I had a long slow drift, I still thought it was the truth, but I just couldn't do all that was required, and I got tired of feeling guilty all the time. I lived an isolated lonely, life in an unhappy marriage (mate was DF). I had nothing in common with anyone at the KH. The final kicker was reconnecting with a guy I met in High School and realizing that the 28 years I spent married to an A--H--- was a complete waste. I had stayed because the Watchtower brainwashing that it was always better to stay in a marriage. I realized, well, no it wasn't. I left, and married the love of my life. It still took a number of years before I realized that "The Truth" was all complete BS.

Did you leave for more than ONE major reason ?
by JH ini hear people say they left the org.
for this or that reason.. in your case, was there more than one reason why you left ?.

Have You Divorced And/Or Remarried- What Did You Learn From It ?
by flipper inin seeing a lot of posters threads , i feel i see many people who have been divorced at one time , and either have remarried or have stayed single .
i totally understand those who choose to stay single, as i was single for 6 years before i got married again !
as experts say, next to death it's one of the hardest experiences you'll go through !

I was married, unhappily, for 28 years. Divorced and married the love of my life. We met in High School but I wouldn't go out with him because he wasn't a JW. We reconnected (Classmates.com), have been happily married for 7 years. He is my best friend. I feel I have it all. He's not perfect, nor am I, but we work hard at keeping the romance alive.

Congratulations on coming as far as you have, it must have been a hard road. You have developed great critical thinking skills. Your decision to study medicine is a great choice. You will help more people in one day as a doctor than you did in all your time as a JW. You may think you are old to be single and *gasp* a virgin. I'm 53 and have kids your age. You are still young and have your whole life ahead of you. You will make new friends as time goes on and you become more open to relationships with non-JW's. I married young, but didn't meet the love of my life until I was 45 and I've never been happier. You have developed some great skills and you will do well in life. Good luck!

High Def TV ..This is bad
by Connaughty ini recently attended our special assembly day and the visiting speaker put down hdtv because he didn't think we needed it.
he said that we've been watching tv for many years now without it.
i don't know what bethel is going to do when the tv networks switch to that system.

It was my understanding that you can still use your old TVs unless you use an antenna, in which case you can get a converter. I'm not planning to rush out and buy one, but when we replace our current one, I will probably upgrade. Technology changes and improves, I think it's a good thing. It would be cheaper not to have TV at all, and that is always an option, no one is forcing anyone to buy one.

How Many People Did You Help Come Into The "Truth"?
by minimus inmy major claim to fame was that i studied with a family that i found from house to house and all 6 got baptized.
within a year's time, the mom and daughter got baptized and then within the next year and a half all the others followed suit.
2 of the kids became bethelites and the other daughter became an elder's wife.

Good luck. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do! As JW's we thought there was one way to do things and now we know we all have to find our own path. Trust your insticts and do what works for you.

It makes me think of a movie I watched (my son and his wife picked it out). It's called Idiocracy. The premise of the movie is an average IQ guy is accidently frozen and then revived many centruies from now. The world had become so dumbed down (because stupid people were procreating, while thinking people were afraid to have kids), that he is now the smartest person in the country. It's not something I ever would have rented (very crude) but it did make me think about these issues. It seems like critical thinking skills are just missing is a lot of people I see. So many things on TV/Movies/Music are just mindless drivel. People seem content to fill their bodies with junk food and their minds with junk entertainment. I'm not an intellectual by any means, didn't go to college (for reasons only you on JWD would understand), but I just don't see what people see in most entertainment today.

California Wildfires = The end?
by RollerDave ini just got a call from my jw mom asking if i was watching the news.. i'm like, "no, what's up?".
i'm imagining something must really be up, like we invaded some more countries or mushroom clouds over american cities, or maybe somebody famous did something horrible in public, or something.. she tells me 'half of california is burning.'.
i'm like "yeah, it's been doing that for a while now.".

I used to live in California. In 1973 There was a small localized earthquake. My then hubbie dragged me out of bed and was standing in the doorway praying because he thought it was the "Big A". Everyone went out in FS that day! It was the mindset of the time as everyone thought the end was coming in 1975. Although I stayed in for another 25 years, I never again thought that anything was a sign of the end. Really, how could you live your life like that.

I went to Memorial about 2 years after I left. I was visiting my Mom and as she way dying I did it to please her. I actually enjoyed it as there was some nostalgia value, it was my way of saying goodbye to that life. I went back to that KH for her funeral 6 months later. I would never go again, there is nothing there for me, I've changed so much it would have no meaning now.
