Well, when I lived in some bad apartments, I got fliers in my mailbox with address and pictures of registered sex offenders in my complex. (Talk about scary - I got three in one day). Having gone to two KHs with sex offenders, why not post their information on the bulletin board? I mean, I am going to get their picture in my mailbox, or I am going to see it at the post office (the case with one "brother" I was forced to go in field service with). What would be wrong with posting this at the KH too?

My first missed one as well, in 30+ years. It did not feel weird in the least. Last year I went with the appropriate shame - look down, hang head, be appropriately humble. I was on-call for work at the time and had to get up a couple time with my pager (on vibrate) - got all kinds of evil looks. You'd think they would be happy I was there!!! After all - between working 60-80 hours a week...... I have actually hated Memorial for years now - ever since my mom announced her anointing - I was young enough to still need her as a child and old enough to understand that now God was taking her away from me to heaven, where I was not allowed to go - Paradise would be without her. And the JWs told me my dad was going to die at the big A, so I was left with ..... nobody. As a child, that is devastating to think of (even though they are both still alive and well and I am all grown up). And then I got married and my husband mentions that he thinks he is anointed - now God has taken away the rest of my family. I began hating God. So good to know that that was all bullshit..... or worse. I still hate the God that would do such things, but I know that He is not the true God.

The chronicles of Narnia and Harry Potter
by uuus2b1 inlast year, i bought a few movies for my 16 year old niece when i went on vacation, among them was the movie "the chronicles of narnia (the lion, the witch and the wardrobe).
a few days later my brother called and said that he would like if i came by to pick up the movie as they would not allow their daughter to watch that movie.
(my brother is an elder) when i went to his house the movie was left virtually the same place that i had left it.

My mother would not allow Lion, Witch and Wardrobe either - because of the word Witch in the title. Funny her surprise when she learned that it was a Christian book.

Question for JWS and EXJWS
by Fisherman in1 do you now reject all of the wts teachings and doctrines?
2 what doctrines do you still believe in?
3 what doctrines have you stopped believing in?

1 Do you now reject all of the wts teachings and doctrines?
I reject the WTS completely as an apostate organization.
2 What doctrines do you still believe in?
*** rs p. 199 par. 2 Jehovah’s Witnesses ***
(1) Bible: Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God, and instead of adhering to a creed based on human tradition, they hold to the Bible as the standard for all their beliefs. - I can still believe this - just not the JW demon-inspired Bible.
(7) Death: They believe that the dead are conscious of absolutely nothing; that they are experiencing neither pain nor pleasure in some spirit realm; that they do not exist except in God’s memory, so hope for their future life lies in a resurrection from the dead. - except with a little difference in the time of the resurrection - why can't it be just after death?
3 What doctrines have you stopped believing in?
*** rs p. 199 par. 3 Jehovah’s Witnesses ***
(2) God: They worship Jehovah as the only true God and freely speak to others about him and his loving purposes toward mankind. Anyone who publicly witnesses about Jehovah is usually identified as belonging to the one group—Jehovah’s Witnesses. - I worship God as the only true God - as expressed in the trinity. He is in no way identified with Jehovah's Witnesses.
*** rs p. 199 par. 4 Jehovah’s Witnesses ***
(3) Jesus Christ: They believe, not that Jesus Christ is part of a Trinity, but that, as the Bible says, he is the Son of God, the first of God’s creations; that he had a prehuman existence and that his life was transferred from heaven to the womb of a virgin, Mary; that his perfect human life laid down in sacrifice makes possible salvation to eternal life for those who exercise faith; that Christ is actively ruling as King, with God-given authority over all the earth since 1914. - Jesus is God, he was not created, he did exist in the heavens, he was born of a virgin and did give His life for me - this salvation is NOT dependent on works, but on acceptance - difficulty with the WT concept of "exercising" faith. Jesus is my King, but not as the WT views it.
*** rs p. 200 par. 1 Jehovah’s Witnesses ***
(5) Heavenly life: They believe that 144,000 spirit-anointed Christians will share with Christ in his heavenly Kingdom, ruling as kings with him. They do not believe that heaven is the reward for everyone who is good. - the two classes is not found in the Bible.
(8) Last days: They believe that we are living now, since 1914, in the last days of this wicked system of things; that some who saw the events of 1914 will also see the complete destruction of the present wicked world; that lovers of righteousness will survive into a cleansed earth. - Nope - 1914 not in the Bible, no valid basis and the people who saw the events of 1914 are, let's see - DEAD.....
4 What doctrines are you not sure about?
*** rs p. 199 par. 5 Jehovah’s Witnesses ***
(4) God’s Kingdom: They believe that God’s Kingdom is the only hope for mankind; that it is a real government; that it will soon destroy the present wicked system of things, including all human governments, and that it will produce a new system in which righteousness will prevail. - It is a little different from what the WT portrays - not as much a government as human governments that we are familiar with - it is more complete than that.
(6) The earth: They believe that God’s original purpose for the earth will be fulfilled; that the earth will be completely populated by worshipers of Jehovah and that these will be able to enjoy eternal life in human perfection; that even the dead will be raised to an opportunity to share in these blessings. - not sure.
(9) Separate from the world: They earnestly endeavor to be no part of the world, as Jesus said would be true of his followers. They show genuine Christian love for their neighbors, but they do not share in the politics or the wars of any nation. They provide for the material needs of their families but shun the world’s avid pursuit of material things and personal fame and its excessive indulgence in pleasure. - We have to do our part in making the world better - where to draw the line I'm not sure. I don't think we need to stay away from politics, we do need to support our families, no need to be greedy.
(10) Apply Bible counsel: They believe that it is important to apply the counsel of God’s Word in everyday life now—at home, in school, in business, in their congregation. Regardless of a person’s past way of life, he may become one of Jehovah’s Witnesses if he abandons practices condemned by God’s Word and applies its godly counsel. But if anyone thereafter makes a practice of adultery, fornication, homosexuality, drug abuse, drunkenness, lying, or stealing, he will be disfellowshipped from the organization. - I do not agree with disfellowipping - not in the Bible - but I do feel it is good to apply Bible standards to my life. -

