Very simple answer - $$$$$$$.
As for JWs having any problem with children drinking, they defend my ex who advocates his children drinking from a very early age. And how many of them do you know that are alcoholics? I had to say that 90% of my KH (through several halls) were alcoholics. I almost think you have to be to survive.

Prince and Lindsay Lohan Partying?
by wozadummy injust finished reading an article in the morning newspaper about lindsay lohan cheking herself into the wonderland centre for drug and alchohol rehab.. it is sad to see such a beautiful young person getting to need such services with so much of her life ahead.. but the part of the report that made me sit up and think was this, i quote........ "ms lohan was in hospital on january 3 for appendicitis but was seen out partying a couple of hours after she was discharged.. since, she has been seen out almost every night and on monday she attended prince's post golden-globes bash at the beverley wilshire hotel.
a fellow party goer said she obviously was the worse for wear.".
well i'm spewing over this and here are my questions then....... if prince is a jw what the hell is he doing organising a large function without the elders approval?.

Going door to door to recruit members doesn't work
by JH inwhen you look at all the hours they do going door to door world wide and then you look at how many hours preaching it takes to bring just 1 person to their organization, it's not efficient.. my mom goes to a baptist church now, and i was surprised to know that 500 go to that meeting on sundays and they don't go door to door to go get these people.. there might be 80 witnesses at my hall and going door to door doesn't make much of a difference.
maybe it's even counter productive since people don't like being pested at home..

Well, the next to last meeting I ever went to, they were saying that they were so broke they could not even make their KH payment. So I guess the donations aren't so good. My ex who was in charge of the $$ never donated anything. How many of you ever put money in the box? When I had a paycheck, I would faithfully put in my 10% and the elders actually commented on it like I had two heads or something. Course, not having an education, my 10% was mighty small....

by Bonnie_Clyde ina friend of ours called to tell us that there was a 15-minute talk on baptism this week.
does anyone know if this was scheduled or if it was a special needs talk?
the congregation has been pushing this person towards baptism for years.

Aww - the remembrance of Service Meetings. I almost forgot them. Boring.... Until you hit "local needs" and they began describing evil sex practices and marijuana.

Two Classes?
by VanillaMocha73 inso i am going through the bible from a christian perspective this time and then going back to the reasoning book to figure out how on earth the jws ever came up with the stuff they did.
it is not like i am a n00bi3 - i was raised jw, pioneered, went to pio school, studied diligently for years, zealous, etc.. .
where do they come up with the two classes - one going to heaven and one not?

Hellrider: Exactly. And also, since the earth is supposed to go back to Garden of Eden conditions - did God have a "king and priest" class ruling over Adam and Eve? Wasn't God their King?

Unbaptized:
The Bible to me clearly states that we (Christians) are ALL chosen:
"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light." - 1 Peter 2:9 (NIV)
It says nothing about being a ruling race here, or that we are going to be somehow superior. Rather, that we are chosen to declare the praises of God. That speaks volumes to me. Stepping away from the 2 class mentality of a ruling vs. ruled, we are all under God's rulership and He chose us to bring praise to Him, to belong to Him.
The Israelite people did have a priestly class as ordained by God, to picture Jesus. God did not start out giving them an earthly king - they chose that for themselves. This does not match Christian's position today. We have no need to carry on with a priestly class - Jesus took that barrier away by his death. -

Bible verses that seem contradictory.....................
by JH inafter telling us that only jehovah was god, and he was our only heavenly father, this verse below really bugged me when i first saw it.. isaiah 9:5. for there has been a child born to us, there has been a son given to us; and the princely rule will come to be upon his shoulder.
and his name will be called wonderful counselor, mighty god, eternal father, prince of peace..

VanillaMocha73
Well, it does not seem so contradictory when you consider that God and Jesus are one and the same. Or you can go with the WT reasoning that Mighty God and Almighty mean two different things, etc...

So I am going through the Bible from a Christian perspective this time and then going back to the Reasoning book to figure out how on earth the JWs ever came up with the stuff they did. It is not like I am a n00bi3 - I was raised JW, pioneered, went to Pio School, studied diligently for years, zealous, etc.
Where do they come up with the two classes - one going to heaven and one not? Here are the lines of reasoning I can find:- David did not go to heaven - Acts something. Except that the scripture is not even talking about David's destiny. It seems to have been taken completely out of context.
- John the Baptizer was a great man, but not great in kingdom of heaven. Therefore, he must not be in heaven. However, that scripture seems to be way convoluted to me.
- The scripture about two flocks - little flock and other sheep
- The scripture that the great crowd are before the lamb and not on mount zion, therefore they must not be in same place.
Those are the only lines of reasoning I could find. And I must say they do not make much sense. Am I just dense? Let me say that the Bible is in a whole new light now that I feel the New Testament applies to me. The old way of believing that the Greek Scriptures only applied to the anointed and that I was not saved until the 144,000 applied Christ's sacrifice for me made the Bible and God seem distant. -

Invitro fertilization and Jehovah's Witnesses
by MsMcDucket ini remember hearing a talk about invitro infertilization being viewed as adultery.
did the dubs change their stance?.
what does the bible say?the bible, of course, makes no direct comments on modern-day assisted reproductive procedures.
-
VanillaMocha73
No invitro unless it is your own egg / sperm - no vasectomy and no tube tying. And don't have kids.
*** g72 7/8 p. 30 Watching the World ***Another, even more important reason for thinking twice about the operation is the clear indication in the Bible that God does not approve of the mutilation of reproductive powers.
*** g04 9/22 p. 10 The Choices, the Issues ***Are there any restrictions as to how one’s reproductive powers may be used? God’s view can be found at Leviticus 18:20, which says: “You must not give your emission as semen to the wife of your associate to become unclean by it.” The underlying principle in that Scriptural decree is this: A man’s semen should not be used to inseminate anyone other than his wife, and a woman should not bear a child for someone other than her own husband. In other words, the reproductive powers are not to be used for someone other than one’s marriage mate. True Christians, therefore, avoid surrogate motherhood as well as any procedures that involve the use of donated sperm, eggs, or embryos.
So, I guess, no sex, right? -

Please answer this question from my brother
by *jeremiah* inhi everyone, my bro just sent me this email.
can you answer his question?
"hey, i was looking through the jan. 1st 2007 watchtower because i saw on one of those forum sites a post about how the jan 1st watchtower was very poorly written and drew away some jws.

