Maybe Sparky will get his eyes opened when he sees how things are really done, they don't care what is right, or who they hurt, its all about the corporation maintaining control.

Why I Stayed Married to my "Apostate" Husband for 30 Years. Help for those whose marriages are in trouble now that you have left The Lie.
by rubadubdub ini have to say i am surprised and am quite saddened to hear how many jdub marriages fall apart when one partner becomes an "unbelieving mate" or even an "apostate.
" i thought i might post my thoughts on my thinking process during the time my hubby, bethelyellowdollarbag, in my jdub thinking moved along the path from an "unbelieving mate" to an "apostate" over the course of 30 years before i finally woke up to ttatt.
"-1 corinthians 10:13.. *** it-1 p. 126 apostasy ***.

When I first started reading experiences on JWN I was shocked at how many people said their spouse left them because they became apostate. It goes directly against what the religion teaches. I guess I was stupid for staying with my disfellowshipped husband, I thought I had no choice, now I find out all I had to do was claim spiritual endangerment. It wouldnt even have been a lie, since staying with him drove me away from the religion.

I have been trying to follow the Candace Conti case as well as Steven Unthank's work in Australia. If memory serves me (and please forgive me if this question has been asked and answered or if I have my facts wrong), the original judgement was for 28 million dollars. That judgement was reduced to $17 million dollars by agreement between the parties. How is it that the WTB$ can get a settlement and reduction of the damages awarded and still have the legal recourse of an appeal. It just doesn't make sense to me. How can they have it both ways? Can someone explain the judicial process here?
Thanks, Rubbity
It's apples and oranges. The punitive damage amount was reduced because the court felt the award was excessive. Candace could then either accept the lower amount or she could retry the punitive damage part of the trial. She choose to accept the lower amount, which ended the trial. The Watchtower then filed an appeal to have the entire judgement overturned. At least that is how I understand it, maybe one of our legal experts could explain it better.

Transexuals, transgenders and intersex people
by yalbmert99 inwhat it the point of view of the watcthower on transexuals, transgenders and intersex people?
an article was written about it by the watchtower bible and tract society, but was never published.
however, several jehovahs witnesses in position of authority are aware of it.

I read the novel Intersex, a fictional account of an intersex person, genetically male, but due to androgen insensitivity did not develop male genetalia in utero. A careless doctor did not notice the problem, and the child was raised as a girl. Things were fine until the child hit puberty, when the he started producing testosterone. I can't imagine a JW elder being able to understand or deal with something like this. Would they force the person to dress and act like a girl, since he didnt have a penis? Or would they let him switch to the sex he felt he was? I would imagine that marriage would not be allowed, much less a sex life.

The Organization Does Not Want You To Think!
by minimus inthey try to keep you on a hamster's wheel and never give you a break.. if you are young and single, you should be a regular pioneer.. if you are gifted and intelligent you should not even think of college, just preach the beliefs of the watchtower.. if you want to get married and then have kids, that's typically discouraged since we are so deep in this time of the end.. if you are married and have a family, you are expected to act superhuman and perform feats as a way of life like preparing for and attending all meetings, getting out in field service every weekend, caring for the children, feeding them, getting them ready for theocratic activities, and making sure you show appreciation for the spiritual food by being early for the meetings and commenting as you are expected to.
.
then there's family worship night which the pharisees invented in order to study more of the organization's doctrines.. meanwhile if you or your family are under the weather or feeling ill, you are guilted into going to the kh, participating and looking joyful.. is there any wonder why "apostates" are so content in life, now??.

The organization constantly preaches and warns of the danger of "independent thinking" and not obeying Jehovah, by which of course they mean the GB, because they presume to speak for him. They teach you that you cannot trust your self to do what is right, you must learn from them. Everything they do is designed to make you completely dependent on them, afraid to leave the safety of the ONLY true religion.
I had been inactive for years, but still attending meetings, and still mentally enslaved to the organization, when one day I sat back and thought about my life and my decision to stay in a very bad marriage, a decision I made because of "The Truth". I had what my (current) husband calls a BGO (brilliant glimpse of the obvious). Why would God (if he even exists) want me to be stuck in a bad marriage? Either he is cruel, in which case I don't want to serve him, or he doesn't care one way or another, in which case why am I torturing myself? That was the tipping point for me, the moment I broke free of the mind control tactics of the WTBTS.

