It takes time, Dear Wanderer, lots of time. Years. And you know what? That's okay. There is nothing at all wrong with that. Allow yourself to take the time you need to realize what YOU believe.
People don't really care whether you celebrate these things or not... but believe it or not, they respect your stand more if it comes from your own heart and mind and that it's not some mandate from a quirky religion.
I know that the transition is incredibly hard, but do try to enjoy the process, and celebrate each step into your OWN belief system.
You are intelligent with a marvelous heart, my Dear. Your beliefs, your ethics, and your morals will blow the Dubs' out of the water.
(Incidentally, I was just thinking last eve about how long my transition has been. My first sort-of sitting in on an Xmas celebration, years later deciding that I really should take the step and register to vote... having a big fight with my boyfriend at the time about me not going to a Halloween party with him and my "reasons" why... well. It's been a long road. Sometimes I stepped on rocks, but I look around at how beautiful the landscape is now.)
Truly,
Baba.

Dang. I would love to say that I am farther along, after all these years I have been out! Unfortunately, for almost all of those years, I was firmly entrenched in DENIAL.
Finding these boards, reading about the UN involvement, seeing family members studying to join this madness... I have to admit it... I'm really angry now.

It's true, you do seem confused now... are you referring to stillajw's avatar? Notice the sign-on also says "was an elder". Methinks the avatar is not representative of the genitalia of Stilla's person.

Silencing former Jehovah's Witnesses

being shutdown by the watchtower bible and tract.

Howdy, Wanderer! Hooray! ;)
I don't think they CAN "protect the flock" from the truth about the (T)ruth! And I honestly think they are running scared. They are scared much in the same way as any other failing corporation, but theirs goes deeper... because whether they have control issues or not, I do believe that the great majority of the elders and the governing body are SINCERE, and still honestly believe and are still as bamboozled about it being the only way as WE WERE when we were in, so they not only see a failing marketing plan (and marketing share, for that matter,) they see countless souls being lost, and they don't know what to do to fix it.
In a word? They are DESPERATE. And persons with a religious fervor who are frightened and desperate are dangerous individuals.
Seems to me I recall a site owner being forced to take something down and he complied, merely posting links which would take readers to the same information on different sites. (Danny Hazard, was that you? Sorry I can't remember the specifics...) This was a great solution, because the society's legal action was met and hushed, but the point was made that THE INFORMATION IS OUT THERE... AND THEY CAN'T STOP IT. They cannot possibly extend the energy it would take to stop the information like wildfire now. Stomp on a bit of the fire and celebrate... but there are sparks and healthy fires of REAL truth all around them.

Rock The Vote: my secret is discovered
by under_believer ina while back, i registered to vote.
i even voted in our primary (nonpartisan issues only at this point--i'm still finding my "center.
at the time, my wife asked me if all this voting stuff we were getting all of a sudden was some new thing the state was doing--maybe you just get enrolled to vote when your drivers license renews, or something.

Some reminders:
Living well really IS the best revenge... be HAPPY and SUCCESSFUL and STRONG
It is THEIR LOSS, Dammit.
Here is something that you can NOT rely upon, but... people who shunned me in MY life no longer do that. I have my loved ones back...and I did not change my stance. It can happen. In the meantime, it's so MARVELOUS CHOOSING who the unconditional loved ones are in your life.
And please, above all else, remember... YOU ROCK. You are the STRONG, REASONING, and THINKING one. You'll get through this... and it WILL get easier... much, much easier.
Hang in there, Baby.
Hugs

My favorite costumes of mine in the past were:
Jambi from Pee-Wee's playhouse (complete with closing magic box doors and table on my shoulders, someone didn't know I wasn't a table and got very embarrassed sitting her paper plate of food on me.)
I was also very fond of my "concrete airbrushed yard madonna" costume with a latex sacred heart sporting safety orange spray painted rays. I have to admit that costume was much more effective with the cigar.
I'm just going to have to wing something from the thrift store this year, all my stuff is in storage.
Hey Lawrence, do you really do Memorial or is that a bit of a JOKE???