From what I can remember, this is not new. For as long as I can recall, I was told the apostles in heaven were watching us go door to door. From what I know now, they probably are and are shaking their heads in disgust at the deception the JWs are spreading.
*** it-2 p. 786 Resurrection ***
Time of the heavenly resurrection. The heavenly resurrection of Christ’s joint heirs begins after Jesus Christ returns in heavenly glory, to give first attention to his spiritual brothers.
*** w65 4/15 p. 241 par. 22 The Coming Banquet for All the Peoples ***
In fact, the Bible’s own time schedule connects up with the dates of world history and marks the year 1914 as the date for the birth of God’s promised kingdom in the heavens. By Bible time-schedule measurements the “times of the Gentiles,” or “the appointed times of the nations,” ended in autumn of that year, and the things that Jesus Christ predicted nineteen centuries ago began being fulfilled in their foretold order. (Luke 21:5-24, AV, NW; Dan. 4:1-32; 12:1-4) So we are the ones who are living in the favored time when death must begin to be swallowed up, this miracle beginning first with the faithful dead followers of Jesus Christ who were promised a share with him in his heavenly kingdom. Revelation 20:4-6 calls theirs the “first resurrection.” As it is a resurrection to life with Jesus Christ in the heavenly kingdom, it is a resurrection invisible to our eyes.—1 Cor. 15:50.
*** w82 4/1 p. 22 The Kingdom and the Resurrection Hope ***
Time of the “First Resurrection”
8 The Scriptures link this “first resurrection” with Christ’s “presence [Greek, parousia].” (1 Corinthians 15:23) The apostle Paul writes: “The Lord himself will descend from heaven with a commanding call, with an archangel’s voice and with God’s trumpet, and those who are dead in union with Christ [starting from the first century and up to Christ’s coming to the spiritual temple in 1918] will rise first.” Paul then goes on to say that the anointed Christians “who survive to the presence [parousia] of the Lord,” and who therefore die during the parousia, will be immediately resurrected and “caught away in clouds to meet the Lord in the air.” (1 Thessalonians 4:14-17) They do not have to “sleep” in the grave, awaiting the resurrection. At death they are “changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye.”—1 Corinthians 15:51, 52, Revised Standard Version.
9 Events in fulfillment of Bible prophecies indicate that Christ’s presence, or parousia, began in the momentous year 1914. (Matthew 24:3, 7-14) Then “the kingdom of the world did become the kingdom of our Lord [Jehovah] and of his Christ.” After this world-shaking event “the appointed time for the dead to be judged” came. This judging and the rewarding of those worthy began with those sharing in the “first resurrection” from Christ’s coming to the temple onward. (Revelation 11:15-18) Those anointed Christians who die faithful after the setting up of God’s kingdom are called “happy.” Why so? Because theirs is an instantaneous resurrection, allowing them immediately to take up their new duties with Christ Jesus in heaven.—Revelation 14:13.
10 The resurrection of the entire number of 144,000 anointed Christians called to reign with Christ in heaven is appropriately called the “first resurrection.” This is so because it precedes in time the resurrection to life on earth of mankind in general, the 144,000 becoming “firstfruits to God and to the Lamb.” (Revelation 14:1, 4; James 1:18) This puts them in a position of importance, since no other humans can “be made perfect apart from” these 144,000 priests, kings and judges. (Hebrews 11:40b; Revelation 22:1, 2) Furthermore, it is superior to any earthly resurrection, the 144,000 being raised “in the likeness of his Christ’s resurrection” to incorruptible, immortal life as spirit sons of God.—Romans 6:5. -

77 year old won't serve jail time for molestation charges
by VanillaMocha73 inhttp://www.570news.com/news/local/article.jsp?content=20070106_091307_5656.
a 77 year old man has been put on probation for 2 years for molesting a young girl while he was spreading religious word.. claude martin was a well respected jehovah's witness who was going door to door and inappropriately touched a 10 year old girl at a kitchener home in 2000 or 2001.. he was acquitted after a five-day trial of a second count involving a girl who was about the same age during an alleged incident in the late 1980s.. it wasn't included as evidence, but the court was also told about a statement martin made to police in 2003. he claimed to have had a problem with sexual fantasied involving young girls.. he gave the statement while police were investigating an allegation that martin exposed himself to a 12-year-old girl delivering newspapers.
he was not charged in that incident.. the probation term includes an order to get counselling.

Being stripped of his "rights" as elder is enough punishment? Oh boy... They stripped my ex at one point because he had a prison warrant against him for income tax evasion and several of my family members pushed hard enough that the congregation had to do something about it. He was pioneering instead of working to support his young family. Sure, it made him sad, but was that punishment enough? It did not make him decide to support us. The only "help" that worked was when we were in a congregation of apostates that cared enough to actually encourage him, help him work on a resume, show him how happy a real family could be, and helped him find a job. This stripping of privileges is not as effective as actually taking the time to offer real help. (Yes, that congregation just happened to be populated with apostates and still is. Oh, wait, I mean people that actually care.) LOL
