Aww...you've been looking for me! Well aren't you just the sweetest.

I left the forum for a bit because...well...thinking about dub things can be pretty depressing and I had more important things to worry about than dub drama. I've been lurking for about a month or so. Things are going okay, still waiting to see if I get into college this fall (I already got accepted into my Plan B school--but thanks to California budget shortfalls that may not happen) so that's the long and short of what's going on in my world.

I haven't been bothered by the elders since I dropped off the radar about two years ago, so I'm quite happy for that.

i have found some powerful reinforcements when people have stated their " epiphany moment "... please share some.. my turning pointing began when i was badly hurt by a person i had always viewed as a literal brother.

love was conditional.... if it was the case with him , then how about those i had less affection for and trust in ?.

There were a few things that put me over the edge, but I think it was seeing my sister get hugs from all of her "friends" once she was reinstated. I thought, "You hypocrites, just last week she was dead to you, and now she's your friend?"

I held onto that anger, and it gave me the resolve to have nothing to do with those people.

I hated Sundays. Only the strangest people would show up on that day. I still remember the time when no one showed up, and I could go home. I was soooo happy!

Things I have heard about California JW's

after reading the two piece bikini discussion and the comment about calipornea, it reminded me of something i used to hear about the jw attitude in general there.

that it was extremely lax compared to mid west or other areas.. people were supposedly not df'd when they would most definitely been elsewhere, and more "worldy" type of dress and grooming were tolerated well.. is this correct at least in some areas?

if so, do you think it has to do with money, or the general culture there?.

The nature of your congregation really depended on what part of town it was in. San Diego seems to equally represent conservative and liberal viewpoints (the county usually votes 50-50 Rep/Dem every election). You've got the military influence, plus a lot of midwest transplants on the conservative side. Then you've got the usual California effect on the liberal side.

I was raised in a very stodgy congregation of retired dubs--it was so stuffy that other congregations commented on it. I visited people in wealthier congregations, and you'd have people discussing auto purchases and business deals. I went up to Temecula for a party where the kids are bored, and it seemed like there was always talk about "the dangers of the double life." Spanish congregations usually had a more conservative lean.

I did see the difference between local dubs and dubs from the midwest or east. There was a couple coming in to see a friend from the midwest, and they were shocked that one young brother had education (Master's degree). They felt that "education was dangerous for most" and would lead to fading away.

WTBTS Elder & Ministerial Servant Problems

i attended a recent ministerial servant k m school on the east coast and the main school instructor mentioned among other things (part entitled: 'objective of the km school course') that the total number of ministerial servants is seriously less than it should be.

in times past the ratio of m ss to elders was much more than it is today.. in the u.s. apparently the total number of elders is 88,500+ as opposed to m ss 65,000. the numbers show & numbers don't lie: the society is running out of spiritual men.

the instructor stated that this is a new downward trend that has (in so many words) the society worried.. the next speaker (part entitled: 'why we must be spiritual men') added that in his years as a traveling servant the pool of m ss has always been much, much larger than it is today.

Yup...I used to be an MS, right as I was figuring out the BS of the org. Too smart for them. I recall they had two older guys (50-60) as MS: one was a goofball, so he wasn't elder material. The other was a nice guy but had throat cancer and constant pain, so he was not going to be bumped up either. I was the go-getter and I got the hell out of there!

I kinda wonder who they have as MS now; kinda don't. I probably wouldn't even recognize the congregation these days. That's good. As long as they don't recognize me, even better.

a family member was a maoist and had these perfect english pamphlets prepared by a foreign government.

the grammar was perfect.

I've always noted a very condescending tone about things, and I felt the sentence length and structure could use some variation from time to time. I know they're working off a style manual; they should use a better one.

he was not a jw.

he merely went to meetings with my brother in law to get out of the house and to go have lunch afterwards.

it has been said on here for the last few years now, that with the elimination/combination of the book study at the kingdom halls instead of at homes, the introduction of new rule books (keep yourself in god's love) and the new elder manual that a "tightening of the reigns" was beginning.

and so, just as the members of jwd and the internet have written, so it shall be done by the governing body overlords.

I'm not sure that this new announcement signals some campaign to force the faders into coming back by threat of auto-DA/DF. Field service has always been mandatory, but in my experience it was always tacitly understood to be that way. If inactivity is now punishable by auto-DA, as is speculated, that would require a lot of lead-chasing and work from the elders. Therefore if his statement really foreshadows a massive round-up campaign, I would expect to see a flurry of visits from elders and COs to all the inactives. Without that proof, it's just a whip-cracking statement.

Maybe they'll work up the nerve to try and get me to come back, lol...
