Welcome!
As for Mom, I don't have any pearls of wisdom for you. Just keep living your live with personal integrity and come here and vent when it gets too crazy.
first of all, i've been reading this forum for many months and have found it such a nice place!
a little history - my husband and i were both raised as jws, and both left about 11 years ago.
we were initially inactive for quite a few years, but we still believed all the bs.

i have 2 alias's.
i only use this one anymore but i started out with 2.. makes me wonder how many members jwd really has?.
does anyone else have multiple alias's?.
It's hard to calculate because many are irregular or inactive...
this morning i was doing my typical sunday morning routine, which consists of pretty much nothing, and went to the kitchen for a coffee.
i noticed that one of my cats was sitting next to the basement door which was an odd place for the cat to be sitting but i didn't give it a second thought.
a bit later i went to refill my coffee cup and the cat was in the same place.
The demons must have let it in...
i'd enjoy reading your comments about prayer.. the wt club says it is inappropriate to pray for those who are disfellowshipped...and we should obey them lest we be shunned and not be part of the organization jehovah is using.. however the bible tells me we should even pray for our enemies!
jesus set the example by even praying for those who were torturing him and murdering him.
"father forgive them!
I really appreciate it when people on here mention these kind of little details. These are the things we all just took for granted as "truth" and all put together these details make up the fabric of the religion's "body of truth".
When I was totally "in" and active I may not have dwelt much on these details, but looking at them objectively now, they make me feel more and more certain that JW's have a destructive belief system.
I remember when I first heard this particular issue and feeling sort of sad for the DF'd ones. However, I followed the rule and did not pray for DF'd ones I knew. I allowed them to control me to the point of sublimating my natural instincts of concern for others. How did I not put it all together for so long?
Sounds like a new take on :"What goes around comes around"....
the prodigal son's father met him out on the road as he approached, put a fine robe around his shoulders and had rings made for him.
they had a big party as he announced "my son has come home!!
" everone knew he had blown his inheritance on liquor and prostitutes.. wouldn't the wt "arrangement" have mandated a comittee meeting to have been held to determine if they felt he was truly repentant and most probably he would have to had a period of time that he was shunned so they could tell the congregation "that situation had been dealt with".
Good point!
mine- popular mechanics, this old house and maybe a sunset.
Readers Digest, Better Homes and Gardens, Southern Living...
I love when people say "loo" almost as much and when they say "whilst"!
as a programmer i am exposed to high technology all the time and ironically this has given me an odd aversion to it!
i like gadgets and gizmos like anyone else; however i demand it be discrete.
when i'm out-n-about i want to be connected, but at the same time i don't want anyone to be able to see it.. for years i have avoided the bluetooth headsets that appear to be gaining in popularity, however im still not quite ready to get one because of the obvious geek factor and the simple fact that many people who wear them appear to be making the "look at me, i've fancy" statement.
It cracks me up when I see little old ladies walking around Wallmart talking to themselves and I realize they are wearing a Bluetooth.
in other words, are you spontaneous and decide things abruptly without thinking too far ahead.. .
I'm very decisive. I make a decision and never look back. I'm seldom if ever disappointed.
do you dream a lot?.
do you have pleasant dreams?.
do you have recurring dreams?.
restrangled and tall penguin: I think we must share a brain. Your dreams sound earily similar to mine. I dream a lot and remember them pretty well. I actually look forward to going to sleep and dreaming. It's like going to the movies.
I have several recurring dreams. Not exactly the same each time but the same theme or content. 1- I'm driving naked and my legs don't work or I confuse the brake for the accelerator. 2- I'm in school and forgot to study for a test, or can't find a classroom, or realize I haven't been to a class in so long I no longer know what's going on. 3- I'm in a demonized house. 4- my all time favorite- I actually hope I dream this one- Flying. I am being chased by someone or I'm in an unconfortable situation and suddenly I lift up and I'm above it all. I guess I'm invisible too because no one seems to notice. In similar dreams I sort of walk on air or glide along.
When I was little I had a recurring dream that I've never been able to remember. When I would wake up, I would know I had dreamt "the dream" and felt weird but never knew what the dream was. I did remember the feeling of the dream, though, it was a sense of impending doom. Like something catastrophic had occured that was my fault and I did not have the power to fix. I think I had this dream as early as 3 years old. When I was 9 I told my mom about it and she said it was demonic and went on a witch hunt burning and throwing away all sorts of things (starting with my dolls).
Maybe it's an NF thing...
