The UN Affiliation: Likely Denouement?

ive found the un affiliation threads very interesting, but ive also expressed the view that this issue will have virtually no effect on jw membership.

i have at least two reasons for believing this.. first, after reading w. j. schnells 1957 book, thirty years a watchtower slave, in which the author describes how the watchtower used negative publicity to increase membership, im now of the opinion that continued commentary on this matter may only serve to foster an even greater conviction on the part of rank and file jws that they are being persecuted, and they will increase their efforts to recruit members; this will offset what i think will be a miniscule number of defections by those who will feel betrayed because of the un affiliation.

the reason why i think there will be few defections is described below.. second, i believe that the watchtower can easily defend itself.

example: i am fixing to go to the store.. 7. all the festivals across the state are named after a fruit, vegetable, grain, or animal.. 8. you install security lights on your house and garage and leave both unlocked.. 9. you carry jumper cables in your car ... for your own car.. 10. you know what "cow tipping" and "snipe hunting" is.. 11. you only own four spices: salt, pepper, ketchup,and tabasco.. 12. you think everyone from a bigger city has an accent.. 13. you think sexy lingerie is a tee shirt and boxer shorts.. 14. the local papers covers national and international news on one page but requires 6 pages for sports.. 15. you think that the first day of deer season is a national holiday.. 16. you know which leaves make good toilet paper.. 17. you find 90 degrees f "a little warm.".

18. you know all four seasons: almost summer, summer, still summer, and christmas.. 19. you know whether another arkansan is from southern, middle, or northern arkansas as soon as they open their mouth.. 20. there is a dairy queen in every town with a population of 1000 or more.. 21. going to wal-mart is a favorite past-time known as "goin wal-martin" or off to "wally world.".

Gentile Times

here is a question from readers.. this was in the days when they were truly from the public.. in establishing the length of the seven times of the gentiles, a time or year of 360 days is used, to give 2,520 days, which become 2,520 years when ezekiel 4:6 is applied.

yet when we figure from 607 b.c.

down to a.d. 1914, the 2,520 years are solar years of 365 1/4 days each, and not lunar years of 360 days each.

I cant add much to the fine comments made, especially by AlanF and Islandwoman.

I just wanted to underline a point made by Alan. I too really began to take note of the incongruousness of the WT's view of Matthew 24 around 1993.

Something else that intrigued me is that even though Benjamin Wilson's Emphatic Diaglott was published before the enlarged understanding of koine greek, he was aware of the nuances of the word parousia. In 1 Corinthians 15:23 note how Wilson renders parousia:

"But each one in his own rank; Christ a firstfruit; afterwards, those who are Christ's at his APPEARING." (caps Benjamin Wilson's)

The NWT dogmatically renders parousia, you guessed it, presence.
This of course, to shore up their creaky 1914 invisible presence doctrine.

i have received a package from the united nations high commissioner for human rights.

you may recall that dino found out that the uns high commissioners office in geneva, switzerland has in its collection the november 22, 1998 awake!

magazine article titled a long job finished (pages 3 and 4) and a second article titled the universal declaration of human rights (page 5).

Putting the WTS's UN Affiliation In Perspective!!!

after following jalward's and other's posts over the past week or so regarding how the borganization views the wts's previous un affiliation, i thought it would meaningful to consider how joe average elder in mayberry, usa perceives the congregation's responsibility to not only to keep entirely free of governmental connections, but even how far a local boe would go to avoid even an appearance of such.. thus, i pose the following hypothetical, and invite readers to give their opinion as to how they think mayberry's boe would react to receiving this letter from their local mayor:.