"What parent would allow their 14 year old to be alone with a convicted sex offender, converted or not?"
Well, we had a sex offender going out in service regularly when I was pioneering. I had my young son, as well as the children I babysat. This brother would lead out in service (because there were not any other males). He would assign himself to my car group regularly. I asked the elders to please not allow this, please do something. Of course, you get in trouble if you go against the brothers car group arrangements or door to door assignments. Did they do something? No, except make sure that THEIR children were not in the car groups. Me - I just got into trouble for "gossiping". So there is your mindset as to why a child would be in a car with a sex offender..... I did not allow my son to be alone with him, but I had to fight tooth and nail for that. -

Can a brother buy his way eldership ?
by KAYTEE incan brothers buy their way to stardom (eldership) .
have you known anyone who got to being an elder because of his financial status or by having a broker working for him.. i knew a brother who had been out of the borg for many years, who on his return purchased a carpet for the kingdom hall.. this must have prompted the elders to see his spiritual qualities, because soon after he progressed up the so called ladder, to arrive at a "glorious elder".. have you come across this sort of thing?.

You want an even better one? You can buy your way into the GB too. Well, speculation admittedly, but one is there whose son is (or was) a HUGE contributor - he pays mom and dads way everywhere - a GB member who does not need the WT to pay his way.

*** g86 4/8 p. 9 Facing the Facts: Tobacco Today ***
Christians find the moral and Scriptural objections to tobacco use to be of even more weight than medical or health warnings. Tobacco use originated with animism, spiritism, and worship of man-made gods—all condemned in the Bible as degrading practices that lead one away from the Creator. (See box, “The Sacred Leaf That Caught On,” page 4.) (Romans 1:23-25) Smoking is unclean, dangerous, and contrary to Christian standards. (2 Corinthians 7:1) More importantly, addictiveness brings the habit within the scope of “druggery”—a condemnatory term used in the Bible for spiritually damaging and superstitious practices.—See the Reference Bible footnote on Revelation 21:8; 22:15.
*** g86 4/8 p. 4 The Sacred Leaf That Caught On ***
The Sacred Leaf That Caught OnFor three centuries tobacco was medicine to Europeans. Doctors prescribed the herb for ailments from halitosis to corns. It all started in 1492 when Columbus and his crew, the first Europeans to see tobacco, found West Indies islanders smoking crude cigars in tribal ceremonies.
Long before Columbus, nearly all the early peoples of the Americas held tobacco sacred. Originally, smoking was a right and function of witch doctors and priests. They used its narcotic effect to induce visions during solemn tribal rites. “Tobacco was intimately associated with their gods,” reports historian W. F. Axton, “not only in their religious observances but also in their curative or healing procedures, all of which were connected in one way or another with their religion.” But if tobacco’s medicinal use is what first caught the eye of Spanish and Portuguese explorers, its use for pleasure soon followed.
“I’ll have another cigarette/And curse Sir Walter Raleigh,” sang Beatles John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Sir Walter, called the “best-known propagandist among Englishmen for the recreative pipe,” grew tobacco on his estate in Ireland. He did his best to popularize the habit among fashionable society. Ahead of his time, he brings to mind the tobacco industrialist and advertising man of the ‘cigarette century.’
But it was the Thirty Years’ War in Europe, not Sir Walter’s charm, that made the 17th century the “Great Age of the Pipe,” says Jerome E. Brooks. “Chiefly through the agency of war,” he maintains, “smoking spread across the Continent” and into Asia and Africa. A similar development was to kick off the era of the cigarette.
