MEGSMOMMA! I'm so, so sorry these things all happened to you...
Brown recluse bites are nasty, PLEASE, please do take care... especially on the head! And that crap your mother spewed was just inexcusable.
Feel better... I hope you have had it looked at? Those bites get worse before they get better...

"Thats what you get for leaving Jehovah"
by megsmomma inthat is what my mom told me when i got bit by a brown recluse spider.. i was in ohio, visiting my daughter and my mom was there trying to convert me back.
she even said if i go back, we would get custody of my daughter..... well....i drove myself there from ks and somehow had gotten bitten right before i left.
it was right between my eyes, and my head started swelling up on the way there.

~Share a magical memory from your childhood thread~
by FlyingHighNow inwe all had those moments in childhood that were pure magic.
moments that were full of wonder that brought us great joy.
sometimes those memories are connected with music or certain fragrances.

Question about sin!
by Carmel ini admit i haven't kept up with "christianspeak" or jw changing doctrins, so bare with me.
in another thread (probably several) one or more "christians" use the phrase "jesus paid for your sins" or "jesus covers up for the sinner".
what the heck does that mean?
-
BabaYaga
Actually, I heard that the literal meaning of sin from the Greek is to "fall short of the mark", in other words, to miss the target. In that way, we sin all the time. That is all that it means. Surely a loving creator would not punish his beloved creations for all eternity if they missed a bulls-eye on occasion?
I do not believe in "sin" as the commonly held definition of it holds. I think that sentences containing the word sound stilted and bizarre... archaic, perhaps. -

How many are like me?
by JH ini still believe in god.
still believe his name is jehovah or something like it.. still believe that jesus is his son, and he isn't god almighty.. don't believe in the trinity.
i believe in the resurrection.

Quite frankly, JH, I believe your beliefs will evolve slowly and painlessly, until you believe very little or nothing of what the WTBTS teaches. I hate to say that because it sounds grossly condescending, (I don't mean for it to be,) but I believe it to be true.
Were you raised a JW? How many years have you been out? -

WHAT WOULD YOU THINK IF SOMEONE POST.......?
by juni indid you kill anyone?
rape anyone?...
" gary said "no, i was caught cheating on my wife with"... i looked at the jw and said, "look man, we all fall short of the glory of god, right?"..

Dear Juni...
I can see that you are actually in pain over this, and for that, I am truly sorry. I want to quote to you something a dear friend of mine told me years ago:
"It is impossible for a third party to destroy a healthy marriage."
I think that is incredibly profound. Bratty kids, overbearing mother-in-laws, secretaries in mini-skirts, NONE of these can break up a healthy marriage. Sometimes, marriages have even survived cheating, if both hearts are totally committed to making things right.
I am sorry you are hurting. But the original post you refer to was not about that. It was about the JW shunning practice.
We don't know the story of the individual mentioned in the original thread, nor of the person with which he shared his crime... sin... indiscretion, or whatever you want to call it. There is a different set of rules for every situation... and THAT is just one reason why we rejoice that we don't allow a "body of elders" to judge us anymore.
I hope I have not made things worse... you asked for our opinions. -

JW's shunning baptized wife and family because of unbaptized husband
by MinisterAmos ini saw a related thread around here but can't locate it so i'm posting this personal observation on what i would call a "high-profile" couple.
rich and bright i met them at the kh.
it starts about three years ago when a family moved to our area; a couple and their child.
