What didn't you do because you were a JW that you now regret?

i just bought a bottle of wine for an exjw's 30th that i am about to run off to.

on it there was a great quote by mark twain:.

"twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do... explore.

I could have had sex with girls growing up as a JW, just never saw myself being like that. The wife that left me after 23 years (when I found out the truth about "The Truth") was the first girl I ever kissed!

The things I regret are simply, things I can't do anything about now.

When I was young, I was very good at baseball, maybe could have made a living at it. But, school sports was a no-no for witnesses. And of course, wish i'd left the witnesses sooner. So what can you do? I plan on getting involved in city league games where I live (ok, so it's +50 league!).

You can't change the past, so I made sure, once I was away from the witnesses that my kids would have a chance to do what they wanted in school & life. G

Sounds like a great idea.

I was disassociated (another label) by the witnesses a few years ago, and lost my family and wife of 23 years to the Watchtower. Do you plan on saying anything in your documentary about people like me who just wanted to leave and are also shunned but not disfellowshipped? Gymbob

Aside from tequilla and sex - what do you do to relax?

My motorcycles.

About 20-25 minutes from my driveway and i'm cruising past a mountain lake, then a stop at the Riverview Bar & Grill for a cold beer overlooking the river....very relaxing.

Oh yea, then when I get home I have sex & To-kill-ya with my wife!

Audience participation during public talks

we hear so much about the boring talks.. several years ago an attempt was made to liven things up a bit by randomly choosing people before the public talk, handing them a slip of paper with a question on it, and asking if they would like to answer the question when called upon during the talk.

that must have been 20+ years ago.

anybody know why that practice was discontinued?.

I remember that!

We had some wild service meeting parts back in the early 70's. I remember one time all of us teenagers in the cong. dressed up like hippies and we were "protesting" the meeting, marching up and down around the seats between parts! If i'd only known then what I know now....(That was at the hall in Long Beach, CA, on 55th & Cherry Ave., if anybody knows it).

Too bad they put a stop to all the fun not long after that, don't know why.....

Any lawyers here - re 2nd Baptism question.

just a thought.... does the 2nd baptism question, "do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you as one of jehovahs witnesses in association with gods spirit-directed organization?

" enter the candidates into a legally binding contract?.

this is a verbal declaration to abide by the "corporation rules" (disfellowshipping etc) said infront of witnesses (no pun intended).. could it be that this is why this question was added?

Just something else to add...

Years ago when I was a baptism attendant, we were instructed to watch and make sure everyone answered out loud to both of the baptism questions. If you didn't answer, you didn't get dunked.

Street Corner "Witnessing"

so today was a bit of a lazy monday.

first i slept in an extra hour.

then i took my 7 year old son to school, a task usually performed by my wife.

I hated street-witnessesing! Not to get off-thread, but did anyone else hit the laundramats early in the morning with mags? People just sitting around waiting for their clothes to dry with nothing to read...this was popular in S. California when I lived there. Gymbob

i have been reading this board for about 4 years.

after 38 years of being a baptized jehovah's witness, i did some research on the internet and found enough evidence to quit.

that was 4 years ago and i am so much happier now.

Atheists, Why the Anger?

ok, so you deny the existence of a god, or you lack belief in a god.

my question why do you get so angry over a mythical being?

no one gets as upset over the tooth fairy, santa claus or the easter bunny, as i have seen some of the atheists on this board get over the slightest mention of god.

Just because the universe began doesn't = you're biblical god.

Somebody, a looooong time ago did something to cause what we now call home. That person is loooong gone.

Take for example the bugs crawling around in your backyard....your yard is their universe. Because you fixed up the yard, that doesn't make you the god of the bugs, does it? Does it mean you WANT to be worshipped? Do you care about, and try to communicate with those bugs? Of course not.

What we have as a universe started so long ago, NOBODY will ever know how it all started in our lifetime. Bummer, uh?

What we DO have is life now. And I for one don't plan on wasting any of it in a kingdumb hall or church, hoping that I lived good enough in this life, to make it to the next.

I try to be a good guy. But there isn't a god that can fairly say that I have a debt to be paid for being a "sinner", this is WHAT WE ARE! It's not called sin, it's called LIFE! What did any of the billions of people on the earth now do to incure any debt that crusifying a really nice guy can fix??