RESISTANCE IS FUTILE!!!!!!
by Julia Orwell inthat's how i feel when i see these crazy new wt study articles and the inane reasoning contained therein, and the indoctrination machines of meetings run by all those little hardened human cogs and the unending stream of propaganda we're pitched up against.
.. you could spend all your time working through those wt articles (see cedar's post on the latest 'new light') and refuting the stupidity, and yet most witnesses aren't even concerned with changes to the fds or 144 000 because like all of humanity they're too busy trying to scratch a living as it is.
such airy doctrine changes don't have any effect on their day to day lives and is thus irrelevant.

I hear Jesus, but they don't want me going near him. I hear YHWH, but he's monopolised by some men in NYC. I hear my God and my Lord Jesus in the Bible, the human spirit and the beautiful things around me, and I want to follow their voice, the voice that tells me to be the best human being I can be, and to love and help others with my own unique talents. Not wasting my time in dead works that leave me empty, but in exploring the things that make us human!
Very well stated Julia. I understand why you have a hard time reading the magazines or going to the KH. You have only recently woken up to TTAT, so you are still coming to terms with the realization that you were fooled by a bunch of idiots into thinking they spoke for God. Naturally, this is still painful and upsetting. Eventually things will get better, as they say, time heals all wounds. You may find that you can then read the literature in a more detached way, understanding that it is simply the opinion of a few men pretending to be something they are not. Then again you may never pick up a magazine again, because it means nothing to you. The only time I read anything published by the Watchtower is when parts of it are quoted here. It's just part of my past, I like to keep loose tabs on the latest happenings in the Watchtower world, but the only emotion I feel is happiness that I am no longer a part of it.

Identity Crisis: Who Am I?
by Emery inafter learning ttatt, i have completely abandoned christian fundamentalism.
thus, dropping many superstitions, prejudices, and biases associated with legalistic interpretations of the bible.
although i am agnostic, i still adhere to many christian principles, not because i think they are divine truths, but because i've benefited from the wisdom.. since i no longer believe in the inspiration of the bible, i repeatedly find myself falling into questions of conscience, ones which i've never faced before... .

I think many of us struggle with these issues. For myself, I was older when I left the organization, so I felt no need to go out and sample all the worldly things I didn't do as one of Jehovah's Witness. I had never taken drugs, smoked cigarettes, or had promiscuous sex, and I wasn't going to start doing those things. I guess at the end of the day I still considered myself Christian, as that was how I was raised, so I continued to live my life by those principles Jesus said to "do unto others as you would have them do unto you". This golden rules is all that is needed to determine the right thing to do in any given situation. You do not need to be Christian to understand this basic principle.
I also still believe in the fruitages the spirit, love, Joy, Peace, kindness goodness faith, mildness and self control. I try to apply them in my life.
On the other hand, I saw no reason to not celebrate holidays. It doesn't violate the golden rule, and if done using the fruitages of the spirit, it can be a very good thing.
It seems to me the WTBTS is so obsessed with laws and control they have completely lost the meaning of Christ's sacrifice, and are no better than the Pharisees. Its all so simple, really.

I got married in 1972, one of the many who rushed into marriage, fearing that you couldn't marry after Armageddon. I was not quite 18 and incredibly naive. The marriage was a mistake from the get go, but I was stuck. I remember a lot of talk about the end being near, but as it got closer around 73 or 74, that seem to die down a bit, at least in the magazines I started to think that maybe the end wasn't quite so close. I got pregnant that year, so I was more concerned with my own situation. I remember when the Watchtower came out blaming us all for "going ahead", I actually fell for it, even though I had heard in the magazines and from the platform that 75 was it. I cannot explain it, but I guess memories are short, and being under cult mind control, we just believed what we were told. It actually never occurred to me that this false prediction was a sign I was in the wrong religion.

I hate to say it, but you need to grow a backbone. There are always people who will have expectations of you, it is up to you to manage them. If you freely gave things to her and didn't complain when they were lost or damaged, you helped create this situation. The next time she brings it up just say, "Oh gosh Heather, I don't know how much I will be passing along, there are some things I just can't part with for sentimental reasons, I am sure you understand." Smile, look like you expect here to understand. Then give her a few token items when the time comes.
There are a lot of takers in this world, the sooner you figure out how to deal with it, the better. The reality is, they don't appreciate your generosity, they just keep taking.
