of you who stayed at one of the hotels on the society's recommended lodging list save money than if you attended a hotel not on the list?.
having seen a few of these lists, it seems the rates given are expensive..
Never! I really saved money by using my Hilton Honors points, and stayed at a hotel that I wanted to stay at!
they don't care if they die, as long as it's for the cause.
they will zealously implement their agenda no matter how unreasonable or ignorant it is.
if "mother" told them to become martyrs, they follow the direction.
I am no longer a jw because of 9/11.

does anyone here who disassociated regret it?
do you wish you had just faded instead?
did disassociating give you a liberating feeling of power over your life?
Not even a little bit....
Would do it again!

i think it was when it was announced that an elder arrangement would be practiced.. that shook the foundations of a lot of congregations..
I'm not such an "old timer" organazationally speaking...I was "phased in" during the late '70s-early '80s, after all of the 1975 hysteria, 1980 "Great Apostacy", etc, when I was young.
So most of the "big announcements" have come the last couple of years, (since I've been out). But, the elimination of the BS is the biggest, from my standpoint.

heard today that the nov 15 issue has two of its four study articles targeted at helping inactive ones.
get ready for the phone calls to start up.
has the scans of this been posted yet?.
It's times like these that make me glad that I'm df'd.
I d/a'd just avoid this kind of campaign.
