WT Statistics

does anyone out there have a good set of raw data re wt statistics.

just started reading ray's book and believe some of the maths behind his calculations regarding people leaving the org are flawed, not that the reasoning is flawed, just an error in the method.. i would like to re run the calculation.

also i'm a bit of a stat junky and would like to look at the real trends.

Why no JW convention coverage in the Ukraine?

i've been looking around the web and i have hardly seen any coverage of the international convention in kiev (and satellite conventions throughout the ukraine) this past weekend.

has anyone in here seen anything?

questions about 1975 and other dates

my wife and i were discussing the date of 1975 earlier this week and she basically was of the opinion that the individuals who thought the end was coming in that year came up with the date based on their incorrect assesment of published information.

i replied that would it make sense for thousands of people across the continent to sell their homes and all of their valued possesions if they really had the slightest doubt that armageddon was not coming in 1975. she did'nt have an answer for that retort but still she insisted that somehow these people must have made a mistake in their judgement.

so for those of you who may have lived through the 1975 fiasco and those who have in-depth knowledge about the events that took place in that year maybe you can answer a few questions for me.. how widespread was the belief that 1975 was the year of armageddon?

In modern times such eagerness, commendable in itself, has led to attempts at setting dates for the desired liberation from the suffering and troubles that are the lot of persons throughout the earth. With the appearance of the book Life Everlasting—in Freedom of the Sons of God, and its comments as to how appropriate it would be for the millennial reign of Christ to parallel the seventh millennium of man’s existence, considerable expectation was aroused regarding the year 1975. There were statements made then, and thereafter, stressing that this was only a possibility. Unfortunately, however, along with such cautionary information, there were other statements published that implied that such realization of hopes by that year was more of a probability than a mere possibility. It is to be regretted that these latter statements apparently overshadowed the cautionary ones and contributed to a buildup of the expectation already initiated.

In its issue of July 15, 1976, The Watchtower, commenting on the inadvisability of setting our sights on a certain date, stated: “If anyone has been disappointed through not following this line of thought, he should now concentrate on adjusting his viewpoint, seeing that it was not the word of God that failed or deceived him and brought disappointment, but that his own understanding was based on wrong premises.” In saying “anyone,” The Watchtower included all disappointed ones of Jehovah’s Witnesses, hence including persons having to do with the publication of the information that contributed to the buildup of hopes centered on that date.

i spoke with henry s., paralegal with the electronic frontier foundation(eff), about the hosting of the boe letters.

he feels that if it went to court, i could win this under fair use.

I think you should contact Bill Bowen or Kent Steinhaug...maybe they can host them and Bill already has an attorney...not sure about Kent though...but he is sure active again with WT Observer and thats great.

Social issues. The Bible foretold that in “the last days” men would be “lovers of themselves, . . . having no natural affection, . . . without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness.” (2 Timothy 3:1-3) Therefore, it should not surprise us that child abuse is practiced on a large scale today. This subject was given frank treatment in the article “Help for the Victims of Incest” in The Watchtower of October 1, 1983. Eight years later, the cover series “Healing the Wounds of Child Abuse” in the October 8, 1991, Awake! was carefully prepared to provide understanding and hope for victims as well as to enlighten others so that they can offer helpful assistance. This series of articles elicited the greatest reader response in the history of our journals. One reader wrote: “The greatest impact on my recovery has been the comforting thoughts and Scriptural references in these articles. To know that Jehovah did not think any less of me was an overwhelming relief. To know that I was not alone was equally comforting.”

Now why was that response so big if child abuse isn't a problem in Jah's Org?

Hogyan készül fel a megújuló rendorség (mondjuk vasrendorség?) a garázda futballszurkolók megfékezésére? Füstöt okádó kisállatravatallal és szürrealista acidpantomimmel, derítette ki az Index nyáriújságíró-osztaga a fehéren izzó Puskás-stadionban. Az úgynevezett Vasprefektus a jelek szerint kemény - és sok elemében meglepo módon pszichedelikus - PR-kampányt indított a testület renoméjának emelésére.

Ennek a hívásnak nem lehetett ellenállni. Módszertani bemutatót tartanak a rendorök a Népstadionban "A szurkolók által megvalósított rendzavaró tevékenység rendori csapatero intézkedésekkel történo kezelése" címmel, állt a faxon, mi meg gondolkodás nélkül robogóra, illetve biciklire pattantunk, hiszen ez magyarul nyilván tömegoszlatást jelent.

Lóhalálában iszkolunk fel a lépcsokön, András már élesíti is az objektívet. Az álgarázdák meglepoen szelídnek tunnek, egy leány és anyja jövobe mutató beszélgetést folytat (Leány: "Anya, hogy van az, hogy holnap?" Anya: "Tomorrow."), aztán észrevesszük az Isten és a Jehova szavakat a molinón, a küzdotéren pedig a kereszteléshez elokészített medencéket, így megint csak tovább kell állnunk, rohamrendort és kamuvandált keresve.

Aztán megtaláljuk oket.

A betonkaréj bejáratánál eloször egy nénit pillantunk meg több száz palack szódával. Talán a tömegoszlatás legújabb csodafegyvere?
