Refusing to pioneer won't get you DF'd. But it will garner your friend some unwanted scrutiny. They are going to make her feel like she's "spiritually weak" or some other nonsense. There's no way to say no and not get harassed about it.

HELP!! ADVICE....Saying NO to pioneering

What led you to think that the Watchtower had God's approval?

"A psychologist will tell you that critical reasoning develops in children when they are about 8-12 and if a child is unable to develop that part of himself, they lose the ability to think independently. Critical reasoning in a normal kid simply means to look at something, question and resolve. A kid raised zealously in the truth does not have that ability because they become dependent on the organization to instruct them on all aspects of their lives."
--sammielee24
A little story about that. There are two kids in my hall who were baptized in their single digits (7 for one and I think 8 or 9 for the other) and were pioneering a year later. They've been home schooled their whole lives. To meet these kids is a trip. The first thing that would come into your mind is that they're like Rod and Todd Flanders, except black! They are sheltered beyond belief. They are either going to remain hardcore watchtower slaves their whole lives, or flip out and get tattoos and start using drugs. There's really no middle ground when you're that sheltered. -

Downsizing part 2
by Pistoff ini forgot the most irritating response to the downsizing: i have a close relative, who knows many of the new york insiders, who said this about those who were downsized kicked to the curb:
"it was felt that some were getting too comfortable"
what in the world does that mean?

"My thoughts exactly. It is not as if they don't know how to dress someone down for not doing their job; are they saying that the only way to correct someone's work habits, someone who has rearranged their life to move to Bethel, is to throw them out?"
--Pistoff
Yeah, it doesn't make sense. You would figure those old folks would be the very first ones to make sure their lives weren't "too comfortable" were they to receive council on the matter.
You can always find the answer if you follow the money... -

Speech on Jehovah's Witnesses for College
by jayhawk1 ini have a speech to do for college speech class.
it is to be a persuasive speech and i figured a good topic would be; "are jehovah's witnesses rational?
" certainly with my background (being raised as one of jehovah's witnesses, then shown the ugly side while still an active member, and finally researching the truth about jehovah's witnesses) gives me a wealth of information to pull from.

Spelling: Beth Sarim. There's also Beth Shan but there's less info on that house.
You could talk about how although Russel is credited with founding the religion, all or nearly all of his writings have been dismissed, and much the same goes for Rutherford.
You could talk about how rational it is to claim a widely acknowledged and chronicled event (destruction of Jerusalem in 587 BC) happened 20 years earlier, and bandy about the word "historicity" in their publications, when they consider "secular history as merely advisory." How disrespectful...of course, it's cold and businesslike, so I'm not too suprised by this. I guess they're going to have to stretch even more for those heartwarming "90 or 100 year old brother who still does his job everyday" stories. Or maybe just cancel them altogether.
BTW, how can you get too comfortable waking up at 6 or 7 am everyday for work, in a shared room, on a small stipend? I mean, my goodness, they make it sound like those old folks were lounging around in slippers and robes until 9:30 and ordering lobsters and wine from room service... -

The most self-deluded witnesses in my hall are leaving on assignment to unworked territory for a week in Utah. I told one of them to ask people where Warren Jeffs is hiding.

The Great Watchtower Porn Panic
by metatron insome years ago, when the 'voluntary donation' arrangement was announced, the society followed it up with a period of near panic.. they flooded the kingdom ministry, watchtower and circuit assemblies with pleas "reminding" the friends to open up their wallets.. eventually, they calmed down and accepted the situation, especially after coming up with new scams involving "deficits" at assemblies.
and appeals for property being willed to them.. .
it is with this background that i note a burst of emphasis about porn.

"Broadband is the road leading off into to destruction and many are the ones finding it."
--trevor
AMEN to that!! That's the gospel I spread everyday.
Well Metatron, maybe it's been an embarrassing problem to get DF card after DF card with "porneia" on it. Besides, maybe writing about it turns them on. -

You might be a Witness, if ... (in the spirit of redneck jokes)
by free2beme infeel free to add on.. if you ever went to another religions funeral, and handed out watchtower publications and thought that was okay ... you might be a witness.
if you thought you were getting to old, and needed to get married as soon as possible and were only 20 ... you might be a witness.
if you remember preaching "the end is near" for over twenty years, and claim to be okay that it did not come yet ... you might be a witness.

If you don't call social situations parties, but you call them gatherings or get-togethers, you might be a Witness...
If at said gathering you play "Suavemente" at least once, you might be a Witness (from California)...
If you are looked down upon because you have a two-door car, you might be a Witness...
If you call a Buick "The Lord's Car" (I'm not making this up), then you might be a Witness...
If you went to a theme park on a holiday and hummed songs from the songbook just to see if anyone would respond, you might be a Witness...
If every meeting night you show up 30 strong to a restaurant just before they close, then complain about the bad service, you might be a Witness... -

"I'm really begining to see what a bunch of 'followers' most these people are. And unfortunately my mom is one of them. She's always going to the 'you are not following the anointed' line of (her) logic. So many times I've wanted to unload and ask her to provide just one once of proof that these people are appointed by God. Because they say so? You better do as we say or else? ... Forgive me, but I've had my eyes opened. I'm not going to live my life by some group of old men in N.Y.C. because they tell me too."
--In Between
Yeah, that's been something I had always wanted to know. How did they know they were "Anointed?" "They just know, like you know you're a male or female," was always the reply. I had always wanted to corner one and ask them, but I decided against it as I might not like the reply I would get...
All I knew is that they had to be old.
I wonder if anyone has heard about young people "becoming Anointed?" There was a story floating around in a talk about this young guy that "found out" he was "anointed" and proceeded to get chewed out for it because he told someone else about it. If that story was real, it made no sense to have a replacement anointed guy. If you knew you had this special calling, how could it be taken away from you? And if you knew you had this special calling, why would you throw it away, especially since you get to have it so well? And weren't they sealed and protected, anyhow? Something didn't seem right even when I heard that story. But it was the only one. -

Vulnerable, the JW or the apostate?
by Fatfreek inin my internet browsing i've seldom come across expressions of non-jw's fearing contact with jw's -- as if the jw beliefs would rub off on us, or contaminate us.
on the other hand, during my years-ago meeting attendance and reading of the wt publications this seemed to be a perpetual theme -- be on guard, watch your faith.
it was as if one week away from the meetings would place an irrepairable dent in the witness armour.

SirNose586
"If their faith is so strong, why all the paranoia?
Do you fear the JW's now as much as you feared the apostates when you were a JW?"
Nothing is ever good enough. If you proclaim that you have faith, you'll be busted down for pride, and lack of humility. 'No friend, you need to keep working on that ship of faith, constantly. Don't stop studying the books and Watchtowers. Have the stuff coursing through your veins, and keep coming to the meetings.' What Parakeet said was right on the money: contradictory thoughts spoil the brainwashing process.
And apostates? Wow, I mean, the way it was told me, you'd be in better shape meeting up with a mugger or a killer. God help you if you run into an apostate!! Because they are bitter, and they'll destroy your faith!!!
I couldn't bear to even look at the guys walking around the stadium with little tracts with the cross and crown on them, a few years ago. But even then, it was a real aspect of the WTS past.
Last convention, there was a single guy standing there with changing signs. Whenever I was walking by myself, I'd read his signs in passing. How I wanted to go up to him and chat him up...
