But James, you're forgetting that there would be the forty years desolation of the Jets. Because you refuse to pay attention to a prophecy that has nothing to do with the Jets upset in 1949, you cling to a false apostate date. Why would you believe a hedonist "Broadway Joe" over the words of the Celebrated Watchtower Scholars TM ?

Joe Namath did not win the Superbowl in 607BCE, and I can prove it.
by james_woods inperhaps some will be completely bewildered by this title.
perhaps many will say - are you crazy, james?
what does it matter?.

The REAL REASON JW's refuse blood
by DannyHaszard inbut they don't realize that what the bible says about blood is not the real reason why they refuse blood transfusions.
therefore what the bible says at matthew 24:34 is not the real reason they believed it.
here too the real reason will only show up if the society ever changes what it teaches about blood transfusions.

Resolutions at Meetings
by bavman inhave you ever seen a congregation not raise enough hands to make a resolution pass?
-
SirNose586
When they do those voting things they always have elders ready to make a motion and second a motion. It's all planted well in advance.
I don't think they do this in my congregation. One resolution, this older ornery sister was the only one who raised her hand to second the motion. When she got the mic she said, "I second that emotion." Scattered giggles from the peanut galley. I don't think it was on purpose, but she clearly said "emotion," so we still giggle about it to this day.

Had dinner with some worldly friends, WTBTS is full of it
by thecarpenter injust had dinner with some worldly friends and relatives and what a great time i had.
it was sobering to think that i cut them out for so long and yet they are such nice people.
we were conditioned to believe that they were bad influences and were demon possessed but actually are quite decent and church going people with real strengths and weaknesses like everyone else.

This was one of my pet peeves too. Not to say that conversations with non-dubs were exponentially more enlightening or stimulating, it's just that I didn't have to sidestep any landmines with them. With the most hardcore dubs you can talk about...the weather...last sunday's talk...the last bookstudy...the last service meeting...service...how horrible the world is and HOW WE NEED THAT NEW ORD--NEW SYSTEM!!...etc. It gets better with your non-benighted dub...you can talk about non controversial movies, music, TV, local news, general national news. But nothing that you can sink your teeth into--nothing that you can argue passionately.
I certainly hope the experience is mine alone, but one thing I really detest about talking with dubs is that you can't argue. Everything must be happy sunshiney wonderful unity. Sure, nobody's feelings get hurt, but during these bore-fest "gatherings," I want to leave within 5 minutes. I've heard the same puns, the same phrases, the same eyeroll-inducing humor. I've got an image to keep up though, so I endure it.

An Invitation To ThirdWitness & Scholar - strengthen their faith.
by hillary_step inthird witness & scholar,.
i am sure that given your sneering remarks in recent months you know that many, though not all, who post to this board are agnostic / atheists or have 'lost their faith' in the bible.
i am inviting you to present a defence of the bible in order to strengthen the resolve of the many jw's who read this board anonomously.

I think it's time that we quit treating these two posters as if they have any relevance.
I'm down for that. Of course, nobody likes to miss out on a good argument. On an old board I used to frequent (with dubs), I'd often goad people into arguments just to exercise my int4rw3b fl4ming chops. It probably pissed off a handful of people...but hey, it's fun!

worldly boyfriends
by confusedgirl20 ini just joined this site a couple days ago.
i started going to the kingdom hall at age 12. i am 20 now.
i beleive a lot of what jws beleive ( i was baptized at age 15), but it breaks my heart that because i have a worldly boyfriend all my friends and family that are jws have disowned me!

Your situation reminds me of this other girl in my hall. She was a pioneer, real respected, all that jazz. Got caught with a guy about twice her age, and is now shunned. I don't know how she makes the meetings; when she sits there, she looks like she's constantly on the verge of crying. Poor thing.

Day for a year?
by moomanchu ina time is 360 days = 1 year.
months were 30 days x 12 = 360 = 1 year .
1 year therefore is 360 days?
-
SirNose586
The day for a year concept is a holdout from Millerite thinking.
- JWs say the "seven times" were punishment upon Jerusalem's dynasty of kings.
- Daniel chapter 4 explains that the "seven times" were punishment upon Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon.
- JWs say the banding of the tree stump meant that God's rulership would be interrupted and that the Gentiles would rule for a fixed period of time.
- Daniel 4 explains that the banded tree stump stood for a restriction upon Nebuchadnezzar's, not upon God's rulership.
- Nowhere does the Bible indicate that the "seven times" upon Nebuchadnezzar are "the times of the Gentiles" upon Jerusalem.
- JWs use an absurd method to connect texts in a vain effort to link the "seven times" and the "Gentile times."
We just went over that in the study. To connect two different prophecies, and then assign a larger fulfillment to a prophecy without any contextual proof, is quite dishonest. Only within these last couple months have I finally noticed that.
