when i first left jehovah's witnesses (jw's), i was somewhat amused at the sheer amount of anti jw websites out there.
while websites like freeminds.org and jwfacts.com are great, (non hysterical sites that stress fact and presentation over emotional responses), there are at least 5 times as many other sites that act as if you should treat a jw at your door like you would a spreader of the ebola virus.. i don't disagree with the fact that jw's are somewhat dangerous and usually go for the low hanging fruit.
Jeff, I want to thank you for encapsulating my feelings towards all the people who rant and rave about Freemasons, Illuminati, subliminal messages, Russell's grave, and all the other irrelevant B.S. that ex-JWs use against the org. It's a waste of time.

It was not 'til I was in the process of leaving that I discovered that the preaching work was just busywork. Everyone who joins needs a job--a "career" of handing out pamphlets. Otherwise they'd have too much freedom!

the talk outlines for the summers conventions are only being printed over the next 2 weeks or so.. the finished outlines were ready in the middle of december 2009, however sources that i trust tell me that at least 5 of the talks were returned for last minute rewriting which is highly unusual.
this has held up the printing until now, a delay of over a month.

When the December KM came out with a glaring mistake, I'm sure that indicated little to most of this board, but to me it was significant. These are people I know/knew. Things like this tell me volumes.

he sat around heaven with nothing to do for almost 2000 years until "the truth" was re-discovered by an american haberdasher.
he never seems to get any personal mention/appreciation even in life stories by the supposed "anointed" as published by the society (in contrast to the apostle paul and other early christians).
Also, the old book had 7 songs specifically about Jesus. The new book has 2 songs about Jesus.
at the last two meetings i have been to, two brothers mentioned in their parts that we have a personal responsibility to turn in someone we know who is involved in wrongdoing.
they both said we need to do this out of love and because we could also lose our own relationship with jehovah if we fail to do so.
it struck how odd this all is.
Snitches get cut out of social circles. I never wanted a part of that noise.

Wait, so now it is ok to be politically active and influence the "fellow citizens" of one's country to vote in certain Dub-friendly ways? This is nothing but political activism and it's sanctioned by the borg. Their shame knows no bounds.
Their appeal has the support of human rights advocates. That's funny--I thought "human rights" were the last thing that they really cared about, since they're all for over 99% of the world being killed by Jehovah. Why, that thought just warms their hearts.

Maybe I'm confused, but I thought they should want this sort of treatment. I thought Jehoover was supposed to step in right about now and fix things.
as i was growing up my dad would always make a special effort to enlighten his catholic brother-in-law.
hed ask my uncle to get out his catholic bible and show him scriptures.
one of his favourite arguments was the doctrine of the popes infallability.
First, the 1+1+1=1 argument is lame. They think of it more lie a pie, yes, it might be cut into three slices, but it's still one pie. But I digress. If we are talking IQ, I think both group's members are probably on equal footing. I do, however, believe that Catholics on average are probably more knowledge about the world. They don't insulate themselves and they don't discourage higher education.
But then they'd get all upset: "So now God's a fraction now??"
the governing body wants to disable individuality.
individuality is evidenced by self-expression.

Spot on. It is about the destruction of the individual. Why is everyone's worth judged by the hours they put in, or their attendance record? As I was working on my car today, a JW who was working on a house not far from mine wandered over and said, "Hi, whatcha doin'?"
*out of breath* "Rotating my tires."
"Oh that's good."
"Yeah, there's some uneven wear on this one right here."
"Uh huh..."
Guy looks around for a minute.
"We miss you."
"Ehhhh...."
This was something of a groan from me. I turned away and went to the other side of the car to work. He said nothing else and walked away.
If he really missed me, why didn't he call? Meeting attendance was all that really mattered.
